ONCE UPON A TIME IN KENTUCKY A BASIL HAYDEN HISTORY

Crafted in 1992 by Booker Noe as part of the Small Batch collection, Basil Hayden introduced a more subtle side of bourbon compared to its counterparts.

This style of bourbon was inspired by 1792 whiskey pioneer Meredith Basil Hayden, Sr., a rye farmer from Maryland who moved to Kentucky and began distilling. He chose to distill his bourbon with a higher percentage of rye, and Booker set out to create a similar high-rye mash bill that would offer the same refined, approachable taste profile.

Today, this bourbon stands as a tribute to Meredith Basil Hayden, Sr.’s high-rye mash bill ingenuity, as well as to Booker Noe, a true innovator who sought to welcome new drinkers into whiskey.

AROMA: Charred oak and sweet notes of vanilla & caramel with hints of dried fruit

Hoosier History
Indiana became the 19th state of the United States on December 11, 1816. Just like other states in the Midwest, Indiana became a site for whiskey production due to its agricultural grain capacity, and natural limestone filtered water. The climate, with hot summers and cold winters, was imperative to the aging process, where the fluctuations help the spirit interact with the charred white oak barrels, imparting the exclusive flavor, color, and character. This natural advantage contributed to the development of distilling in the region. At this time distilling was a small-scale, farm-based activity before the rise of industrial, commercial distilling in the late 1800s.

Our 1816 Indiana Rye Whiskey continues to honor these traditions today. Aged in the fluctuating Indiana climate in charred white oak barrels. Hand-bottled by the small team at our craft distillery after it has been proofed to 101.6, producing the bold rye spice and floral notes with a hint of nutmeg, and cinnamon in the background. Truly history in a bottle!

Sandeman Madeira Rainwater is made in the traditional manner on the Atlantic island of Madeira, The rich soil and volcanic subsoil give this wine a unique character which is enhanced by the winemaking and ageing in «estufas». It is light in body but full in flavour, well balanced and a good accompaniment to many classic dishes such as soups and patés. It is also an essential ingredient in classic cuisine.

Medium light amber colour with pronounced golden highlights. Clean nutty aromas, very agreeable light complexity. Medium dry in flavour, nutty and slightly complex, with a good clean finish. Brilliant wine - a good quality young Madeira in evolution.

There are two mayor agave growing regions for tequila, the highlands (Los Altos) and the tequila valley at 2,300 meters above sea level. For years producers and consumers have been debating which agave produces the best tequila? One thing is for certain, that the rich red soil from the highlands is very porous and the rain water filters right-through, leaving these agaves extremely stress for survival. Highland agave yields the highest grades of sugar content. There is a popular claim that the highlands rich soil produces a sweeter, more citrus, and fruitier-tasting profile. PUNTAGAVE Tequila is produced with highlands grown agave in the town of Jesus Maria Jalisco.

Yellow Gentiane
The powerful bitterness of Suze comes from the yellow gentian roots that grow for over 20 years in the mountains of France before being torn out by hand.

Nose: intense and harmonious, with fruity aromas and vegetal notes

Palate: bitterness and sweetness followed by a fresh taste of gentian roots, a fruity taste of orange and candied fruits.

Detailed Description

This is the 10th expression in the limited edition Grandeur range from The GlenDronach. It's a 27 year old single malt that was matured in a combination of ex-Pedro Ximnez and Oloroso sherry puncheons and butts, which have been described as some of the distillery's oldest and most unique sherry casks. It was bottled at a robust 50.1% ABV, with a limited release of just 2,293 numbered bottles.

Nose: Black truffle, plum compote and rich treacle initially. Dried apricots, oily walnuts and brandied cherries develop underneath.

Palate: Creamy hazelnut, Seville orange marmalade and stewed apples, with clove and coffee liqueur.

Finish: Antique leather and plenty of sweet earthy tones.

Maker Notes 

Our process is unique in that we use 94% Danko Rye grown on the shores of Conesus Lake. This big, bold, spicy grain captures the true spirit of the Empire State. Our temperature controlled fermentation and proprietary pot, column, pot, column distillation method all contribute to our unique flavor profile, all before being set to age in our custom charred barrels.
The Empire Rye requirement to use local grains and barrel down at a lower proof, in combination with our harsh NY winters and hot humid summers, all contribute to the unique flavor of this product. GARRYANA EDITION 6

In Edition 6, Garry Oak comingles with both Brandy and Sherry casks. The Brandy gives a bright filter to the savory spice of Garry Oak. The Pedro Ximénez, its classic darker fruits with muted sweetness. Both add something distinct while leaving enough space for the Garry Oak to shine.
