In February 1899, Shinjiro Torii opened a store in Osaka, Japan that traded imported wines. Within a decade, Torii began producing his own sweet grape wine called Akadama Port Wine, which became wildly popular throughout Japan. In 1923, Torri fascinated by whisky his entire life decided to expand his business and began construction of the Yamazaki Distillery, Japan's first-ever whisky distillery. Although inspired by traditional Scottish distilleries, Torii envisioned a uniquely Japanese approach to whisky and chose a location for his distillery that offered a climate and terrain that were completely different to those of Scotland. Nestled on the periphery of Kyoto, Yamazaki Distillery is situated at the confluence of three rivers the Katsura, Uji and Kizu that provide the warm, damp environment ideal for the production and maturation of whisky. Fifty years after the construction of Yamazaki Distillery, Keizo Saji inherited his father's vision and constructed Suntory's second distillery. Situated amidst the deep forests of Mount Kaikomagatake in Japan's southern Alps, the Hakushu Distillery enjoys a unique microclimate as a result of being surrounded by nearly 6,000 varieties of plants and thousand-year-old granite rocks. Hibiki 17 Year Old Japanese Whisky is crafted from a blend of over 30 unique whiskies produced at both Yamazaki Distillery and Hakushu Distillery, including some that have matured in previously-used Umeshu casks (Umeshu casks are specially coopered casks that are used in the maturation of plum liqueur). "This is all done by hand the traditional way," says Osamu Abe, the manager of Yamazaki Distillery, referring to the cooperage taking place at the distillery. "This is called yagura craftsmanship. You must watch and listen to how they're made. In Japan, we say "use all 5 senses.' Of course we learn from others, but our own senses are key." After each whisky used to craft Hibiki Whisky has matured for a minimum of 17 years, the whisky is brought to proof using pure Japanese spring water. Hibiki, which translates to "resonance" in English, echos the unique environment in which the whisky is distilled and matured. Hibiki 17 has an aroma of peaches, melons, apricots and lemon leaves that gives to notes of black cherry, toffee vanilla and oak on the palate. The finish sweet and fruity, with a touch of lychee. Hibiki 17 Year earned the Gold Medal at the International Spirits Competition in 2012 and 2013. In addition, it was named the "Best Japanese Blended Whisky" at the World Whiskies Awards.

Frederick Durant and Willis & Joseph Booth moved into their family home beside the Oakville Mercantile & General Store in 1904. The store has provided provisions to the miners, farmers, ranchers and pioneers since it was founded at the Oakville Crossroads. Durant & Booth transformed the space into a grocery store and wine merchant for the Napa Valley and ran the store for over 40 years. During prohibition, they offered provisions for the out-of-town visitors seeking bootlegged wine and liquor. Real Minero is a family-operated producer of mezcal that is famed in Mexico and over the globe as one of the finest producers of the spirit. They are based in Santa Catarina Minas, where they employ traditional practices in making only around 300 liters of mezcal per month. They started distilling in the 1970s but the family has been involved in the farming of agaves far longer. Their mezcal is certified organic and they participate in programs that deal with agave reforestation. They have played a large role in bringing back several types of agaves that were thought to be extinct. Today, Edgar Angeles has had the baton passed to him by his late father Don Lorenzo Angeles and continues making the finest mezcal. Their mezcal is made in small batches using small 70-liter clay pot stills. The Mezcal Real Minero Largo is crafted by Mezcalero Edgar Angeles from 100% 14-year-old Largo agaves, which is an extremely rare species of the Karwinski family. The spirit is rested in glass before being bottled, which softens the profile considerably. It's fruity and tropical, yet delicate and mineral-rich a beautiful, premium spirit that is laced with tradition.

Our Straight Rye Whiskey pays homage to Kentucky Derby Black jockeys Isaac Murphy, Alonzo Clayton, Oliver Lewis, and Soup Perkins. These jockeys paved the way for future Black jockeys, who dominated the sport of horse racing from 1875 to 1903. However, as the Jim Crow laws and segregation began to grow, Black jockeys were not spared; often being denied licenses and facing physical harm. As a result, from 1921-2000, there were no Black riders in the Kentucky Derby. However the legacy of these black jockeys should not be forgotten. Old Hillside takes great pride in honoring the history of the Black jockeys. This rye offers a bold and complex taste of caramel, vanilla, mint and floral while finishes with a slight spice punch. Our light earthy notes complement the extra sweetness during the finish.

The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip. This Single Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. The story of the R6 Distillery begins with one Rob Rubens becoming disillusioned after nearly a decade of working in corporate America. After taking a tour of the Old New Orleans Rum Distillery he was captivated by the idea of starting a small and family-owned distillery and bringing quality spirits to Los Angeles. This is how the R6 Distillery and Speakeasy, situated in LA's suburb of El Segundo, came to be. Rob turned to his family history for inspiration. The name "R6" comes from six Ruben brothers, Rob's ancestors, who opened the Rubens Rialto Theatre in Joliet, Illinois in 1926. This entrepreneurship that runs in the family, as well as the stories he heard of the theatre operating in the Roaring Twenties and during the days of The Prohibition, played a great part in his decision to start R6. Today they produce over a dozen craft spirits, continuing Rob's vision of striving for greatness. R6 Carmela is named for Carmel, California. Bottled at 66 proof, it features an intense and flavorful caramel-forward profile with corn and rye spice in the background. Adorned with an attractive graphic on the label, the flavored whiskey won a Bronze Medal at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

A blend of 4-5 yr. old straight rye and straight bourbon mashed, fermented, distilled and aged at the Cedar Ridge Distillery.
