Heads Up, You Connoisseurs! Let’s Learn a little about the history of Maestro Dobel Tequila
Maestro Dobel Tequila is one of the best Mexican tequila brands of the 21st century. Founded in 2008, Maestro Dobel Tequila is owned by the Beckmann Family (the same family who also owns the Jose Cuervo tequila brand).

If you’re a liquor connoisseur deeply intertwined with tequila’s history and craftsmanship, you would definitely know of Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta. He is the 11th-generation leader of the world-famous Jose Cuervo Tequilas.

Do you know why we’re mentioning his name here?

Well, it’s because he is the one behind the creation of the Maestro Dobel Tequila brand.

Deep Look Inside the Contribution of the Beckmann Family & Juan Domingo Beckmann
The world isn’t ready to listen to the Beckmann Family’s significant impact on the world of spirits, particularly with their involvement in the development and popularity of Mexican liquors. This family’s journey in the spirits industry began in the early 20th century. Still, after so many decades, the influence of the Beckmann family hasn’t faded much. In fact, the Beckmann family is reaching new heights of success and popularity. Today, the Beckmann Legorreta Family controls all of the Becle (the corporate medium that includes the world’s largest tequila brand as well as various mezcal, whiskey, vodka, and gin brands). According to one Bloomberg article, the total sales of this company in 2022 were 45.7 billion pesos (2.3 billion in US Dollars).

And guess what? 86% of the total stakes are owned by the Beckmann Family alone.

Well, if you look into 2024, the power of the Beckmann Family is successfully transitioning to Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta (who also serves as the present CEO of Jose Cuervo). He has a net worth of more than 1 billion, making him the second-richest member of the Beckmann family.

The first one is – Juan Francisco Beckman Vidal, who has a net worth of $7 Billion as of the 2021 Forbes Year Report.

What Made Juan Domingo Beckmann to Create Maestro Dobel Tequila?
Let’s turn our heads from the Beckmann Family and concentrate on the history of Maestro Dobel Tequila as a brand.

In the early 2000s, Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta successfully ran the Jose Cuervo brand. At that time (and still today), Jose Cuervo was one of the biggest Mexican tequila brands. But after experimenting with different blends and aging processes, Juan Domingo wanted to create something extraordinary. As a result, he collaborated with master distillers like Marco Anguiano and Luis Yerenas to create the world’s first Cristalino Tequila, which he describes as ‘One-of-a-Kind.’

And that’s how Maestro Dobel Tequila was created. After a few weeks, the brand officially entered the market with a grand launch in 2008.

Where Does Mastro Dobel Tequila Was Created (And Still Being Is)?
‘La Rojena’ Jose Cuervo in Jalisco, Mexico, is the distillery where the iconic tequila brand was distilled back in 2008. The current production of this brand’s tequila is also being executed at ‘La Rojena.’

Take a Closer Look at the Production of Mastro Dobel Tequilas by Reading this Process.

1st Step of the Production Process: Agave Sourcing
Maestro Dobel uses the single-estate agave—which comes from the volcanic lowlands of the western state of Jalisco in Mexico—to produce these unique tequilas. After sourcing, the agave is harvested between early March and early July. During the last days of harvesting, the agave should reach maturity between 8 and 10 years old.

2nd Step of the Production Process: Cooking of Piñas
Professionals cook piñas (pineapples) using direct steam heat for 36 hours in traditional masonry ovens. After cooking, the piñas are left sealed over for another 12 hours without any steam.

3rd Step of the Production Process: Fermentation
After cooking agave, there comes a milling process. This milling process is done with four mills of juice. Altogether, this is slowly fermented for around 72 hours. After fermenting the agave, the water is added to the pre-distilled tequila so that, after maturation, it acts reminiscent of natural springs originating from the volcano.

4th Step of the Production Process: Distillation & Maturation
The fermented ‘agave wine’ is then double-distilled in high-quality copper alembic stills. Next comes the most important step of the tequila-making process: maturation.

The master distillers closely oversee maturation. Each batch type is produced using different vintages of the same tequila.
Every expression of Maestro Dobel is maturated for different periods of time, like Maestro Dobel 50, and Cristalino is maturated for a minimum of 3 years.
