Aged 20 years and finished in prized Mizunara Oak casks, it’s a whiskey to savor & cherish. In the pursuit of even rarer & more intense bourbon, Widow Jane unearths its oldest whiskey yet. Black Opal is an artful blend of rare whiskeys, each aged for a minimum of 20 years. This extraordinary marriage of bourbons takes on an extended finish in prized Mizunara Oak casks. Old growth trees are harvested, air-seasoned, & crafted into casks that receive a medium toast. Highly porous & low in tannins, this special Japanese oak imparts an intense & distinctive flavor on the bourbon. A deep aroma of molasses, root beer, & tobacco lays a foundation for notes of incense, smoldering wood, & toasted almond to shine through. We proof Black Opal with our own limestone water from The Legendary Rosendale Mines of NY. This hard-yet-sweet water delivers a lavish mouthfeel & long finish.

Maker Notes

There is no other word to describe this. We took some of our legendary 10 year old Bourbons & finished them in barrels that held New York’s finest artisanal maple syrup from Crown Maple. The result is a rich, creamy-smooth & slightly sweet mouthful of whiskey flavor that is way beyond good. It’s decadent.

Maker Notes

The whiskey aging process is influenced by time & place. Aren’t we lucky. These barrels have all been influenced by the greatly varying temperatures & humidity levels of their original source and their time in our rick house in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The different rick house positions combined with climate variations have led to subtle deviations in flavor, all coming together in a hyper small batches, little more than a handful of barrels at a time.

Aged for a minimum of thirteen years, non-chill filtered & proofed with our own limestone mineral water from the Legendary Rosendale Mines of NY, Lucky Thirteen is always a way to share good fortune.

Aroma: Vanilla Bean, Earl Grey Tea, Caramel & Sweet Tobacco

Taste: Pecan Pie, Whole Grain Toast, Grapefruit Peel

Paradigm Rye marries both their comprehensive access to whiskeys across state lines with spirit distilled in Red Hook blended with hand-selected rye whiskeys from Kentucky and Indiana to carry on the tradition of Widow Jane’s unusual Ryes that are both delicate yet a powerful base for classic cocktails. Our whiskeys are proofed with pure limestone mineral water from the Legendary Rosendale Mines of NY, just 100 miles north of our home in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

The Vaults is a limited release of our rarest & oldest bourbons. The whiskey was finished in casks from the Adirondacks in New York, where we found forty two months air seasoned white oak, fire bent and thoughtfully toasted, charred and raised into barrels, resulting in truly New York finish.

When rye comes off the still it is sweet, grassy, and floral. A traditional 'spicy characteristic all come from the barrel. With this whiskey, our goal was to lightly oak and round out the rye distillate in our once-used 10-year bourbon barrels with added fresh cut oak staves.

The result is an intense flavor balanced with warm spice.
This is a light, tropical 'summer rye and makes for some great cocktails. A good bitter, or a splash of vermouth or ginger beer goes a long way.

For our fourth Vaults project, we had the luxury of blending barrels from our stocks of up to 20 year old casks. The Vaults is a unique series: exceptional & mature whiskey, rebarrelled in new cooperage. When distillate is barreled, it is young and wild. After a decade and half, it is mellow and mature. Placing The Vaults blend in new oak polishes older whiskey in a surprising way. It enhances the intensity, richness, and depth of flavor, giving it that Widow Jane signature taste. 

An act of congress in 1964 established bourbon as our only true American Spirit. Combining Tennessee & Indiana bourbon, blended & finished in New York, rebarreled in wood from the Missouri Ozarks, this truly is an American Spirit. 

In the Vaults tradition, you’ll find sweet tobacco and leather, vanilla, sarsaparilla, unsweetened cinnamon and cocoa powder, along with a hint of a seasoned oak campfire. It is cut to proof using the water of the legendary Rosendale mines of New York State. This complimentary ingredient lends beautiful minerality and a finish that can only be Widow Jane.
