Bruichladdich is an award-winning distillery employing generations of distilling knowledge and the principle of minimal intervention. Bruichladdich Black Art 4.1 23 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was distilled in 1990 and originally aged in American oak casks that were previously used to mature bourbon. After its initial beautyrest, however, McEwan conjured up an entirely unique whisky the Black Art was finished in a variety of assorted wine casks (the exact method that McEwan used to create the Black Art remains a closely guarded secret) before being bottled at cask strength. As a result, the whisky has an antique copper color and a unique flavor profile. It has an aroma of cherry, apricot, orange, brown sugar and figs. Initially, the velvety palate continues with fruit-forward notes structured by oak, honey, tobacco, and cinnamon. The balance of oak, malt, and fruit settle into a gently floral finish.
