About the Brand

There is a Hawaii not often seen by those who live outside the islands, and yet it is all around. There is comfort in being surrounded by it, knowing all the gifts it has given, and still gives, to us. And here in Hawaii, wrapped in the warm and clear Pacific, we live by its rhythm, the Ocean.

We see the sun rise and set on it each day; it waits for us around every corner; it’s the reward for every scaled peak. It is the constant in the life of a Hawaiian. Whether in the presence of its vast stillness or when it rages against the sky, we’re humbled — it reminds us that we are small, and we are lucky to be here. All life is precious and flourishes because of it, and we offer tribute.

Anyone who’s lived or even visited the Islands shares a connection and deep appreciation for the things that make Hawai‘i such a special place on Earth.

For Shay Smith and his family, it is where their life-adventure and OCEAN Organic Vodka began. Being born and raised on Maui provided the luxury to explore this tropical paradise, which included passionately riding its magnificent ocean waves. The Hawaiian Islands are his home and a magical place worth sharing. After returning from college and some International travel, Shay was encouraged by his entrepreneurial parents to create a premium product from Hawaii with the desire of making it available around the world.

The Vision

The idea of OCEAN Organic Vodka was sparked by an article in the newspaper about one of Hawaii's natural resources - desalinated deep ocean mineral water off the Kona coast of the Bid Island, This coupled with a collection of experiences like relaxing on the Ianai after a long day, enjoying a lobation and "talking-story" with friends and family became the basis for this celebratory creation 

Ocean Vodka is distilled from pure organic sugar cane using continuous column distillation through 103 platelets. Each platelet acts as a mini-distillation, resulting in an exceptionally pure spirit.
Ocean Vodka is the only spirit in the world made with 100% deep ocean mineral water, sourced from 3,000 feet below the Kona Coast of the Island of Hawaii. The water in Ocean Vodka contains trace minerals including calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which combine to create an exceptionally smooth and distinct flavor. These minerals impart a light, crisp taste to Ocean vodka, and make a better-tasting drink.
Ocean is best served on the rocks or mixed with freshly squeezed fruit juices.

Our 3-year-old rum is a product of collaboration - conceived in California, aged in Florida, rested in Minnesota. Left in ex- rye barrels, our aged rum embraces the American whiskey tradition, adding a slight dryness to our caramel and vanilla notes.

Distilled in a pot still from molasses produced from Floridian sugar cane. Aged in ex-rye barrels and bottled at 44% abv. Free of any additives or artificial colors. Excellent neat or in classic cocktails.

Easily evident flavors including banana and mango. Hints of vanilla and cocoa can be detected in a lingering taste. Spicy and smoky tones derived from our unique Rye wash.

Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich wanted to release a rye that demonstrates his evolution on his path as a whiskey maker. One that has depth, but still sessionable, approachable and most importantly, enjoyable to drink. Designed for rye whiskey enthusiasts while establishing this particular rye recipe to uniquely stand apart from the rye whiskey mainstream. The name for this release is aptly dubbed RYE THE LIGHTNING™ because the playlist used in the BLACK NOISE sonic-enhancement process is Ride the Lightning. But Rob Dietrich and Metallica didn’t want to just use the original version — they wanted to amp it up a notch. They chose a playlist consisting solely of the Ride The Lightning portion of Metallica’s June 2012 Orion Music + More festival setlist — the one and only time the band has ever played the album live in its entirety, albeit in reverse track order from the original album.

A Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, Double Cask Finished in Madeira and Rum Casks

Crafted from Kentucky straight rye whiskeys aged between 5-8 years and hand-selected by BLACKENED Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich.

TASTING NOTES

The double cask finishing results in notes of dried fig, hay, pinewood, pear, and rum cake on the nose, and on the palate, clover honey, mint, corn husk, sugar cane, walnut, and cinnamon.

45% ABV | 90 PROOF

The first Straight Rye made in Pennsylvania in over 25 years, this delicious whiskey is distilled farm-to-bottle in Pennsylvania with locally harvested grain and aged for a minimum of four years. The classic Pre-Prohibition flavor profile is the result of time-tested distilling methods and painstaking attention to detail.

Rye whiskey finished in Martinique rhum, Madeira, and apricot brandy casks.

Two sets of 20-year-old 100% Canadian Rye barrels were used as the foundation of Gold Label Seagrass - one with bright citrus notes and the other with earthy notes. A portion of the first group was finished in Apricot Brandy casks, a portion of the second group was finished in Martinique rhum barrels, and a blend of the first and second groups was finished in Malmsey Madeira barrels. When each set of secondary maturation flavors peaked, those casks were pulled and slowly married into the final blend.

Gold Label Seagrass represents the pinnacle of Barrell Craft Spirits’ Seagrass series. It is clear from the nose that this Rye Whiskey is old and layered, with savory, herbaceous notes behind the trademark Seagrass tropical freshness. All in all, this whiskey is remarkably flavorful, showcasing the best of the Seagrass profile in a whiskey that can only be made this complex with time in the barrel.

Appearance: Rose gold with flashes of sunflower yellow.

Nose: Classic Canadian rye notes of white flower, toasted grains, and bright honey. As it sits in the glass, toasty tropical notes of apricot and roasted pineapple present themselves. Nutty, raisin-like madeira shows here too, as does a subtle wild-grassy freshness. After a minute, toasted hazelnut and orange blossom drift into focus.

Palate: Ripe Meyer lemon and clover honey show first, with fresh basil and perfectly ripe pineapple taking over in the mid-palate. There are glimmers of deeply aged rye, as this layered whiskey evolves sip to sip. Moments of heat are balanced with a viscous sweetness, brightened by the natural acidity of the Malmsey Madeira finish. Black pepper is present too, as this is a cask strength rye, but the tropical notes win out until the finish.

Finish: A touch of classic rye spice presents itself on the finish, with exotic pink peppercorn and Mediterranean herbs including fresh oregano and sun-dried rosemary. The spice is tempered by a sweet, apricot-dominated viscosity drawing out the finish. Finally, tropical sweetness subsides into more classic mature whiskey notes like leather and nutmeg, leaving your palate with lemon, honey, and cracked black pepper.

WEALTH AND AUTHENTICITY

The rich and intense style of Jamaica and Barbados, with their notes of plum, banana and vanilla, is enhanced by meticulous blending and further maturation, in France.

The result is a profound structure spiced with notes of cinnamon and clove, whose smoky quality adds texture.

TASTING NOTES

Nose : Hints of black peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, baked cherry, prune, molasses; later sniffs encounter forest, leaves, black tea, dry stone.

Palate : Entry is fruity with white raisins, dried pineapple, and is off-dry. midpalate is spicy, piquant, minerally, and significantly drier than the entry stage. Ends spicy.

An homage to the popular history of Oaxacan clay-pot mezcal aged in brandy barrels, Don Amado Reposado uses exhausted brandy barrels from Pedro Domecq to create a nostalgic flavor of earthen-smoked maguey with the soft caramel and butterscotch notes of American white oak.

Familiar Mexican flavors of roasted corn slathered in butter, hints of vanilla and cinnamon, tropical fruit and dried chilies are balanced with a moderate amount of smoke leading into barrel notes of a satisfying, slightly spicy vanilla-driven extended finish.

• Flavor:Great smoothness with a sweet strike of maple, white chocolate, vanilla and coffee. It retains its sense of dried fruits, such as raisins and plums. Its taste in the mouth invites us to take another sip so we can appreciate the sweet and bitter combination that makes it so captivating.
