During the 17th century, Cornelius Van Brunt one of the founding fathers of Brooklyn farmed land alongside the banks of Gowanus Creek, while helping forge the eclectic society that became Brooklyn. In the 1800s, as the population of New York mushroomed and its waterways became vital hubs for maritime travel, the Brooklyn waterfront became home to some gin, rum, and whiskey distilleries. Prohibition forced the distillery to close, and it wasnt until the new 21st century that distillation resumed. Opened in 2012 Van Brunt Stillhouse honors the pioneering spirit of Cornelius Van Brunt, one of the founding fathers of the area. Founded by Daric Schlesselman who first began by producing the first Rum from Brooklyn since the Prohibition era. Soon after releasing the rum, the brand started producing other spirits such as Grappa and other grain distillates. Daric, a former editor at The Daily Show, left behind the world of television and followed his dreams of reincarnating the of Spirits of the past. This special four grain Brooklyn Stillhouse whiskey is distilled primarily from malted barley and wheat, with a small portion of corn, and rye for good measure. Tasting Notes

Levon cognac was established in Cognac Le Magnifique is made solely from grapes found in the two highest-quality crus (vineyard areas), Petite Champagne and Grande Champagne, located in the heart of the Cognac region. In the Petite Champagne and Grande Champagne crus, the soil consists of a thin layer of clay-limestone covering a deeper layer of limestone and chalk. Grande Champagne features rolling hills, while Petite Champagne features rolling hills, while Petite Champagne is more compact. However, the chalky soil found in both crus provides the optimal growing conditions for aromatic, flavorful grapes. This compelling blend is a charming blend of hundreds of eaux de vie aged for at least 10 years, hand-selected from the Cognac region's two finest crus, Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne.

Oppidian Spirits was founded in 2015 by Jeff Walsh, pegging itself as the new American school of distilling. A technique involving traditional distilling techniques and more modern innovative ways of distilling. Appellation Grande Champagne Contrle XO Blend of some forty eaux-de-vie produced exclusively from Grande Champagne grapes

In a blend of mature eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne, Antique sets out to be different. A perpetual conversation between the fruit and oak reveals notes of hazelnut, ripe quince and mild spices, appearing amid accents of fig tart and blonde tobacco. Mischievous complexity comes into being, along with sleek vivacity.

Local Choice Spirits was founded in 2010 by Paula Pixie Dezzutti Hewlette. They currently have a diverse range of quality spirits including The Legendary Hatfield & McCoy Family Brand Whiskey, Dwight Eubanks and his Eubanks Gin Collection, and Boosie Badazz's Boosie Juice Vodka. Tyler Boone is a singer, songwriter and multi-dimensional business entrepreneur from South Carolina. Boone teamed up with Paula Dezzutti Hewlette to create this homegrown Boone's Bourbon. This spirit is distilled from a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% barley at Striped Pig Distillery in Charleston. Aged in new, charred, white oak it is bottled at a high octane 58.5% ABV. Striped Pig Distillery's bespoke machinery was designed by distillers and owners, Johnny Pieper, Jim Craig and Todd Weiss who created state of the art, custom-made copper plate condensers and stainless steel boilers. Boone's Bourbon has pleasant aromas of sweet corn, vanilla and baking spice followed by a rich caramel flavored palate, kissed by a touch of smoke.

The Balvenie Distillery is just up the road from Glenfiddich on the north side of Dufftown smack dab in the middle of Speyside. Dufftown is also the home town of the Mortlach Distillery. And a young William Grant worked there at Mortlach for more than twenty years learning the distilling business. When he was ready to start out on his own, he bought the empty field and laid the foundation stone for The Balvenie in 1886. Still owned by William Grant & Sons, The Balvenie has long been a favorite of Speyside Whisky lovers. It's famous for producing Single Malts in the classic styles of the region light, fruit-forward, sweet, and clean without a trace of peat smoke. Balvenie took it a bit further, being one of the first to innovate with various double and triple-wood combinations to add complexity. All that adds to a large range of Single Malt agings and wood combinations to entertain the taste buds of fans all over the world. Released as a part of The Balvenie's Stories Collection, A Week of Peat is a reincarnation of the incredibly unique Balvenie Peat Week. Though recipe remains the same, it has been renamed to fit into the new Balvenie Stories collection. Balvenie Peat Week 2002 was the first vintage of a really interesting idea. It started as the brainchild of David Stewart Balvenie's malt master and whisky specialist Ian Miller. For one week each year they would distill peated Single Malt and thus turn the entire distillery on its head. Everything else stays the same, and the spirits are then aged in ex-Bourbon casks for a full fourteen years and bottled at 48.3% ABV. You can still taste the signature Balvenie Single Malt style notes of tropical fruits, honey, peaches, and vanilla. But now it also has a warm, earthy smoke flavor and aroma. It's Balvenie as youve never had it before, and still very different from the famous Islay peated spirits on the other side of Scotland. It's should be on the must have list of every Speyside and Balvenie fan.
