Crafted from the Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, and Colombard grape varieties, this white Pineau des Charentes undergoes a meticulous process. The lightly fermented grape must is skillfully blended with Cognac eau-de-vie and then aged for a minimum of five years, earning it the esteemed classification of 'Vieux Pineau.' As far back as 1863, the English wine and spirits merchant Anthony Hardy made a significant decision to establish himself as a Cognac trader. Embracing a more French identity, he changed his name to Antoine and founded a business as a distiller and dealer of Cognac. Within a few years, he gained recognition for the exceptional quality of his products and successfully built a robust supply of eaux-de-vie, a stroke of luck considering the impending phylloxera epidemic. Hardy persevered through the challenges and expanded his enterprise into an international network of distributors.

In the 21st century, the House of Hardy is aptly led by two remarkable women, Bénédicte and Sophie Hardy. They continue to uphold and promote their family brand across North America and Europe, maintaining the legacy of the Hardy name.

About the Brand

Central City Brewery’s master brewer Gary Lohin and master distiller Stuart McKinnon tag teamed to produce this single malt Canadian whisky. Gary takes care of producing a flavorful fermentation then passes it to Stuart who distills a full-bodied distillate. This single malt has been aged for three years in ex-bourbon barrels then bottled at 43%. Exclusive to Canada.

Lohin McKinnon Single Malt matured in premium oak barrels, this smooth and refined small batch Whisky is made from the finest Canadian Malted Barley and Pure B.C. water. The aroma is rich with darker fruity notes like cherry or grape, subtle honey, vanilla, and pleasantly woody. The golden liquid sits on the palate with a touch of green apple skins, buttery notes, woody and soft textured mouthfeel and the finish is medium length, fruity, and slightly drying at the end. Best enjoyed with a splash of cold filtered water to release the full flavor of this hand crafted gem.

TASTING NOTES

For the nose Vanilla, toffee and honey combined with a spiced fragrant maltiness. Floral fresh linens transition the nose to a palate that’s governed by barley cereals, citrus fruit and gentle oak. The light buttery texture bursts with mild spice with a welcome tartness and tang in the finish.

Girolamo Luxardo moved to what is today known as Zadar, Croatia in 1817 as a consular representative of Sardinia. It was his wife that became enamored with the local Dalmatian liqueur, the Rosolio Maraschino. In 1821 Girolamo opened a distillery and soon after received a certificate from the emperor of Austria that acknowledged its exceptional quality. Their liqueurs became known far and wide along with their growing and impressive range which included the Original Maraschino Cherries, Limoncello, and a cherry liqueur. By 1913 the company had grown considerably, opening a new state-of-the-art distillery. The operation along with the Luxardo bloodline barely made it through the Second World War, but a new distillery with its very own cherry orchards thrives today in Torreglia, the Veneto region of Northeast Italy. It employs traditional copper-pot stills while constantly upgrading and investing to stay at the forefront of the industry. The company remains family-owned and is ran by the fifth, sixth, and seventh generations of the Luxardo family. Their flagship Maraschino liqueur and a range of award-winning products are a cocktail staple, along with cherries, syrups, wines, brandies, and many others. Luxardo Maraschino Originale is made according to the 1821 recipe, using Luxardo marasca cherries. After they are harvested, they are placed in alcohol together with some leaves and branches and left in vats for 3 years. After that, both the liquid and solid parts are distilled with only the heart of the distillate going into ash-wood vats to mature. The final step is the addition of simple syrup, which transforms the distillate into a liqueur and brings the proof down to 64. It's perfect as a digestif, an invaluable cocktail ingredient, and goes particularly well with gelato or fruit.
