Blend & Aging Process

This whiskey begins with a blend of 5-6 year old MGP bourbon (60% corn, 36% rye, 4% malted barley), 6-year-old MGP bourbon (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley), and 8-year-old Kentucky corn whiskey (99% corn, 1% malted barley). After blending, the whiskey is aged for 3 months in toasted barrels from Independent Stave Company and Speyside Cooperage, before being finished for 1 month in barrels that previously held honey from Fern Valley Farms in Arkansas. The result is a wonderfully balanced whiskey with a sweet, honeyed finish that showcases both boldness and refinement.

Three Chord states that they are first and foremost blenders. However, they recently came across a small lot of barrels and felt they should enter the bourbon community in their original form. Their Whiskey Drummer 15 Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey is non-chill filtered and bottled at barrel proof (117.9 Proof). A total of 2,500 bottles were produced from the small lot of barrels. These bottles will be released in two small batches consisting of 10 barrels each.

MASH BILL: 78.5 Corn, 12.5 Rye, 9 barley

APPEARANCE: DARK COPPER

AROMA: The nose jumps out of the glass with campfire, baking spice, and dark chocolate.

TASTE: This bourbon is heavy on the pallet but surprisingly well balanced, considering its age. There is oak, but it’s not overpowering at all. Instead, notes of walnut, leather, smoke, vanilla, and allspice linger for an exceptionally long finish.

FINISH: LONG LASTING NOTES OF BROWN SUGAR, CINNAMON AND BLACK CHERRY

Blended Bourbon Whiskey

The Three Chord flagship small batch is bottled at an easy-drinking 81 proof, featuring up to 12 year old whiskys from Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee to create a smooth, aromatic and versatile bourbon whiskey.

Our secondary, controlled, wood-charring process reintroduces compounds to create its maple syrup, caramel, and vanilla character. Integrating the additional toasted White American Oak staves brings depth of flavor and a hint of smokiness. We bottle our 100% blended bourbon 250 gallons at a time for a consistent flavor profile and quality taste. 

MASH BILL: 73%Corn / 20% Rye / 7% Malted Barley. We are considered a medium-high rye bourbon.

TASTING NOTES

APPEARANCE: Clear, Dark Mahogany- Pretzel.

AROMA: Maple Syrup, Caramel and Vanilla.

TASTE: Complex, grassy, slightly sweet with hints of spice that gives way to a light citrus fruit and a mild charred oak.

FINISH: A refined and lingering, honeycomb finish, with a mild hug!

When I first began playing guitar, I realized that if I could learn to play three basic chords — the roots of the blues — feel their meaning, and perfect their sound, I could have a career in music. I also recognized that the beauty of the perfect melody, the arrangement of those notes, and the vibrations of those tones, could impact one’s mood and elicit powerful emotions.

One night as I was sipping bourbon in my studio with friends, the conversation naturally turned to music, sound and composition. We began to wonder how blending the “tones” of various whiskeys together could create a unique “harmony” of flavor.

We knew bourbon’s role in Americana music and the American dream. We knew we loved it.  We knew that the blues and the “three chord” progression were a blank score that we could compose our own masterpiece with. Truth, heart, and integrity.

But we wanted to do more than just create another whiskey. We wanted to shake up the industry yet maintain respect for the tradition and legacy of heritage whiskeys. To look at the process differently. To create a taste profile comparable to the finest whiskeys in the world. To craft a new classic whiskey with the same precision and passion with which I create music. The product we created is Three Chord. The process with which it is created we call “Perfectly Tuned Taste.”

Our Tennessee Straight Whiskey is light yet flavorful, distilled and aged at least 36 months. Using the maple charcoal filtration process, we have refined the whiskey to a “Perfectly Tuned Taste.” Just as a three-chord progression is at the foundation of great music, Three Chord Tennessee Straight Whiskey is at the heart of a great spirit.
