O.F.C. VINTAGES

Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. christened the O.F.C. Distillery in 1870 and this legendary whiskey brand has been revered ever since.  The most state-of-the-art distillery of its era featured copper fermentation vats, column stills, and a first-of-its-kind steam heating system, still used in our aging warehouses today. This very rare and collectible bourbon honors the O.F.C. Distillery, a National Historic Landmark known today as Buffalo Trace Distillery. Each hand-cut crystal bottle is vintage dated according to the specific year in which the bourbon was distilled. Enjoy this whiskey of a bygone era, sourced from barrels of yesteryear.

TASTING NOTES

Tasting notes for this bourbon describe cherry cordial on the nose followed by caramel and slightly smoked-oak. Dark chocolate, tobacco leaves and dates are found on the palate, followed by a lingering finish of leather, black pepper and cinnamon.

Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company is a dedicated cause, acquiring some of the rarest casks from some of the finest whiskey cellars, and releasing them into the world as a cascade of limited edition, barrel-aged ambrosia. In 2013 bourbon and Tennessee whiskey were labeled the fastest growing product category by volume in the U.S. alcohol business. The Orphan bottling project was more or less an ingenious response to this boom in the whiskey industry, and an effort to accommodate the vast quantities of leftover product from their monopoly of acquisitions. When Diageo didn't have a place for the acquired product in their blends, they set the spirits aside. Time transformed this new spirit into aged delicacies. In 2013, Orphan Barrel Whiskey was created by Diageo, commercializing a large stock of ultra-aged American whiskeys that it had been maturing at the Stitzel-Weller distillery in Shively Kentucky. Orphan Barrel Muckety-Muck is a similar beast, except that it hails from across The Pond. Following in the footsteps of Forager's Keep 26 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, it's their first single grain Scotch and an equally well-aged one at 24 years. The spirit comes from the famous Port Dundas Distillery that operated for 2 centuries, until its closing in 2010. This liquid comes from the rare remaining stocks that offer a glimpse into the historic distillery.

Born from a marriage of traditional tequila making and modern technology, Partida Familia Tequila is made from blue agave nectar sourced near El Cerro, a dormant volcano, in Santiago de Tequila, Mexico. From afar, the rolling hills of agave fields could be mistaken for vineyards in the south of France or Sonoma Valley. Up close, however, you can see the rich red soil, which creates the perfect terrain for maturing the agave plant. With years of experience, jimadors determine exactly when each agave is ready for harvest. Jose Valdez, Tequila Partida's master distiller, holds a Tequila Expert degree from Cultura y Capacitacin del Tequila A.C. (Tequila Culture and Training Association), and is also a certified Tequila Technician from the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (Tequila Regulatory Council). He carefully monitors the entire production process, including the quality of the blue agave. The pias are perfectly ripened with mature, robust sugars, the blue agave is harvested by hand and slowly baked in state-of-the-art autoclaves to preserve freshness and flavor. After the agave has been baked and shredded, Valdez lets the agave juices ferment for nearly two days before twice distilling the tequila. The Roble Fino ("fine oak") series was conceived upon Valdez's visit to Scotland, where he envisioned a partnership between tequila and Scotch single malts. He crafted 3 unique expressions: the Reposado, Reposado Cristalino, and Aejo, which build on the super-solid foundation of their award-winning regular Reposado and Aejo tequilas. These are then finished in Edrington's sherry-seasoned single malt oak casks. The Roble Fino Reposado takes the 6-month-old liquid that is aged in ex-bourbon barrels, then adds another two months of finishing in sherry-seasoned single malt oak casks on top of that, before being bottled at 86 proof. 

Source of grapes: Pyritis is made from extraordinary three parcels of 100% Assyrtiko that can be more of 120 years of age, two in Pyrgos and one in Megalochori. These are two villages that are highly regarded for producing top quality grapes.

Winemaking: Classic white vinification under controlled temperature using only neutral yeasts in order to maintain the varietal character. We take care to vinify these parcels as naturally as possible letting them speak for themselves. When the fermentation ends the blend matures on total lees for 10 months with regular lees stirring.

Description: Pure nose, full of minerality and flint which is a typical hint of Santorini’s Assyrtiko. Notes of matured stone-fruits and tart of citrus fruits. The palate shows considerable depth and genuine concentration, rich and dense with finesse and well balanced acidity. Long aftertaste with saltiness and minerality.

Aging potential: For at least a decade.

Serving and food pairing: Decanting is suggested in order to breath and open up its complicated character. Better served at 11-13⁰C, matches perfectly with oily fish or salmon carpaccio. Alternatively try it with lamb fricassee or white meat like stuffed turkey, making also a great pair with pasta or shellfish risotto.

Catrina History

La Catrina was a zinc etching originally created in 1910 by Mexican printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada. He was known for his images of political and social satire. She became a symbolic figure during the time of the Mexican Revolution. 

​La Catrina is often associated with Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a pre-Colombian Meso-American observace of death and life that is celebrated on November 2nd in all of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula and parts of Central America.

​La Catrina in her elegance broad-brimmed hat first appeared in a satirical engraving that mocked those who pretended to be of a higher class, even if that meant starving, and going painfully thin, or without flesh. 

​To this day, La Catrina continues to be a symbolic figure. She has become part of the imagery for Dia de los muertos but also she can be found in books, cartoons, posters, figurines and artwork spanning over 100 years.

This artwork was created around 1910-1913 by José Guadalupe Posada in an etching called “La Calavera Catrina,” originally known as “La Calavera Garbancera.” She was created as a satirical image. Now we adapt Mexico's great folflore into a one of a kind Tequila Package, Dona Celia Tequila. Made out of ceramic and hand painted designs, this doll not only has a beautiful design but has a high quality 100% Agave Tequila to compliment inside.

Uncut and unfiltered, this hand-bottled bourbon is barrel proof. Weller substitutes wheat for the traditional rye grain, a production method pioneered by W.L. Weller.

TASTING NOTES

Fragrant scents of caramel corn, new leather, plums, light toffee and pipe tobacco. The palate tastes of marshmallow, salted almonds, nougat, figs and dates. This whiskey finishes smooth, composed and flavorfully sweet.
