Hendry Petit Verdot 2019 Napa Valley Wine

Hendry Block 15 is located on bench lands west of the town of Napa. Morning fog and afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay moderate our southern Napa Valley climate, creating a transitional climate zone between the cooler Carneros region and the warmer northern reaches of the Napa Valley. Both Block 15A and B are planted with CTPS clone 400 of Petit Verdot, on St. George roots. The combined acreage of the blocks is 4.08 acres, totaling 5,122 vines. 15B was planted in 1997, followed by 15A, replanted in 2002 over an old Chardonnay block. 

In 2019 budbreak was April 3rd, bloom was May 29th-31st, veraison took place August 10th-15th, and harvest was October 6th through the 11th, with a yield of 4.65 tons/acre. Bloom to harvest was 130 days. This bottling was aged for approximately 15 months in French oak barrels, approximately 55% of which were new. 

We occasionally bottle these individual varieties and release them on a limited basis. Single-varietal Hendry Petit Verdot has been released in only a handful of vintages.

Opaque purple-ruby. Really interesting initial aromas of soft oak, pepper and the caramelized sugar and deep berry of a blueberry muffin. Full-bodied (though not quite as lush as the 2018) with pleasing, fine-textured tannins. Flavors of dark berries and cola. Cocoa in the finish. This young wine will open up with age, revealing more fruit and texture on the palate. We might pair with grilled or roasted meats, sharp, smoked or aged cheeses like gruyere or gouda, and other full-flavored foods with moderate richness, especially those with intensely savory/umami flavors like olives, mushrooms or truffles.

Erika, who is the mastermind behind the Padre Azul tequila, is one of only a few females in this branch but also one of the most talented distillers! Laura created the lovely artwork for this year's edition, comprising love, craftsmanship, and culture into one piece – our limited Artist Edition!

TASTE PROFILE

Double Barrel: The tequila matured in two different American oak barrels. First, it aged for 6 months in an ex-Bourbon barrel, then two additional months in another ex-Bourbon barrel to give it that special final touch. The result is 3000 double-aged bottles filled with liquid gold.

Visual: The spirit appears in a bright straw yellow color with decent golden glints that make it shine. A medium body fills the bottle.

Aromatic: Sweet fruity tones such as peach, yellow apple, and cooked agave are very present. Accompanied by a light chocolate flavor and preserved fruits. The barrels influenced the spirit with great woody and caramel nuances.

Taste: Predominantly cooked agave, as well as barrel aromas with a woody tone and preserved caramel. Soft chocolate, peach, and apple flavors fill the mouth. All in all, very balanced and harmonious!

How to enjoy:
This Double Barrel Reposado is enjoyed best at a temperature between 18°C and 20°C, preferably in a tumbler glass, and by sipping in good company. Allow the spirit to oxygenate for about 15 minutes to develop its best aromas. It also harmonizes well with different meat-based dishes.

SEASON 2004, EASE & GENEROSITY

With its remarkable ease and generosity, the 2004 winemaking year stands out in the history of Dom Pérignon. 
The year unfolded in a virtually ideal scenario. Each season segued to the next with ease and fluidity, devoid of disturbances or excess. A rather cool August was followed by a few weeks of dry heat that made the vintage.
The harvest began on September 24th, providing grapes that were superbly ripe. 

NOSE & PALATE - AN AFFIRMED AND PRECISE MINERALITY

The 2004 fruit remains discreet, yet more clearly defined in this second plenitude of the Vintage. Citrusy notes of pink grapefruit and blood oranges gently cede to figs. 
The additional time on the lees elevates the minerality of the vintage with the sublime maturity that is Dom Pérignon’s signature. Plénitude 2, 2004, has notes of Cocoa, mocha, roasted nuts, brioche and honey. 

The wine balances on the edge with immediacy and surprise, evolving between tension and weightlessness. 
It has an extreme, tactile precision, deep and sculptural. 
The sensations come together in a persistent and elegant finish, underlined by sappy, licorice notes.

FOOD & WINE PAIRING

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2004 Plénitude 2 offers attractive pairing possibilities, diving into concepts, ingredients, styles, to explore different recipes.
The wine is vibrant, a trait that can be revealed by lobster, molé verde and cardamom. 
The combination of veal, dashi broth and spirulina will bring out the paradoxical facet of the wine while pigeon, pistachio and kalamanci baklava will highlight its light.
The wine is tactile: a green tomato sorbet will magnify its silky, creamy character.
The wine exhibits a balanced tension: a facet that can be explored thanks to roasted pineapple, candied citrus peel and aniseed.
