Octomore 12.3 is single vintage, single field, single malt. Raised in Church Field on Octomore Farm by friend and farmer James Brown, this Islay grown barley has been trickle distilled through our tall narrow necked stills just two miles from where it was grown. This terroir-driven spirit would take two separate journeys before being combined; 75% was filled into ex-American whiskey casks, while the remaining 25% spent five years maturing in genuine Pedro Ximenez Solera casks from Jerez bodega Fernando de Castilla. This Islay barley spirit has breathed slowly and delicately for five aged years, its salty citrus marine note resulting from the locale of where the barley was grown and our warehouses proximity to the sea. The Pedro Ximenez casks contribute sweet dried fruit notes which highlight the rich dry peat smoke of Octomore.

Aged for 5 years in ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished for a final year in French oak, the striking copper tone is unmistakable and precedes an elegant and complex flavor profile. A generous bouquet of various dried fruits and jams transition into a rich honey, spice, and almond palate.

Tasting Notes

Nose: A rich array of various fruity aromas are ever­present on the nose including candied orange zest, figs, dates, prunes, and quince paste. Further exploration will reveal gingerbread notes seducing you with its elegance.

Palate: The strong dried and confit aromas of the nose are intensified on the palate and accompanied by the sweet note of tonka bean. This rhum is characterized by extreme depth and volume throughout and the finish is long and enveloping.

Tasting Notes

Color: Sunset gold.

Nose: Elegant and energetic, with notes of candied apricot, quince, white flowers, cinnamon and vanilla.

Palate: Delicate notes of white fruits (peach and apricot) and a subtle woodiness. It’s a supple and well-balanced Cognac, with a long and pleasant finish.

For over a decade, Jacob Lustig managed the tequila and mezcal portfolio of the largest liquor distributor in the United States. Lustig has had a lifetime of experience in the tequila industry: as a child, his family moved back and forth between San Francisco and Oaxaca, Mexico. Later, as a student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Lustig studied the history of the Mexican liquor business. "My passion for nuanced and unique agave spirits began in southern Mexico during the early 1990s," says Jacob, "when I renovated a centuries-old Oaxacan mezcal distillery after concluding an intensive study of regional mezcal distillation and its myriad production configurables." As the manager of a tequila and mezcal portfolio, "I was able to work closely with over forty of Jalisco's finest tequila distilleries." Seleccin ArteNOM Tequila is the first and only company authorized by the Tequila Regulatory Council to bottle tequilas from different distilleries and release them under a single brand name. "A prevailing regulation in the tequila industry specifically prohibits the bottling of any brand in multiple locations, in order to assure aficionados consistent flavor and quality in their preferred mark," says Jacob, but after years of working with the Tequila Regulatory Council, Jacob was granted permission. Gratefully, the Seleccin ArteNOM Tequilas are now being applauded in both Mexico and the United States. ArteNOM Seleccion de 1414 Tequila Reposado is produced in Arandas, Jalisco (elevation: 5,400 feet) by master distiller Jos Manuel Vivanco at the Destileria El Ranchito. Vivanco is a fourth generation distiller his great, great grandfather began cultivating agave in the highlands of Jalisco just after the Mexican Revolution. Vivanco ferments his estate-grown agave using a natural indigenous-yeast that is found in and around his distillery. After twice-distilling the agave, Vivanco ages the tequila for four months in white American oak casks that were previously used to age bourbon. Seleccion de 1414 Tequila Reposado has notes of mature agave and banana bread, followed by a long, smooth finish with notes of honey, citrus and vanilla. Seleccin ArteNOM Tequila is the only project of its kind.

We work closely with our partner producers and set them up for success.  No haggling.  No exclusivity contracts.  We guide producers through the complicated steps to export in their own names for the first time and cover necessary expenses including local attorneys, accountants, license fees, and more.  We absorb our producers’ marketing and supply chain costs as our own.  We believe in autonomy for producers, be it hiring their own workers or using their own bottling facility. We only step in if they want our help. We connect with our partner producers to share knowledge and help each other in production. Revenue from every Erstwhile bottle sold creates jobs in our partner producers’ and vendors’ local communities in Mexico.  Our producers hire their own team of local men and women, on their own terms. Cucharillo Sotol (2021 Limited Edition)

This beautiful Cucharillo, distilled from wild Sotol plants harvested in Oaxaca's southern highlands, is the most aromatic and botanical from Erstwhile Mezcal's 2021 Limited Releases.  Oregano, lemon balm, and other wild mountain herbs that grow naturally in the same hills make a delightful bouquet in the mouth feel and flavor profile.  "Cucharillo" is the local name for the Sotol plant in this part of southern Oaxaca, Mexico.

The tradition of keeping an infinity bottle is well known to whiskey collectors and aficionados around the world. In 2018, we introduced the Infinite Barrel Project, to honor the infinity bottle tradition in our own way, and we became the first brand to produce and sell an infinity barrel in the commercial market.

THE INTENT OF THIS PROJECT 

The tradition of keeping an infinity bottle is well known – take the last ounces of each whisk(e)y bottle as you finish it and pour them into a bottle you’ve set aside.

Until 2018, the infinity bottle was largely something that people put together at home, but was done more for fun than flavor. The point of difference for the Barrell Craft Spirits “infinity barrel” was to select barrels for their flavor contribution and complexity and blend them in a larger single, or "Infinite" vessel. At each bottling, we remove a portion of that whiskey and replace it with other barrels that will complement the remaining blend. We then repeat the process - bottling a portion and adding newly selected whiskeys each time. To date, we’ve done 19 bottlings of the Infinite Barrel Project. 

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM THE SOLERA PROCESS?

Our Infinite Barrel Project contains fractions of many whiskey barrels in a single blend, and we produce a unique blend for every bottling. A solera is designed to create a consistent product every time. At its most basic, the solera process starts with a single barrel or group of barrels of a specific age. A fraction of the first group of barrels is put it in the second group of barrels, a fraction of that second group is put in the third group and so on. The solera process is designed and symmetrical. We think of our Infinite Barrel Project as a solera in reverse. It's unpredictable and asymmetrical, and constantly evolving.

Apocalypto Reposado Tequila is aged for a minimum of six months in oak barrels, allowing it to develop a complex and refined flavor profile. During this aging process, the tequila absorbs the characteristics of the oak, resulting in subtle notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice.

The tequila is made from 100% blue Weber agave, harvested at peak ripeness to ensure the highest quality. The agave is cooked, fermented, and distilled using traditional methods, preserving the authenticity and depth of flavor.

Using the highest quality malted barley and fresh spring water fed from the Blue Ridge Mountains, our spirit was developed to leverage Virginia’s climate, allowing the broad temperature shifts to add depth to our whisky. Hand-hammered copper pot stills crafted in Scotland are used to distill our spirit using time-honored techniques. What makes us a distinctly American whisky, and defines our signature taste, is our unique combination of casks aged in Virginia’s climate. Aging in exceptional casks adds intensity and complexity to the spirit.

Sherry casks

The distillery uses Sherry cask types, including Fino, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez. These casks give the whisky notes of tart cherry, golden raisin, fig, caramelized plum, brown sugar and spice.

Aged a minimum of four years, this 100% malted barley whisky is matured in former Spanish Sherry casks.

This whisky showcases its natural color and is not chill filtered.

Grander Panama Rum is an independent bottler founded by Dan DeHart. DeHart is from Kentucky, meaning he was raised in the way of the bourbon. Once he discovered the wonderful world of great-quality rum that could be drunk neat, everything changed. After he met the people at Las Cabras Distillery in Panama, the groundwork was set for the launch of Grander Panama Rum in 2015. The bottler now deals in bringing authentic Panama rum to the discerning drinker without the limitations and restrictions that come from larger rum producers and suppliers. The Las Cabras Distillery is located in Herrera, Panama, and led by Jose Fernandez Perez, who oversees the blending and barrel aging. The distillery grows their own sugar cane. A proprietary yeast strain and local water are used in production, along with ex-bourbon and some ex-sherry barrels are used for maturing, with others (ex-rye, ex-scotch) are used for finishing the rum. The distilling takes place in four independent columns of varying sizes. The rum is bottled without chill filtering and additional colors. The Barrel Series features limited-release rums that are finished in different casks. This expression has spent 8 months in American white oak barrels that used to hold Kentucky rye whiskey, an uncommon pairing. It's a blend of 65% 12-year-old- and 35% 15-year-old rum that is bottled at 100 proof sans chill-filtering, coloring, or sugar added. 

Adictivo Tequila is produced in El Arenal Jalisco, the gateway to the blue region of tequila. The agave landscape and ancient distilleries have marked indelibly to this region in its passage through time, forging a distinct identity and a style rooted traditional and current life fully. Tequila Adictivo Añejo is a Tequila 100% pure Blue Agave, with an intense golden amber color and a mixture of toasted aromas that offers an excellent flavor.

About the Brand

The Camarena brothers used to run the Santa Maria ranch from sunset to sunset. The only thing that could stop them was their parents call to come home for dinner.

Driven by the unbridled passion that lived in their hearts, one afternoon in the cold winters of 1976, they left the ranch without permission to ride their horses, taking them to the municipal lane of Arandas for a clandestine race of 100 rods, the young brothers looked at each other with the certainty that this day would remain engraved in their memories; with passion and enthusiasm, they set off on their horses in an unprecedented race, competing head to head….

A few meters from the end of the race, the unexpected happens, they see that the chain of the finish line is set and they know perfectly well that their end is near… Suddenly, the imposing mare «Paloma» runs to line up next to the horse «Pinto», and with the sum of their strength they manage to break the chain, saving the lives of the Camarena brothers. That moment was the motivation to follow a dream, Tequila Carrera.

In the late 1950s, the Medley Distillery began producing a bourbon named Ezra Brooks in Owensboro, Kentucky. The distillery, which was founded in 1901, traced its origins back to the birth of Kentucky bourbon; while Reverend Elijah Craig is usually credited with producing the first bourbon whiskey at his mill in Lebanon in 1789, the Medley family began distilling whiskey at the same time in the adjacent county in Kentucky. In fact, except during the thirteen years during which distillation was outlawed in the United States, a member of the Medley family has been operating a distillery continuously since 1812. Today, Ezra Brooks Straight Rye Whiskey continues to be produced in the heart of Kentucky. The bourbon is made from a mash of 95% rye and 5% malted barley which are milled and mashed before being fermented. Following distillation, the bourbon is aged for a 24 months in charred American oak casks.
