Roundhouse Corretto Coffee Liqueur
Situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of over 5,000 feet, Roundhouse Spirits was founded in 2007 by Ted Palmer, a third-generation Colorado native. "We founded the distillery with only one goal in mind," says Palmer, "we wanted to be the Front Range Mountains' premier micro-distillery."
Roundhouse Corretto Coffee Liqueur was originally inspired by a caffe corretto that Palmer enjoyed (caffe corretto is an Italian beverage that is crafted by blending together espresso with an aliquot of liquor). Roundhouse Corretto Coffee Liqueur is made by blending together a corn-based spirit with coffee crafted from organic, free-trade coffee beans locally-roasted by Gerry Leary of The Unseen Bean. "I brew about fifty gallons at a time," says Palmer, who notes that he also adds Madagascar vanilla beans, together with a touch of cane sugar and molasses, to the coffee in order to provide a more authentic flavor profile. After the coffee has been brewed, it is blended with the corn-based spirit and bottled by hand (each batch yields only 480 bottles).
Roundhouse Corretto Coffee Liqueur has a dark auburn color, along with an aroma of whipped cream, caramel and espresso. Rich and viscous, the aroma gives way to mellow notes of milk chocolate, coffee and vanilla on the palate, and leads to a light finish with a touch of sweetness.
The liqueur earned the Gold Medal at the Great American Distiller's Festival and the Telluride Spirits Competition in 2013. In addition, it earned the Gold Medal at the Denver International Spirits Festival in 2014.
"In Italian, "caffe corretto' translates to "coffee corrected,'" says Palmer. "Our liqueur needs no correction." Pick up a bottle today!
