Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy Bourbon Cask Irish Whiskey

Midleton

750 ml | 45% ABV
Whiskey | Irish

Midleton, the brand name synonymous with the annual vintage release of Midleton Very Rare and with the limited releases of Midleton Single Pot Still Whiskeys, added its first permanent Single Pot Still Whiskey to its range in 2011.

Bearing the name of the celebrated second generation Midleton Master Distiller, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy represents a selection of pot still whiskeys which have been matured exclusively in American bourbon barrels with a subtle contribution from a pot still distillate which has matured in an unseasoned American barrel.

This pinnacle of the Single Pot Still range, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy, marked the first time since John Jameson that an Irish Distillers product had been named after a Master Distiller. Single Pot Still whiskey is unique to Ireland in general and to the Midleton Distillery, Co. Cork, in particular, and is regarded as the quintessential style of Irish whiskey. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills, Pot Still whiskeys are characterised by full, complex flavours and a wonderful, creamy mouthfeel.

As a tribute to the man who is inextricably linked to the Midleton distillery and who has more than anyone, shaped the renowned Midleton style, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy displays a distinctive Pot Still complexity yet is refined and poised on the finish.

With over 30 illustrious awards received to date, this is a whiskey that truly embodies its name. In 2016 it was named the Best Irish Blended Pot Still Whiskey at The Irish Whiskey Awards

Bowmore Aston Martin 21 Year Old Scotch Whisky

Bowmore

750 ml | 51.8% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

A limited-edition single malt created in collaboration between Ron Welsh, Master Blender and Marek Reichman Chief Creative Officer. Each one of them a master of their own art who shape and influence every product produced, be that a Bowmore single malt Scotch whisky or an Aston Martin car.

By bringing these two worlds and these two creators together, we call on their shared experience and skills to create a whisky which tells the story of the synergy between the brands and ultimately defines the partnership.

MASTERS' SELECTION 21-YEAR-OLD, EDITION ONE

This is a collaboration of perfect proportions, the optimal combination of skill, passion and precision. Taking each Masters’ own creativity and character; bringing together harmoniously to create a beautiful, yet powerful equilibrium.

For Aston Martin proportionality defines every precise detail of the design process; in a quest to achieve the Golden Ratio, this guides the creation of absolute beauty by ensuring a perfectly symmetrical relationship between each proportion.

For Bowmore, proportions define character and shape flavour combinations; from cask selection and age to blending. But for the first time, the adoption of the Golden Ratio has inspired the combination of components, each of which add their own unique flavours and layers of complexity to the final whisky.

The result is a single malt which thrills all the senses for optimal enjoyment. But much like an Aston Martin, delivers a very powerful and memorable finish.

TASTING NOTES

Color: MahoganyNose: Sweet and nutty with notes of Manuka honey and maple syrup, with praline and grilled hazelnuts; combine with rich aromas of freshly tanned leather.

Taste: Richly elegant sherry merges with raw Islay peat, whilst bitter dark chocolate unites with vanilla and coffee beans. A fruity flair is defined by Morello cherries and a touch of papaya.

Finish: Sweet, spicy and mouth warming, with notes of oak spices, chestnut cream and coconut lingering.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition Scotch Whisky

Cutty Sark

750 ml | 50% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

Built in 1869 with an iron frame and a wooden hull, the Cutty Sark is a British clipper ship that was designed to transport tea from from China to London. At the time of its construction, the tea trade was intensely competitive and substantial bonuses were paid to ships that arrived in London with the first tea of the year. As a result, the Cutty Sark was engineered to be one of the fastest ships in the world, logging a maximum speed of 17.5 knots. The ship's name was derived from the nickname of Nannie Dee, a witch in Robert Burns' poem Tam o'Shaner. Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky is produced by Edrington of Glasgow, whose main offices are fewer than 10 miles away from the birthplace of the clipper. Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition pays homage to Captain William McCoy, who smuggled Cutty Sark whisky into the United States during Prohibition. His reputation for dealing with unadulterated liquor (at the time, many bootleggers mixed their spirits with other liquids in order to increase yield) gave rise to the Cutty Sark being referred to as "The Real McCoy." Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition Scotch Whisky is crafted from a blend of the finest single malts and top-quality grain whiskies available in Scotland, including whiskies sourced from The Macallan and Highland Park. Once the whiskies were identified, they were married together in hand selected American oak casks and then brought to 100 proof before being bottled. As a result, the whisky has a golden honey color, along with an aroma of ripe citrus, orange zest and fragrant spices. The aroma gives way to notes of toffee, creamy vanilla, pepper and coffee beans on the palate, and leads to a finish accented by touches of oak spices and sweet fruit. "This blend is created with exact precision as Captain McCoy himself would approve to celebrate the 80th anniversary of such a significant era," says Kirsteen Campbell, the distillery's Master Blender. Bruichladdich Octomore Progressive Hebridean Edition 13.1 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bruichladdich

750 ml | 59.2% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

Octomore 13.1 is as youthful and dynamic as its super-heavily peated predecessors. Distilled patiently from the 2015 harvest of 100% Scottish Mainland barley, this single malt is malted to a stratospheric 137.3 PPM and matured in the highest quality American oak casks. All Octomore .1 editions are distilled from 100% Scottish barley. They are primarily aged only in ex-American oak, in varying percentages of either ex-bourbon or ex-Tennessee whiskey casks. Acting as the backbone of each new series, Octomore's .1 releases demonstrate the raw character of the clean Octomore spirit, balanced with the modest ex-American whiskey influence - and offer a necessary comparison from which the other expressions alternate. After five aged years in first fill ex-American oak casks, our Head Distiller has offered a unique twist in this 13.1, having gathered and recasked the spirit in 2021 into yet more fresh, first fill ex-American oak casks. This final injection of flavour, taken from the interaction between the spirit and the oak, offers additional flavours of dark toffee, coconut and vanilla. This single malt is a testament to the trust our head distiller, Adam Hannett, has in the quality of his ingredients. Without more than patience and an understanding of how the flavours will evolve, this single malt perfectly personifies the courage of Octomore as a concept.

TASTING NOTES

CHARACTER: Synonyms with the classic Octomore .1 style. Hidden peat smoke allows the floral, malty spirit and the sweet American oak to combine in perfect harmony, before dry, earthy smoke sweeps across the palate.

COLOUR: Golden Hebridean sands

NOSE: Initial impressions are of sweet nutty smoke, loaded with barley sugar and ripe fruit. Syrupy apricot and ripe pear along with malty vanilla notes of barley flour and Crème Brulee, honey and tablet. The American oak brings coconut, almonds and charred oak. The peat smoke is delicate but powerful and, along with the charred oak, brings out boot polish, leather and earthy notes.

PALATE: A viscous texture across the palate, the feeling is of densely smoked grain which comes through like smoked granola with honeyed fruit. A second sip brings the opportunity to decipher the complexity on the palate, with smoked apricot jam, barley flour, peat embers and burnt heather balanced with gooseberry citrus and sweet Turkish delight. Oak chips, sugared almonds and chocolate-limes with spicy aniseed comes toward the finish. A drop of water intensifies the smoke and brings out the minerality of the whisky.

FINISH: On the finish the sweetness fades and an earthy, mossy note remains on the palate wrapped in dry heathery peat smoke. Salty-citrus and floral notes of geranium and rose come through calmly to round off another wonderful expression of the Octomore paradox.

Milam and Greene Very Small Batch 1 Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Milam and Greene

750 ml | 54% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

Master blender Heather Greene harvested 75 bourbon barrels to create the inaugural batch of Very Small Batch Bourbon. These barrels are a combination of bourbon distilled by master distiller Marlene Holmes in Kentucky using the proprietary Milam & Greene mash bill and barrels of Tennessee bourbon. The barrel recipe for Batch 1 is 20% of the precious Kentucky barrels and 80% Tennessee barrels. The barrels are divided into smaller batches to marry in 1,000-gallon vatting tanks before finishing.

The Kentucky whiskey base is distilled by the Milam & Greene team using their signature mash bill of 70% corn, 22% malted rye, and 8% malted barley. The use of malted rye provides a rich texture and nuttiness that makes it approachable at a young age. For Batch 1, the barrels are aged in Kentucky and then Texas for just shy of 4 years. The Tennessee bourbon was distilled with a mash bill of 80% corn, 10% rye, and 10% malted barley. This batch is a reflection of the climate on whiskey from three different states: Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas.

Using very small batches as the heart of our new whiskey allows for greater control over the final product. It takes much more attention to detail to produce an elegant whiskey that showcases the esters that are produced during fermentation to bring out refined fruit, floral, and herbaceous notes. To perfect the precise wood flavor without overpowering these refined ester notes, Very Small Batch Bourbon is finished with French oak staves. French oak casks that once held both tawny port wine and then Milam & Greene’s award-winning rye whiskey are broken down, then “cooked” in the 100-degree Texan summer sun, and finally house-charred to a crisp on the outside only. These crispy-on-the-outside, rye-kissed on-the-inside staves are tied in bundles and then steeped in Very Small Batch Bourbon for about two weeks in the vatting tanks.

TASTING NOTES

Color: Tawny

Nose: It starts sweet and delicious, followed by some nuttiness, soft vanilla, and French toast aromas

Palate: Fruit-forward sweetness at the beginning, quickly evolving to notes of black tea with fresh baked biscuit flavors

Finish: Long and warm

Very Small Batch Bourbon is bottled at 108 proof / 54% ABV allowing the flavors to shine when sipped neat, and to further open up with a drop of still water. This elegant bourbon style is a high-end sipper, meant to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
