The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release Decade VI Scotch Whisky

The Macallan

750 ml | 43.7% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

The sixth decade of a collection celebrating The Six Decades of Bond.

DESCRIPTION

The collection is an exhibition of the most iconic moments across the Six Decades of Bond; each decade encapsulated on its own packaging. Bringing to life the innovations and inventions of James Bond across the years, the packaging has been colour washed with one of the trending colours of the decade it represents.

DECADE VI

In 2012 Skyfall brought the audience back to James Bond’s childhood home, but also tragically destroyed it. Daniel Craig’s performances endeared further notes of domesticity, deep love and family.

Making the character more relatable than ever, Craig reveals a vulnerable humanity at Bond’s core, without compromising any trademark resolve or physical capability.

The packaging design features childhood home Skyfall Lodge in Skyfall (2012), and a Day of the Dead poster from Spectre (2015).

ABOUT THE RELEASE

This exceptional single malt whisky has been created by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell to reflect the character of James Bond. A force of nature defined by his Scottish heritage, he carries himself with modesty and humility.

Like James Bond, the expression exudes a sense of style and maturity which has evolved over the years. The whisky is consistent within all six bottles.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Fresh and vibrant notes of lemon and lime, a sprinkle of sherbet, leading into a sweet vanilla and coconut, with a hint of dried fig and raisin.

PALATE: Orange zest and fizzy sherbet with a lemon freshness, gentle oak and subtle ginger spice, leading into a deep dark chocolate, figs and baked apple tart with a honey drizzle.

FINISH: Sweet and long with complexed layers.

COLOUR: Suisse (Swiss) gold

THE BOND ARCHIVE
The distinct range tells the story of innovation over 60 years and the pioneering character attributes of James Bond and The Macallan. James Bond is a modern innovator and man of perennial evolution. The Bond films have become closely associated with ingenious 007 gadgets that are used on his mission to deliver for the greater good; and have become a hallmark of the franchise’s popularity.

Decade VI explores the Bond innovations and archives of the 2010s. The pack design features a Day of The Dead poster from Spectre (2015) and a Skyfall Lodge illustration from Skyfall (2012).

The Day of the Dead poster calls back to the action packed opening sequence in Spectre. Instead of filming Mexico’s popular festival, the production created their own version, taking over Zocalo Square with over 1,500 extras.

Bruichladdich Octomore 14.1 Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bruichladdich

700 ml | 59.6% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

THE BACKBONE OF THE SERIES

The backbone of the 14th annual Octomore series, the character of the 14.1 offers a necessary comparison from which the other expressions alternate and evolve. The base for this latest series showcases the delicate and intricate balance between smoke, malt, cask and maturation – resulting in an all-encompassing drinking experience. Matured for five years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, the 14.1 shows the power and potential of its essential raw ingredients. Sweet caramel and vanilla open on the nose, with bright citrus cutting through Octomore’s signature smoke - elevated with roasted coffee and subtle spice.

Distilled from 100% Scottish mainland barley and peated to 128.9 PPM, Octomore 14.1 is as youthful and dynamic as its predecessors.

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Light Amber

NOSE: Smoked vanilla, sweet caramel, and toffee notes open on the nose, with sooty smoke balanced with delicate coconut and flaked almonds. There is an unmistakable earthy smokiness and a hint of citrus, with lemon meringue pie cutting through rich barbeque pork.

PALATE: Bright citrus, smoke and a distinct minerality come through on the palate, followed by charred oak and beach bonfire embers. Toffee and creamy vanilla are balanced with the earthy smoke, with bright notes of pear, gooseberry fool and green apple simultaneously adding brightness and depth. Roasted coffee, hints of clove and nutmeg begin to come to the fore, with a gentle hint of heather honey.

FINISH: Butterscotch and vanilla are balanced with Octomore’s signature earthy peat smoke and a hint of salt spray, with burnt heather and gorse flowers settling on the finish.

Octomore 14.2 uses the same barley varietal and is malted to the same PPM as the 14.1, but the liquids diverge profoundly with the influence of wine and sherry casks on the 14.2 spirit.

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Deep Amber

NOSE: Leather, prunes, red currants and malted barley come to the fore, followed by toasted oak and hints of cinnamon, green apple and black pepper. Waves of smoke and distinct red fruits follow, complemented with cereal notes of malt and porridge. The peat smoke is dry and brooding, with a hint of burnt heather and subtle pipe tobacco from the oak.

PALATE: The influence of the European oak is unmissable, with a touch of dryness balanced with the vibrancy of wood spices, smoked oak and roasted coffee. Barbeque sweetness and a crack of black pepper is complemented with rich fruit cake and dried fruits. A drop of water opens the smoke and fruity sweetness from the wine casks, bringing a beautiful balance as notes of apple and pear grow with the dram.

FINISH: Smoked malt, smouldering oak and sea salt settle on the finish.

Rare Find X Bunnahabhain 40 year cask strength single malt Scotch Whiskey

Rare Find Whisky

750 ml | 45.2% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

Nestled on the remote northeastern coast of the Scottish island of Islay, Bunnahabhain Distillery has long been revered for its exceptional Scotch whiskies. Among its remarkable offerings, the Bunnahabhain 40 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt stands out as an emblem of unparalleled quality and distinction.

The Age of Mastery: 40 Years in the Making
Bunnahabhain, known for its commitment to age its whiskies to perfection, has truly outdone itself with this exceptional release. Distilled and laid down in oak casks four decades ago, the Bunnahabhain 40 Year Old has been nurtured over time, absorbing the nuances of its surroundings and developing a character that's both complex and refined.

Cask Strength: A Bold Statement of Authenticity
This particular expression is bottled at cask strength, without the addition of water to dilute its intensity. This means that the whisky retains its full, undiluted character, offering a tasting experience that is both intense and richly flavored. With an alcohol content that can vary from batch to batch, this unapologetic approach to bottling truly showcases the raw essence of the spirit.

Appearance: Aged Elegance
The Bunnahabhain 40 Year Old displays a deep, rich amber hue in the glass, a testament to its four decades of maturation in carefully selected oak casks. Swirling it in your glass reveals thick, slow legs, hinting at the whisky's impressive viscosity and concentration.

Aroma: An Olfactory Symphony
Upon nosing, this venerable Scotch whisky offers a harmonious blend of aromas that captivate the senses. The initial notes are subtle, with hints of oak and vanilla, followed by layers of dried fruits, toffee, and a gentle wisp of coastal brine. The peat smoke, a hallmark of Islay whiskies, is remarkably restrained here, allowing the other complex elements to shine.

Palate: Complexity Unveiled
As the liquid touches your lips, the depth and complexity of the Bunnahabhain 40 Year Old truly come to life. The palate is a journey through time and flavor, with flavors of dark chocolate, marmalade, leather, and a whisper of spice intermingling with the soft, creamy texture. Each sip is a testament to the skill and patience of the distillers who have shepherded this whisky to perfection over the decades.

Finish: Lingering Elegance
The finish of this magnificent single malt is long and graceful, slowly tapering off with a subtle warmth that leaves you yearning for another sip. It's a remarkable whisky that rewards contemplation and demands appreciation.

The Last Drop Double Matured 50 Year Old Scotch Whisky

The Last Drop

750 ml | 51.8% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

Maker Notes

This elegant and complex whisky was initially created from more than fifty different Scotch whiskies, as a superb example of the blender’s art. Initially blended as an ultra-premium 30 year old for the burgeoning market in the Far East, once the initial bottling had been completed, a precious remnant was transferred into seven Spanish Hogshead casks that had previously held Oloroso sherry, and returned to a traditional warehouse in the Lowlands of Scotland. There it began its second maturation, which lasted a further 20 years until we bottled it in late 2015.

Over the course of this slow process of ageing, the whisky developed extraordinary richness and depth of flavour, taking on character traits from both woods – stone-fruit and honey from the Bourbon wood, and a rich, spicy quality from the Sherry wood – for an effect we call ‘double matured.’ It is an exceptional 50 year old whisky, complex, multi-layered and truly delicious.

MARTIN EBER’S (TIME FOR WHISKY) TASTING NOTES

Spice. Passionfruit and pineapple. Coke bottle lollies again. The oak is still in perfect balance, and the whisky feels like it could have many years still to go. A few drops of water amps up the sherry (adding mocha/milk chocolate notes, and some leather), and tones down the fruitier notes. There’s the tiniest hint of smoke too. The finish is long, with milk chocolate, coffee and leather.

Rating: 95/100. Just incredible. I love a well-aged ex-Bourbon whisky, for the big tropical fruit notes, and I love a well-aged, heavily sherried whisky for the “Christmas cake” notes. This has both. In spades. A stunning achievement and yet still such a vibrant whisky. It’s only February but I suspect this will be one of the highlight tastings of the year for us.

The Last Drop

750 ml | 50.2% ABV

Maker Notes

This remarkable release comprises two Single Casks, both filled in 1968. These Glenrothes Single Malt Scotch Whiskies have spent their entire lives – nearly 50 years – maturing in the same oak casks.

The relationship between this individual cask, the distillate and the surrounding air, brings about a marvellous kind of alchemy; each cask yields a whisky that is slightly different from those around it. Thus, despite being distilled on the same day in November 1968, our two casks display distinct differences, whilst sharing characteristics of the Glenrothes distilling style – famously laden with ripe fruits, juicy citrus, creamy vanilla and hints of exotic spice.

This duo represents our first Glenrothes Single Malt release. Two more releases from 1969 and 1970 – each also comprising slightly different Single Casks – followed in 2019 and 2020, thereby completing a unique Glenrothes trilogy of wonderful whiskies.

CHARLES MACLEAN’S TASTING NOTES – CASK NO. 13504

Amber with long-lingering beading. A mellow nosefeel, with slight prickle after a while. The highly perfumed initial aroma – scented hand-cream, attar of roses, carnations – reduces in time, infused by notes of almond oil and oak shavings, with a trace of vanilla. A drop of water enhances the wood notes. A smooth texture and a sweet taste, drying in the spicy finish, with a suggestion of Friar’s Balsam medicine and a cooling mentholic aftertaste.

CHARLES MACLEAN’S TASTING NOTES – CASK NO. 13508

18 carat gold in colour surprisingly good beading for its strength. A slight prickle on the nose and a complex, mellow aroma which is at once fruity and herbal – crystallised greengages, dusty dried mixed herbs – with an elusive whiff of scented smoke, a trace of cigar boxes and after a while a hint of candlewax. The texture is oily and the taste sweet and centre palate, with some salinity and peppery spice in the long warming finish and a slightly mentholic aftertaste.

Maker Notes

On 6th December 1970, three single casks were filled with Glenrothes Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Over the following half-century, that Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured undisturbed in those self-same barrels.

The relationship between each individual cask, the distillate and the surrounding air brings about a marvellous alchemy; each cask yields a whisky that is slightly different from those around it. To celebrate the differences in personality between individual casks, we have therefore chosen to bottle each of these “sibling casks” separately.

MARK GILLESPIE OF WHISKYCAST’S TASTING NOTES – CASK NO. 10586:

The nose is malty with gentle kisses of peat smoke, vanilla beans, dark chocolate, and touches of dried apricots, mango, and papaya. The taste starts off light and fruity at first, followed by a nice balance of spices, barley sugar, and a hint of smoke. The finish has a whiff of peat smoke, along with chocolate and a lingering touch of spices. Overall, it’s luscious and vibrant with a gentle smokiness. (96 Points)

CASK NO. 10588:

The nose is rich with orange marmalade and notes of vanilla beans, Manuka honey, a touch of smoke, and a good maltiness. The taste can be described in one word – wow! There is a great fruity character with apricots and orange peel balanced by touches of oak tannins, vanilla beans, barley sugar, and a hint of spice that lasts through the long finish along with touches of tropical fruits and a hint of oak.
