Each year, only the most outstanding small lots of Zinfandel are isolated from the many produced at Michael David to bottle under Lust. Lust is comprised of the best Zinfandel that Lodi has to offer; cherry picked right off the vine to create one sexy, showy and seductive wine. This limited production vintage possesses all the qualities expected from a luxury Zinfandel...Smooth to the core and leaves nothing to be desired.

TASTING NOTES

Seductive as its name, 2020 Lust Zinfandel is a dark ruby red beauty exuding seductive aromas of raspberry, violet, honey, almond and vanilla. Lush, sultry offerings of plum, caramel, clove and cacao are rounded out with delicate spice notes and an alluring, dark chocolate finish.

Known for taking the road less traveled, Michael David Winery has always stood apart from the crowd. Whether it be their outlandish brands and packaging or their quirky personalities, Michael and David are definitely on a stage of their own and this wine showcases just that. The fruit for this wine comes from the original “super freak” himself, Michael Phillips’ Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard located only a medicine balls toss away from the winery.

Building off the wild success of Freakshow Cab - the first wine in the Freakshow lineup - we searched near and far to find the next main attraction. Known for taking the road less traveled, we decided an exceptional offering that displays the undeniable brut of Lodi Syrah was just the ticket. Freakshow Red is a mash-up of man meets wild...Syrah’s untamed and mysterious allure is refined and polished with the addition of Petite Sirah. Prepare your eyes and taste buds for a FREAK like no other!

TASTING NOTES
The man, the myth, the untamed and refined – our Freakshow Red Wine unveils the wild, unruly blend staring our very own man meets beast. Composed of Syrah, Petite Sirah and Souzao, the 2021 act unveils aromas of juicy raspberry, black cherry, butterscotch and toasted baguette. Full bodied with polished, velvety tannins, flavors of dried plum, crème brulee and toasted oak are carried through a long finish that will have you reaching for more.

The first Lodi Cabernet Franc wine ever produced by Michael David Winery, and one of the few produced from Lodi. This varietal originated from the Bordeaux and Loire Valley regions of France and has been grown with success in many other countries. The grapes for this wine come from a 9 acre vineyard located on the west side of Lodi, no more than a stone’s throw away from the winery. Ready to drink now or could be set down for a few years.

TASTING NOTES

Deeply concentrated dark ruby in color with tobacco, strawberry jam and cherry aromas standing out. Full-bodied with dark fruit and spice, blackberry, clove, walnut and pepper are layered within hints of sweet vanilla. A lasting finish is framed with additional tobacco and spice notes intermingled into dark fruit flavors.

Over the top and shattering to the veins, these wines possess major concentration and daring flavor. The original is the Earthquake Zin which came from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake. These dark and voluminous wines will definitely leave your senses quivering.

This rich, burly Zinfandel offers over the top concentration and intensity that will leave your taste buds trembling! Opening with luscious red fruit and brown sugar aromas, this full-bodied Zin overflows with strawberry jam, molasses and vanilla bean flavors carried though by a fruit laced finish that lingers until the next quake.
