For this release that celebrates our 200 Year Anniversary, we focus on our own area of expertise and mastery which is represented by oak. Oak runs through every facet of The Macallan and our exceptional sherry seasoned oak casks are the single greatest contributor to the outstanding quality, distinctive aromas and flavours of our whisky.

THE EXPERIENCE

Tamdhu was born in 1897, on the banks of the River Spey. Now, as then, every drop is crafted with the same care - starting with water drawn from our own spring. In 1898 our founders created another Tamdhu tradition, securing a first precious shipment of sherry casks from Spain. Today, Tamdhu matures exclusively in the finest Oloroso sherry casks, nothing less. This scarce wood bears two great gifts: colour and taste. Tamdhu 15 Year Old's deep copper hue is developed by the cask, nothing more - and each drop owes its rich, complex taste to its home of a decade and a half. Established in 1950 by Don Alfonso Jiménez Rosales, a Herradura co-founder, Caballito Cerrero is among the oldest Tequila brands no longer classified as Tequila under the NOM. The Small Batch selection offers nuances only premium cooper select barrels can create from their toasting and using 18-month-old air-dried staves. Named after two influential men of New Orleans cocktail industry, Thomas Handy and John Schiller, Handy & Schiller Barreled Cocktails was introduced by the Sazerac Company. Schiller, worked as a bartender in New York, later finding his way to New Orleans. By 1860 he was operating the world-famous Sazerac Coffeehouse in the French Quarter. Thomas Handy, a Maryland native, worked for Schiller at the coffeehouse. Handy later went on to become even more successful in the industry. Handy and Schiller's integral roles in the early days of New Orleans' cocktail culture would serve as inspiration for over a century and a half years of libations in America's most unique city. The Handy & Schiller Barreled Old Fashioned, and the Handy & Schiller Barreled Manhattan are both crafted and aged at Buffalo Trace Distillery. This Handy & Schiller Manhattan is crafted using Sazerac Rye Whiskey, Vermouth and Peychaud's Bitters.

Westland has also founded and funded an organization designed to establish, promote and protect the category of American Single Malt Whiskey as a whole. The American Single Malt Whiskey Commission is rooted in the consumer and education. Today, it counts over 50 Member Producers and an equal number of trade supporters. Westland Distillery is actively developing trade programs to advance the mission and are working with several other organizations to earn a formal definition with our Federal Government. That lobbying effort will officially recognize the term American Single Malt Whiskey with a formal, legal Standard of Identity.

Maker Notes

Writers’ Tears Double Oak is an exclusive Irish whiskey created using two woods and two styles of premium Irish whiskey. A blend of Single Pot Still and Single Malt Irish whiskey, aged in two types of wood – American Oak Bourbon Barrels from Kentucky and French Oak Cognac Casks from the Cognac Region in France. It is triple-distilled, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV. This expression is made possible by a close collaboration between the Walsh family in Ireland’s County Carlow and the Legaret family in Cognac, France.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Dashes of sweet vanilla, notes of cinnamon, plum & poached pear.

TASTE: Citrus zest, chocolate undertones and lingering spice.

Named after another lost distillery of Campbeltown (which once operated right next door to Springbank and whose warehouse now houses our bottling hall), Longrow was first produced in 1973 to provide a peaty, oily and robust component to a blend being created at the time. More heavily peated and double distilled, it has been a staple in the production calendar since the 1990s. Longrow Peated offers those who enjoy a heavily peated whisky the chance to enjoy a lingering, smoky taste that travels through the senses like the smoke billows from a kiln. Matured in Bourbon and Sherry Casks

Nose: Very creamy, vanilla custard. The smoke develops gradually, rather than overpowering the other aromas present. Toasted marshmallows, herbs and rich fruits appear over time.

Palate: Incredibly well balanced; rich and creamy with a slight medicinal hint. The smoke is always present, washing over the palate in waves, like the soft billows of smoke from the Kiln.

Finish: The gentle smoke lingers and lingers leaving you yearning for more.

One of the most revered of all agave species due to its scarcity and relatively small physical size, Tobalá agave has a growing period of up to 30 years. Banhez Tobalá is known for its intense aromatics and smooth flavor profile with tasting notes consisting of green mango, leather, and fresh green herbs.
