Milam and Greene Very Small Batch 1 Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Milam and Greene

750 ml | 54% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

Master blender Heather Greene harvested 75 bourbon barrels to create the inaugural batch of Very Small Batch Bourbon. These barrels are a combination of bourbon distilled by master distiller Marlene Holmes in Kentucky using the proprietary Milam & Greene mash bill and barrels of Tennessee bourbon. The barrel recipe for Batch 1 is 20% of the precious Kentucky barrels and 80% Tennessee barrels. The barrels are divided into smaller batches to marry in 1,000-gallon vatting tanks before finishing.

The Kentucky whiskey base is distilled by the Milam & Greene team using their signature mash bill of 70% corn, 22% malted rye, and 8% malted barley. The use of malted rye provides a rich texture and nuttiness that makes it approachable at a young age. For Batch 1, the barrels are aged in Kentucky and then Texas for just shy of 4 years. The Tennessee bourbon was distilled with a mash bill of 80% corn, 10% rye, and 10% malted barley. This batch is a reflection of the climate on whiskey from three different states: Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas.

Using very small batches as the heart of our new whiskey allows for greater control over the final product. It takes much more attention to detail to produce an elegant whiskey that showcases the esters that are produced during fermentation to bring out refined fruit, floral, and herbaceous notes. To perfect the precise wood flavor without overpowering these refined ester notes, Very Small Batch Bourbon is finished with French oak staves. French oak casks that once held both tawny port wine and then Milam & Greene’s award-winning rye whiskey are broken down, then “cooked” in the 100-degree Texan summer sun, and finally house-charred to a crisp on the outside only. These crispy-on-the-outside, rye-kissed on-the-inside staves are tied in bundles and then steeped in Very Small Batch Bourbon for about two weeks in the vatting tanks.

TASTING NOTES

Color: Tawny

Nose: It starts sweet and delicious, followed by some nuttiness, soft vanilla, and French toast aromas

Palate: Fruit-forward sweetness at the beginning, quickly evolving to notes of black tea with fresh baked biscuit flavors

Finish: Long and warm

Very Small Batch Bourbon is bottled at 108 proof / 54% ABV allowing the flavors to shine when sipped neat, and to further open up with a drop of still water. This elegant bourbon style is a high-end sipper, meant to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.

Tommyrotter Napa Valley Heritage Cask Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Tommyrotter

750 ml | 47% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

Founded in 2015 by Bobby Finan and Sean Insalaco, the industrial chic distillery opened its doors in July of 2015, in New York's historic Hydraulics manufacturing district. The distillery is named after the Tommyrotters Club, which according to the distillery founders, were a band of rebellious artisans in the early 20th century who broke rank from the Arts and Crafts Movement to create for creation's sake. They sought adventure, mischief and inspiration in nature. Bobby Finan gravitated towards the craft-distilling scene in NYC, and in 2013 he got his first start in the industry at the Cooperstown Distillery. After relocating to his hometown Buffalo in 2014 he met business partner, Sean Insalaco, and by July 2015, Tommyrotter Distillery was up and running. In the spring, summer and fall months, their multi-story distillery is open to visitors. Their beautiful modern glass-walled mezzanine tasting room gives a unique view of the entire production process. At Tommyrotters their production process is simple yet quite meticulous. No frills. No automation. Just handcrafted spirits, distilled batch by batch in small copper stills. Their spirits are distilled from American farm-grown grains. Smaller stills allow for greater control over the distillation process. They fill and label every single bottle by hand. Aged in offsite warehouses in Indiana, this whiskey was shipped in barrel to the Tommyrotter facility in Buffalo, NY. In the months prior to the bourbon's arrival in Western New York, the founders sought Cabernet Sauvignon barrels from the most renowned vineyards in Napa Valley and transported them to Buffalo.

Delamain Reserve de la Famille Cognac

Delamain

750 ml | 43% ABV
Cognac

The family-run House of Delamain is one of the oldest cognac houses and has been in the art of making cognac for more than 2 centuries. Based in Jarnac, France, it was founded in 1759 when James Delamain left Ireland to settle in the French town. After his death in 1800, the business closed its doors to be reopened in 1924 by James' grandson Henri Delamain, who founded Maison Delamain. Several generations have shaped the character of the house of cognac, as it was run by botanists, writers, ornithologists, humanists, archaeologists, and historians. The cognac house is focused on XO cognac and uses eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne exclusively, this being the most prestige of all the cognac crus (regions). Delamain pride themselves on letting time work its magic, never rushing the tasting, assessment, and selection of the thousands of samples that come their way. Time is a crucial element here, as they deal with rare cognacs, often aged 50 years or more. Once an eau-de-vie has been selected it goes into the cellars of Cellar Master Dominique Touteau, where it is closely monitored throughout its long stay. The aged French oak casks preserve the fruity flavor and subtleties and are moved between different cellars; sometimes the cask needs a damp environment, other times a breezy one, a cool or warmer one. The liquid inside breathes and follows the rhythm of the seasons. When the time has come to blend the meticulously-developed cognac, the Cellar Master already knows the tiniest details and temperaments of each eau-de-vie. The blending of the cognac is left until last, only leaving the two years of marrying the final liquid in order to let all the aromas and flavors gel and make Delamain the fantastically elegant spirit that it is. The exceptional and ultra-premium Delamain Cognac Reserve de la Famille was originally meant for the Delamain family and their guests. It's special in that it's a single-estate, single-barrel Cognac. Instead of being blended, it's a single Grande Champagne eau-de-vie that has been aged for arguably the maximum amount of time that still benefits the liquid inside, around 60 years. It's undiluted, as the alcohol content has dropped naturally through the years to 43% ABV.
