PaQuí Silvera Tequila Tasting Notes

Nose: Big fruity aroma of sweet agave. Notes of citrus, jasmine, and fresh green grass. Complex and inviting.

Palate: A rush of sweet agave with floral, grassy aromas, and sweet agave fruit upfront followed by vanilla, white pepper, and other herbal undertones including lemon and honeysuckle. Complex, smooth, and round with some minerality. Lively and subtly spicy upfront but finishes with gently lingering flavors and a soft, smooth finish.

Finish: Finishes silky and soft with a slight spice finish.

In 1872, Benjamin and Eduardo Camp moved from Spain to Cuba, founding the Matusalem Rum Distillery in Santiago de Cuba. With decades of experience in distillation, solera aging, and blending Spanish brandy, they established a renowned rum brand. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the distillery relocated to the Dominican Republic. Today, it maintains the original recipes and techniques, including solera aging for their Ron Matusalem 18 Year Old Gran Reserva Rum. This process, traditionally used for aging cognacs and sherries, involves continuously blending rums of different ages, resulting in a progressively complex flavor profile.

Etsu Double Orange and Etsu Double Yuzu Gin are distilled at the Akita Distillery, in the Akita prefecture of Japan in the Honshu Island. Akita Prefecture is located on the coast of the Sea of Japan and extends east to the Ōu Mountains, the longest mountain range in Japan. It is these mountains that Etsu Double Orange and Etsu Double Yuzu take their fresh and light aromas from. Etsu Double Orange Gin and Etsu Double Yuzu have been macerated for seven days using traditional botanicals. After maceration, only the gin is distilled without the botanicals, which allows the oils to infuse. Only after the distillation process is fresh water from the mountain source added, which gives these gin their fresh taste.

Palate: The strong dried and confit aromas of the nose are intensified on the palate and accompanied by the sweet note of tonka bean. This rhum is characterized by extreme depth and volume throughout and the finish is long and enveloping.

Established in 1950 by Don Alfonso Jiménez Rosales, a Herradura co-founder, Caballito Cerrero is among the oldest Tequila brands no longer classified as Tequila under the NOM. Now known as "Destilado de Agave," it uses agave chato, a precursor to blue agave. Run by generations of Tequila experts at Santa Rita Distillery, it's admired by newer Tequila enthusiasts. For over a decade, Jacob Lustig managed the tequila and mezcal portfolio of the largest liquor distributor in the United States. Lustig has had a lifetime of experience in the tequila industry: as a child, his family moved back and forth between San Francisco and Oaxaca, Mexico. Later, as a student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Lustig studied the history of the Mexican liquor business. "My passion for nuanced and unique agave spirits began in southern Mexico during the early 1990s," says Jacob, "when I renovated a centuries-old Oaxacan mezcal distillery after concluding an intensive study of regional mezcal distillation and its myriad production configurables." As the manager of a tequila and mezcal portfolio, "I was able to work closely with over forty of Jalisco's finest tequila distilleries." Seleccin ArteNOM Tequila is the first and only company authorized by the Tequila Regulatory Council to bottle tequilas from different distilleries and release them under a single brand name. "A prevailing regulation in the tequila industry specifically prohibits the bottling of any brand in multiple locations, in order to assure aficionados consistent flavor and quality in their preferred mark," says Jacob, but after years of working with the Tequila Regulatory Council, Jacob was granted permission. Gratefully, the Seleccin ArteNOM Tequilas are now being applauded in both Mexico and the United States. ArteNOM Seleccion de 1414 Tequila Reposado is produced in Arandas, Jalisco (elevation: 5,400 feet) by master distiller Jos Manuel Vivanco at the Destileria El Ranchito. Vivanco is a fourth generation distiller his great, great grandfather began cultivating agave in the highlands of Jalisco just after the Mexican Revolution. Vivanco ferments his estate-grown agave using a natural indigenous-yeast that is found in and around his distillery. After twice-distilling the agave, Vivanco ages the tequila for four months in white American oak casks that were previously used to age bourbon. Seleccion de 1414 Tequila Reposado has notes of mature agave and banana bread, followed by a long, smooth finish with notes of honey, citrus and vanilla. Seleccin ArteNOM Tequila is the only project of its kind.
