General Gorostieta Blanco Tequila is a true expression of craftsmanship and quality, made from 100% blue agave. This release takes us to Kilranelagh Estate near Baltinglass, County Wicklow. Situated amid rolling hills and picturesque features, the native Irish woodland on the estate has been managed carefully and in tune with nature by one family, the Westerholt for many years. When their great Irish oak had reached the end of their life cycle and were ready to be felled so the new oak could grow in their place, they knew they wanted their legacy to live on—and Midleton Very Rare Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman knew that he had the perfect whiskey which would bring new life to these relics of a time gone by through finishing in this Irish oak.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Forest notes of fresh pine accompanied by floral honey and ground pepper at first, while sweet and tropical fruits can be detected amongst the herbal green tea and freshly mown hay. The use of the native Irish oak lends itself to creating distinctive aromas of smoked almonds with sweet vanilla and cinnamon that are complimented by the pot still savoury spices.

Taste: Robust and lively at first with notes of dried chilli flakes and red bell peppers which quickly soften, allowing notes of candied orange and crisp red apple to shine through. The oak continues to deliver sweet vanilla and cinnamon spice throughout, while the pot still spices add a hearty and full-bodied nature to this complex and intricate whiskey.

Finish: Wonderfully long finish which sees the pot still spices and oak linger, almost effortlessly, for an age.

Glen Scotia Double Cask whisky is a superb introduction to the Glen Scotia range for whisky explorers. With tastes of toffee and fudge, it’s a perfect demonstration that at Glen Scotia, age is no indication of character. Matured in first fill bourbon barrels before being finished for 12 months in PX sherry casks, this expression provides an intriguing harmony or rich and spicy fruit flavours, as well as distinctly Campbeltown notes.

Produced in Northern France near the Belgium border, Wignac Ciders are 100% organic ciders made from table apples, cider apples and juice from wine grapes from Burgundy! The ciders have no added sugar, no added sulfites, and are naturally gluten-free.

The Wignac estate was established in 2016, when Edouard and Eliane de Merode, a brother and sister, started producing Wignac cider in the Ardennes. Many Americans remember the Ardennes as the region where major battles of WWI and WWII took place.  Edouard and Eliane want to show that the Ardennes can also be known for something beautiful too - its cider.
Located near the famous terroir of the Champagne region, Edouard and Eliane seek to reinvent and rejuvenate the image of cider and the region while maintaining the traditional making of cider on the Wignac estate. Both Edouard and Eliane grew up in the countryside surrounded by the nature, so was only natural to have their estate certified organic. And before their orchards were planted, the estate already boasted organic Angus cows.

Wignac was the name of Edouard and Eliane’s great-great grandmother, la Marquise de Wignac, from whom Edouard and Eliane inherited the Domaine du Château de Guignicourt sur Vence (Ardennes – France) The château was built in 1710 by the Wignacourt family and it has been in the family ever since – despite being seized during the French Revolution.  It was eventually given back to the family by Napolean I in the early 1800’s!

Wignac ciders are unique and unlike traditional French ciders. ‘Le Lièvre” is a mix of cider apples and table apples. “Le Goupil” is a rosé cider made of cider and table apples to which juice from wine grapes from Burgundy has been added. 

Le Lievre offers aromas and flavors of a fresh apple, picked directly from the tree. Le Goupil offers delicate aromas and flavors of apples, with a hint of sweetness from the juice from wine grapes.

During the late 19th century, an overwhelming number of distilleries throughout the United States were still not aging their whiskey. As a result, some retailers would add juices and syrups to sweeten the whiskey, while others would add acid and tobacco to give their whiskey its signature, amber hue. In 1870, George Garvin Brown a young pharmaceuticals salesman from Kentucky saw the need for a consistently high-quality whiskey that would remain unadulterated after distillation. After saving $5,500, Brown and his brother opened the doors to J.T.S. Brown & Bro. Distillery and began distilling bourbon. Unlike other distilleries at the time, Brown aged his bourbon, which was named Old Forester, in oak casks and bottled it in a sealed glass bottle to ensure authenticity and quality. Since its introduction in 1870, Old Forester has been on the market continuously, even during Prohibition, when it continued to be sold for medicinal purposes. It is the only bourbon continuously distilled and marketed by the founding family before, during and after Prohibition. This historic recipe was acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I, Old Forester Rye features a mash bill of 65% Rye, 20% Malted Barley, and 15% Corn. This high proportion of barley yields a natural fermentation process, and a unique floral character, balancing the sharp, brisk spice of the rye grain. At 100 proof, Old Forester Rye plays beautifully in a cocktail but also stands up boldly on its own. Pick up your bottle today!

Maker Notes

SCHLEPZIG: WHERE WHISKEY DREAMS TOOK FLIGHT

Road trips often hold the promise of adventure, and in the waning months of 2015, our journey led us to a most unexpected destination - the quaint main street of Schlepzig, situated approximately 60 kilometers south of Berlin. Our initial aim was simple: to acquire a solitary barrel of whisky from Brandenburg's most ancient distillery.

As we found ourselves standing in the charming courtyard of this distillery, listening intently to the owner's words, the contours of our lives were about to change forever. His announcement that he sought a successor ignited a spark within each of us. This, we realized, was the adventure we had been yearning for all along. And so, in 2017, following a multitude of structural transformations, the installation of mash tuns, fermenters, and even our very own mill, we set ablaze Germany's inaugural rye whisky still, and thus, the STORK HOUSE Rye Whiskey was born.

An evolution of The Dalmore house style, this 18 year old expression takes on bolder notes becoming a robust and formidable whisky. The Dalmore 18 showcases the result of extended maturation. Matured initially for 14 years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, the spirit is then transferred to 30 year old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts for a further four years. These sherry butts from the world renowned sherry house Gonzalez Byass are selected exclusively for The Dalmore.

Glenmorangie, a distinguished Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, boasts a remarkable heritage dating back to 1738. Nestled in Scotland's Morangie Farm, it evolved into a renowned distillery under William Matheson's ownership, equipped with two second-hand stills. Drawing inspiration from the pure waters of Tarlogie Spring, aged for nearly a century underground, Glenmorangie crafts its whisky using meticulously malted barley, twice distilled in copper-pot stills. These unique stills, towering at nearly seventeen feet, impart a lighter and refined character to the whisky.

Glenmorangie's innovation shines through its pioneering extra-maturation process, transitioning spirits from ex-bourbon casks to ex-wine casks, resulting in layers of complexity and depth. The exceptional Pioneering Collection includes acclaimed single malts: 10 Year Original, LaSanta 12 Year, Quinta Ruban 12 Year, and Nectar Dor 12 Year cask finishes.

The 10 Year Original matures in "designer casks" from Missouri, balancing sweetness and complexity to perfection. LaSanta 12 Year gains elegance through extra-maturation in Oloroso and PX Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, embodying Gaelic warmth and passion. Quinta Ruban 12 Year, aged in American white oak and ruby port pipes, presents an enticing harmony of sweet and dry flavors.

Completing the collection, Nectar Dor 12 Year showcases the exquisite fusion of French casks and Scotch whisky, finishing in hand-selected wine barriques from Sauternes, France. With a plethora of prestigious awards, Glenmorangie exemplifies excellence in each bottle, inviting connoisseurs to indulge in its opulent flavors.

Pikesville Rye traces its Maryland roots all the way back to the Civil War from 1861-1865, the Civil War drew thousands of outsiders to Maryland, outsiders who would grow accustomed to the state's particular style of rye whiskey. After the war's end, these people returned to their homes with a lingering thirst for Maryland rye, and a few pioneering businessmen with the help of a recently-improved railway infrastructure began to produce and sell this style of whiskey all across the country. One such producer was the L. Winand and Brothers Distillery, which was founded in Scott's Level (just northwest of Baltimore), Maryland in 1895. The distillery began producing its flagship product Pikesville Rye, named after the adjacent town shortly thereafter, choosing the name because Scott's Level sounded too much like Scotch. After the passage of Prohibition, L. Winand and Brothers Distillery was forced to close, and though subsequent owners Pikesville continued to distill the whisky in Maryland until 1972, the brand was ultimately sold to Heaven Hill in 1982, making it the last-standing Maryland rye whiskey. Produced today at the famous Bernheim Distillery in Kentucky, Pikeville has maintained its popular status in Baltimore after all these years. Crafted by Heaven Hills Co-Master Distiller Denny Potter, Pikesville Straight Rye Whiskey is made from a mash of rye, corn and barley, and evokes the spicy character of traditional Maryland rye whiskies. To set it apart from other ryes, I selected barrels at a minimum of six years old from high storage and bottled it at a proof that allows the most character from the barrel to come through without overpowering the spicy grain notes, says Potter. As a result, Pikesville Straight Rye Whiskey has a pale copper color and an aroma of dark cocoa and burnt oak. The palate is filled with layers of honey, clover and white chocolate, and leads to a finish accented by vanilla bean, butterscotch candy, maple syrup and caramel. Pikesville Straight Rye Whisky won a Double Gold at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and earned 95 points at the 2015 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

Why the neck tie?

Sitting prominently on the slopes of Volcán de Tequila is Sandovales, a historic hacienda built in 1821 that has housed prominent Mexican families for generations. As Agaveros Unidos de Amatitán acquired land for the Rancho Miravalle farm, Sandovales became a centerpiece for the family, and over time, the fertile landscape that laid claim to the only visible structure in the area became the subject of multiple legends and considerable local lore.

These days, Azuñia honors its rich history in the region by paying homage to one such legend. Ever notice how our signature Añejo tequila comes with a leather bracelet and silver coin? Legend has it, long ago, a failed robbery attempt left valuable coins scattered throughout the fertile fields where Azuñia’s agave grows today, and these little gifts are a nod to one of many stories that help make this land such a special place.
