Established in 1948, Douglas Laing is a proudly independent, family owned Scotch Whisky business in its third generation. Over 70 years of heritage have helped us to refine our processes, and deliver Whisky that is consistently exceptional in its offering.

Abiding to the philosophy of presenting Whisky as the Distiller intended, we add nothing and take nothing away from our spirit, enabling Whisky lovers around the world to come as close as they possibly can to sampling a dram straight from the Cask.

Douglas Laing's Big Peat is a feisty Islay character with a sweet side. This is a small batch bottling, without colouring or chill-filtration and only contains Islay Malt Whiskies, including Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and (even the elusive) Port Ellen, to name but a few!

Big Peat is a marriage of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies only from the island of Islay. With Caol Ila spirit bringing sweetness, Bowmore the perfect balance, Ardbeg a medicinal, earthy quality and Port Ellen, a degree of elegance, Big Peat represents all that is Islay in a bottle. Part of the Remarkable Regional Malts range, the ultimate distillation of Scotland’s Malt Whisky Regions.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Opens fresh, salty and clean - developing to sweet malt dried over peat.

Palate: Ashes, sweet tar, beaches and smoking chimneys.

Finish: Long and lingering finish that replicates the palate with salty, tangy liquorice, smoke, bonfire ashes and a phenolic quality.

Based in Glasgow, Scotland, the company produces a number of brands including their Remarkable Regional Malts range, featuring expressions like The Epicurean, Scallywag, Rock Oyster and Big Peat, and Timorous Beastie, among several others. The family-owned business specializes in artisan, Small Batch, and Single Cask bottlings. The original Timorous Beastie is referenced in Scotsman Robert Burns famous poemTo aMouse. Named after the timid mouse, this Timorous Beastie is anything but. The embodiment of the Highland single malt, this whisky is a marriage of the region's finest Malts including Dalmore, Glengoyne, and Glen Garioch. Non-chill-filtered and bottled at 46.8% abv, this whisky is a viscose spirit, rich in character, with an incredible mouth-feel.

As the first ever Big Peat Christmas Edition finished in sherry casks, this special release truly encapsulates the flavour of Christmas in a bottle. Typically Islay in flavour, the palate carries notes of ash, sweet tar, smoking chimneys and a subtle salty beach quality, with a long and lingering phenolic finish.

Tasting Notes
Anticipate hints of dried fruit, cocoa, and spiced oak. Then comes candied peel alongside Hebridean sea air, peated barley, and ‘his’ signature smoke!

Inspired by a long line of Douglas Laing family Fox Terriers, Scallywag Malt Scotch Whisky is a marriage of aged Speyside Single Malts matured predominantly in Spanish Sherry casks. The resulting Whisky reveals an explosion of rich, dark fruits, chocolate and spice interwoven with late vanilla. Award-winning Scallywag is bottled and released in genuinely small, precious batches. Part of the Remarkable Regional Malts range, the ultimate distillation of Scotland’s Malt Whisky Regions.

Scallywag is a Small Batch bottling created using only the finest Speyside Malts including - amongst others - Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Bottled at 46% alcohol strength and non-chill-filtered, this Small Batch bottling has a distinct rich, dark colour - extracted purely from the fine Spanish Sherry Butts used during maturation.

Tasting Notes: SWEETLY SPICED, ZESTY AND RICH.

Nose: A richly spiced character woven into delicious vanilla.

Palate: Detect layer on layer of sweet stewed fruits and dark chocolate fused with nutmeg and cinnamon, much of which can be attributed to years slumbering in Spanish Sherry butts.

Finish: Displays a burst of zesty orange with fresh ginger, cocoa and rich fruitcake.
