In March 1791, President George Washington, on the request of Alexander Hamilton, signed the Whiskey Excise Act, marking the first federal tax on American spirits. Western farmers, mainly small-scale distillers, fiercely opposed it. Washington led a militia to quell the "Whiskey Rebellion" without violence. Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskies, paying tribute to the state's whiskey tradition, are rooted in the region's heritage. Crafted from 80% rye, 15% malted barley, and 5% malted rye, these local grains undergo slow fermentation for seven days before distillation in a German-imported copper-pot still. Double finished in port wine barrels, they earn accolades like a Gold Medal and a 91-point rating from the Beverage Testing Institute.
