Catrina History

La Catrina was a zinc etching originally created in 1910 by Mexican printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada. He was known for his images of political and social satire. She became a symbolic figure during the time of the Mexican Revolution. 

​La Catrina is often associated with Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a pre-Colombian Meso-American observace of death and life that is celebrated on November 2nd in all of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula and parts of Central America.

​La Catrina in her elegance broad-brimmed hat first appeared in a satirical engraving that mocked those who pretended to be of a higher class, even if that meant starving, and going painfully thin, or without flesh. 

​To this day, La Catrina continues to be a symbolic figure. She has become part of the imagery for Dia de los muertos but also she can be found in books, cartoons, posters, figurines and artwork spanning over 100 years.

This artwork was created around 1910-1913 by José Guadalupe Posada in an etching called “La Calavera Catrina,” originally known as “La Calavera Garbancera.” She was created as a satirical image. Now we adapt Mexico's great folflore into a one of a kind Tequila Package, Dona Celia Tequila. Made out of ceramic and hand painted designs, this doll not only has a beautiful design but has a high quality 100% Agave Tequila to compliment inside.

Our family business, Three Rivers Ranch, has been fly fishing in Idaho for four generations. Made as Nature and Time Intended from the Finest Highlands Agave

Cierto Tequila represents thousands of years of biological and cultural evolution. It is nature’s ritual in a glass –no additives, no artificial ingredients, no shortcuts. Our Master Distillers, Enrique Fonseca and Sergio Mendoza, are fourth- and fifth-generation agaveros, whose family has grown agave since the 1800s. Like fine winemakers who farm the land themselves, their growers' lens and deep knowledge of agave make for the best tasting Tequila. The truth is right here in Jalisco.

Cierto is made with fully mature, estate-grown agave from the Atotonilco Highlands, where the ancient red clay soil coaxes its roots to grow deeper and absorb its complex minerality. Enrique and Sergio personally tend to each orchard, harvesting plant-by-plant only when they recognize it has reached its potential, at the Maduro and Pinto stages. At La Tequileña distillery in the town of Tequila, agave is hand-cut and slowly cooked in low pressure ovens to yield the juice that forms Cierto's base.

Inspired by Scotch whisky-making, we distill twice, in copper pots and column stills, to showcase the natural character of the terroir and agave.

Cierto is made with pure water filtered through ancient volcanic springs at the Volcán de Tequila. Only natural ingredients are used: water, yeast and agave. Nothing artificial is ever added to Cierto. It takes time to perfect a great Tequila. Our aged tequilas are gently matured in French Limousin oak casks which previously held fine wine, cognac and Armagnac – persuading the agave’s delicate essence to emerge. Each blend includes rare tequilas from the Fonseca family’s private tequila library, a vast collection spanning a variety of cellar characteristics.

DESCRIPTION

Cierto Private Collection Reposado is an incredible demonstration of what a Reposado can become when properly aged in the right conditions. The aroma is light with hints of butterscotch and cooked agave. Aged in French Limousin oak casks, this expression is smooth and rich, with flavors that begin with agave then turn to caramel and finish with a rich cinnamon spice. A wonderful accompaniment to any dinner.

Maker Notes

Don Vicente is naturally handcrafted in Destileria El Pandillo, located in the Highlands of Jalisco in a famous tequila town called Jesus Maria. Destileria El Pandillo is one of the best, most sustainable, and most innovative distilleries in the world. It has topped many lists as the best tequila distillery in Mexico.

This is all masterminded by our master distiller Ing. Felipe J. Camarena. Felipe Camarena is a 3rd generation Tequila Distiller and a 6th generation Agave Farmer, a family tradition going all the way back to 1861. His main goal is to produce the cleanest, most natural, and traditionally made tequila there can be. Camarena is also an engineer by profession. The way he mixes his engineering skills along with his tequila knowledge can be seen throughout El Pandillo in the most innovative and impressive way.

REPOSADO

Remarkably smooth. The same body of Don Vicente Blanco rested in American White Oak Bourbon barrels for less than a year. The aging adds a complexity of aromas and flavors. The cooked Blue Weber Agave, minerality, and earthiness are all still very present; with hints of vanilla, caramel, and butter.

A rich and buttery mouthfeel.

Meaning “rested,” Dulce Vida Reposado is aged in American Oak whiskey barrels. Dulce Vida Reposado has a light honey color and refreshing aroma of fruit. With hints of caramel and citrus, Dulce Vida Reposado is our most versatile tequila and has a mild, sweet finish.

Compoveda Reposado Tequila is a premium tequila that is produced in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. This tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, which is grown in the rich volcanic soil of the region. The name "Compoveda" means "vault" in Spanish, a fitting name for a tequila that is aged in oak barrels in a secure cellar.

To create this unique tequila, the agave is harvested by hand and then roasted in traditional brick ovens. After the roasting process, the agave is crushed and the juice is fermented with natural yeasts. The resulting liquid is then distilled twice in copper stills to create a smooth and flavorful tequila.

Adriana fell in love with a man and introduced him to the Mexican way of life, the culture, and the passion for tequila. Laura created the lovely artwork for this year's edition, comprising love, craftsmanship, and culture into one piece – our limited Artist Edition!

TASTE PROFILE

Double Barrel: The tequila matured in two different American oak barrels. First, it aged for 6 months in an ex-Bourbon barrel, then two additional months in another ex-Bourbon barrel to give it that special final touch. The result is 3000 double-aged bottles filled with liquid gold.

Visual: The spirit appears in a bright straw yellow color with decent golden glints that make it shine. A medium body fills the bottle.

Aromatic: Sweet fruity tones such as peach, yellow apple, and cooked agave are very present. Accompanied by a light chocolate flavor and preserved fruits. The barrels influenced the spirit with great woody and caramel nuances.

Taste: Predominantly cooked agave, as well as barrel aromas with a woody tone and preserved caramel. Soft chocolate, peach, and apple flavors fill the mouth. All in all, very balanced and harmonious!

How to enjoy:
This Double Barrel Reposado is enjoyed best at a temperature between 18°C and 20°C, preferably in a tumbler glass, and by sipping in good company. Allow the spirit to oxygenate for about 15 minutes to develop its best aromas. It also harmonizes well with different meat-based dishes.

AROMA: The nose is delicate and fruity offering aromatics reminiscent of baked or grilled pineapple, but is best identified as pure, baked agave.

FINISH: Long and creamy finish with lingering smoky and spicy notes.

TEQUILA REPOSADO

Aged 2-3 months in American oak bourbon casks. Rich, baked agave and candied yams, hints of toffee and caramel, with a long, exceptionally smooth finish.

Maker Notes

We use only the finest Blue Weber agave, grown in rich volcanic soil of Jalisco and tended to by skilled agave farmers. Our tequila undergoes a unique 9 month aging process, that starts with the barrel staves being coated with the sweetness of cooked agave that has been caramelized into the wood of our "11 Year-Vintage" barrels. Using estate-grown piñas the tequila is then added to the barrels, which are gently rolled to enhance the natural oak and agave flavors. After resting for 9 months, the result is our reposado tequila, Eros: a sweet, flavorful spirit with a light amber hue, ideal for sipping, on the rocks, or in cocktails.

Housed in a ceramic decanter with a ceramic and chrome top.

Master Distiller Ricardo Gamarra managed the complete creation method of  Eros. Presenting a matured and bolder expression with an extensive finish of French Oak, exotic spices, and a true agave sweetness that will make you crave another sip.  Kosher Certified.

Rested and aged are thoroughly tasted until finding the best barrels that will make this a unique crystalline wine. This selection of aged and reposados ​​will have to leave the barrel in which they reached character and maturity to be distilled for the third time and thus polish the notes and tastes in the most whimsical way, taking care of their identity in every detail.

About the Brand

The Camarena brothers used to run the Santa Maria ranch from sunset to sunset. The only thing that could stop them was their parents call to come home for dinner.

Driven by the unbridled passion that lived in their hearts, one afternoon in the cold winters of 1976, they left the ranch without permission to ride their horses, taking them to the municipal lane of Arandas for a clandestine race of 100 rods, the young brothers looked at each other with the certainty that this day would remain engraved in their memories; with passion and enthusiasm, they set off on their horses in an unprecedented race, competing head to head….

A few meters from the end of the race, the unexpected happens, they see that the chain of the finish line is set and they know perfectly well that their end is near… Suddenly, the imposing mare «Paloma» runs to line up next to the horse «Pinto», and with the sum of their strength they manage to break the chain, saving the lives of the Camarena brothers. That moment was the motivation to follow a dream, Tequila Carrera.

Casamigos Cristalino Reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber agave from the rich red clay soil of the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Our reposado is twice distilled and aged to perfection in American white oak barrels, then carefully charcoal filtered to restore the crisp, bright agave flavor found in our Blanco Tequila while maintaining some of the cask notes. The filtration process removes the golden honey color of the Reposado, resulting in a crystal-clear spirit.
