About the Brand

The Store begins in 1822 in remote and isolated Livet valley that made it ideal for illicit distillation. This is where our founder George Smith learned his craft. Hidden away from the Customs Officers and soldiers amongst the hills and abundant springs, George had time to distill slowly making a whisky that would soon become world renowned. In August 1822, King George IV arrived in Scotland for a state visit and asked to try a drop of the infamous Glenlivet whisky. An illegal dram it was, but even that didn’t stop the King. 

By the late ‘30’s, The Glenlivet distillery was producing more than 200 gallons a week. This expansion meant our founder would soon need more employees. A few years later, Andrew Ushers & Sons of Edinburgh joined as sales agents, helping spread the word of the whisky.

To this day we continue George Smith's vision to break traditions, set new standards and move things forward; selecting exceptional unique casks, finishes and liquids and delivering unique serves and cocktails to open up the world of single malt to all.

Our Glenlivet 12 Year has been called a lot of things in its time: smooth, fruity, complex, sophisticated, entertaining, classic. The Original Malt Whisky Almanac says: “A first-class malt. One of the most popular malts in the world – deservedly so.” Representing The Glenlivet’s signature style, this classic malt is first matured in traditional oak, before spending time in American oak casks which impart notes of vanilla and gives the whisky it’s distinctive smoothness. The mineral-rich water that comes from Josie’s Well helps form the flavors during mashing and fermentation, whilst the specific height and width of the copper stills add a delicate yet complex character. Keep a bottle on hand for every occasion.

The origin of this whisky's deep and satisfying flavor stems from a maturation technique pioneered by The Glenlivet, known as Selective Maturation.

A portion of the mature spirit is transferred to virgin oak casks made from French Limousin oak, the same casks that are used for maturing fine French wines and cognacs. This genus of oak adds spiciness, without being overpowering.

The Glenlivet's Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, has a wealth of quality casks to choose from when creating this complex expression, each of which has rested a minimum of 18 years in oak. The mix of casks - American and European oak, first and second fill - all play their parts to create this whisky, our single most awarded expression, and its unique character. The European oak adds spicy notes and complexity and the first-fill American oak casks add the tropical fruitiness that makes it unmistakably The Glenlivet in style. Its golden hue bears testimony to its 18 years very well spent maturing.

Our 21 Year Old Archive has over two decades of distilling expertise in every bottle. A variety of casks complete the flavor, with a noticeable sherry influence. Each cask is nosed and approved by Master Distiller Alan Winchester, and every batch is unique with subtle differences from those that came before and those still to follow.

Creating this exceptional whisky requires craftsmanship and mastery of centuries old traditions.

The finest raw ingredients, mastery of the art of distilling premier spirits and the selection of only the finest oak casks, each over 25 years of age and chosen at the peak of maturation.

The casks are married together in batches and then finished in sherry casks for final flourish of spice, depth and complexity.

Jameson Irish Whiskey is triple-distilled and aged in seasoned white oak barrels for a minimum of five years, creating a distinct, smooth flavor. A balance of spicy, nutty, and vanilla notes with hints of sweet sherry gives Jameson its smooth and versatile taste.

Whiskey is only as good as the ingredients. Jameson Irish Whiskey is made with three key ingredients: water, barley, and maize.

Water
Great whiskey starts with the water, and Jameson's life source is the Dungourney River, which flows through the Midleton distillery and plays a vital role in the production process.

Barley
Jameson is one of a handful of whiskeys in the world produced using a combination of malted and unmalted barley. The barley comes from farms located within 100 miles of the Jameson distillery, many of which have produced barley for centuries. The use of unmalted barley is a long-standing Irish tradition and one which Jameson continues, believing it contributes to the smooth characteristics of the whiskey.

Maize
And though Jameson aims to keep ingredients sourced as locally as possible, maize is a sun-loving crop. Since Ireland isn't particularly well known for sunshine, Jameson uses non-genetically modified maize from the Bayonne region in the south of France.

Triple distilled, flame charred, for a rich smooth taste.

Charring is an age-old method for invigorating barrels to intensify the taste. Jameson Black Barrel is our tribute to our coopers, who painstakingly give their bourbon barrels an additional charring to reveal their untold richness and complexity. The select double charred barrels produce a whiskey with even richer flavor and intense smoothness.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Time spent maturing in these barrels leads to intensified aromas of butterscotch, fudge and creamy toffee.

Taste: Nutty notes are in abundance alongside the smooth sweetness of spice and vanilla.

Finish: Enjoy the richness and intensity of toasted wood and vanilla.

Lot ^No. 40 is a 100% Rye whisky and is expertly distilled in small batches using only the finest locally sourced ingredients. By distilling in a single copper pot still, the result is a whisky that starts off earthy and woody tasting and then becomes full bodied and complex with a velvety vanilla oak finish.

One of the most decorated Irish whiskeys, Redbreast is the largest selling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey in the world. Regarded as the definitive expression of traditional Single Pot Still whiskey, the genesis of Redbreast dates back to 1903 when John Jameson & Son entered into an agreement with the Gilbeys Wines & Spirits Import Company to supply them with new make spirit from their Bow St. Distillery. The custom of that era was that distillers sold bulk whiskey to ‘bonders’ who, being in the business of importing fortified wines such as sherry and port, had ample supplies of empty casks in which to mature new make whiskeys under bond. Single Pot Still whiskey is unique to Ireland in general and to the Midleton Distillery, Co. Cork, in particular, and is regarded as the quintessential style of Irish whiskey. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills, Pot Still whiskeys are characterized by full, complex flavors and a wonderful creamy mouthfeel.

Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in copper pot stills, Redbreast 12 boasts the flavor complexity and distinctive qualities of Pot Still whiskey. Matured in a combination of Bourbon seasoned American Oak barrels and Oloroso Sherry seasoned Spanish oak butts, the distinctive Redbreast sherry style is a joy to behold in each and every bottle.

Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in copper pot stills, Redbreast 15 is comprised exclusively of Pot Still whiskeys matured in the finest oak casks for no less than 15 years. A careful balance of first fill and refill casks accentuates the assorted spices within Redbreast’s characteristic full and complex flavor.

1703 Master Select is an annual limited release of Mount Gay's oldest reserves. This exceptionnal blend offers rich notes of almonds, toffee, backed figs and salted caramel. 1703 is recognized for its elegance and complexity, delivered in a full body and smooth finish.

All our single malts are made with the best local ingredients of barley and soft water from nearby mountain, Ben Rinnes.
