This beautifully complex 30 years old single malt is a tale of two worlds. With respect for the past and a passion for the future, our 30 years old single malt brings together the old and the new. In 2019, when the distillery met its new owners, some of our precious 30 years old spirit was taken and filled into new, specially selected European Oak sherry casks where it continued its maturation for a further year. It was then carefully blended with spirit that had slumbered for all three decades in the original wood. New ownership, new Whisky Maker, new wood, 30 years old casks and aged spirit all combine to create this luxuriant single malt.

Introducing the fifth chapter of the Midleton Very Rare Dair Ghaelach series—Midleton Very Rare Dair Ghaelach Kilranelagh Wood. Once again, the rarity of Midleton Very Rare meets the luxury of Irish oak to bring you an exceptional offering from the pinnacle of Irish whiskey.  

This release takes us to Kilranelagh Estate near Baltinglass, County Wicklow. Situated amid rolling hills and picturesque features, the native Irish woodland on the estate has been managed carefully and in tune with nature by one family, the Westerholt for many years. When their great Irish oak had reached the end of their life cycle and were ready to be felled so the new oak could grow in their place, they knew they wanted their legacy to live on—and Midleton Very Rare Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman knew that he had the perfect whiskey which would bring new life to these relics of a time gone by through finishing in this Irish oak.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Forest notes of fresh pine accompanied by floral honey and ground pepper at first, while sweet and tropical fruits can be detected amongst the herbal green tea and freshly mown hay. The use of the native Irish oak lends itself to creating distinctive aromas of smoked almonds with sweet vanilla and cinnamon that are complimented by the pot still savoury spices.

Taste: Robust and lively at first with notes of dried chilli flakes and red bell peppers which quickly soften, allowing notes of candied orange and crisp red apple to shine through. The oak continues to deliver sweet vanilla and cinnamon spice throughout, while the pot still spices add a hearty and full-bodied nature to this complex and intricate whiskey.

Finish: Wonderfully long finish which sees the pot still spices and oak linger, almost effortlessly, for an age.

WhistlePig Double Malt Rye is our oldest Rye, patiently mellowed for 18 years. Before industrial distillation, America’s original farmers would malt a small portion of their grain to start fermentation, the essential step that turns water and rye into glorious whiskey. As a nod to the farmers, Double Malt Rye is crafted from a mash bill of Rye, Malted Rye and Malted Barley. History aside, these grains unite in a show-stopping Rye Whiskey that stretches far and wide across the flavor spectrum. Its base of 79% Rye delivers bold, peppery spice, while 15% Malted Rye adds soft, floral and earthy character. A final 6% of malted barley brings rich, sweet, toasted notes.

A premium rye whiskey that is handcrafted in Newport, Kentucky. The distillery is known for its commitment to traditional techniques and high-quality ingredients, and this rye whiskey is no exception.

Like the bourbon whiskey, this rye whiskey is also a single barrel expression, meaning that each bottle comes from a single barrel that has been carefully selected and aged for a minimum of four years. The barrels used are made from new charred oak, which imparts rich flavors and aromas to the whiskey.

New Riff Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey has a deep amber color and a complex flavor profile. On the nose, there are notes of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, as well as hints of vanilla and caramel. The palate is spicy and full-bodied, with flavors of black pepper, tobacco, and dark fruit. The finish is long and warming, with a touch of sweetness that lingers on the tongue.

This rye whiskey is bottled at cask strength, which means that it is not diluted before bottling and has a higher alcohol content than many other rye whiskeys. This gives it a powerful, intense flavor that is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open up the flavors.

A premium mezcal that is handcrafted in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. The mezcal is made from agave Espadin, which is harvested by hand and roasted in an underground pit oven, or "palenque," using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations.

Once the agave is roasted, it is crushed by a horse-drawn tahona, which is a large stone wheel that is used to extract the juice from the agave fibers. The juice is then fermented in open-air vats using wild yeast, which gives the mezcal its unique flavor profile.

Del Maguey San Jose Rio Minas Mezcal has a smoky, complex flavor profile that is typical of artisanal mezcal. On the nose, there are notes of roasted agave, smoke, and citrus, as well as hints of vanilla and caramel. The palate is bold and smoky, with flavors of charred wood, black pepper, and a touch of sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with a pleasant smokiness that lingers on the tongue.

This mezcal is bottled at 48% ABV, which gives it a powerful, intense flavor that is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open up the flavors. It is a sipping mezcal that is meant to be enjoyed slowly, allowing the flavors to develop and evolve over time.

Devils River Barrel Strength Texas Bourbon Whiskey is the barrel strength, 117-proof entry in their lineup of whiskey. It's Devils River bringing you bourbon the way it was drunk originally, just like the pioneers would have it uncut and straight from the barrel. Its mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% barley makes for a bold, yet smooth sipper. Since Master Blender John Rhea took the reins at Kentucky Owl in 2021, the brand has been on a mission to prove itself. For Batch #12, Rhea expertly combines 7-to-14-year-old bourbons with two distinct four-year-old bourbons. While concerns may arise about the younger spirits overshadowing the older ones, once the bottle is opened, those worries dissipate.

As the bourbon cascades into the glass, a captivating medley of aromas fills the air—sweet cornbread, nutmeg, brown sugar, and a subtle nuttiness. Soon, notes of figs and orange blossom join the ensemble, accompanied by hints of wet newspaper and lipstick. On the palate, flavors of cornbread, butterscotch, and baking spice emerge, along with a tantalizing hint of strawberry licorice reminiscent of Twizzlers candy. This fleeting sensation teases the tongue before giving way to the aforementioned robust flavors.

Despite the initial promise of the aroma, the mouthfeel remains moderate, and the midpalate seems somewhat muted, preventing the well-developed flavors from fully reaching their potential.

The history of Johnnie Walker Swing dates back to the early 1930s when Sir Alexander Walker, the grandson of the brand's founder, was inspired by the elegant and rhythmic motion of a swinging golf club. He sought to create a whisky that embodied the same smoothness and flow as a golf swing, leading to the birth of Johnnie Walker Swing.

As with many other Johnnie Walker expressions, the Swing whisky comes in different variants to cater to various markets and preferences. While the core blend remains consistent, some limited editions or regional releases may offer unique twists on the classic recipe.

About the Brand

In 1862, Dupré Barbancourt founded a rum distillery in Haiti bearing his name. He applied the traditional French distillation method to sugar cane juice and the aging process in oak barrels from Limousin, as practiced in the production of cognac in his native Charente. The grand specificity of Rhum Barbancourt comes from its use of sugar cane juice (excluding molasses, a residue from the sugar-refining process which is used by other rums from the region). Sugar cane juice has a much richer flavor (wider diversity of aromas) than molasses, and that difference in the raw material distilled translates in the taste of the distilled rum.

To ensure freshness, sugar canes harvested from a 600-hectare plantation are delivered directly to the distillery. Half of it (those growing in fields around or close to the distillery) reach it by mules only. The other half (coming from other parts of the islands) are transported by mules to the tractor, then on the tractor cart to the distillery. The canes are immediately crushed to obtain sugar cane juice, called vesou. This juice is then fermented with an exclusive Barbancourt yeast that brings out fruity aromas. After distillation, the resulting rum is then left to age in oak barrels.

The Barbancourt Estate Reserve is made from pure sugar case juice, distilled and aged in French Oak barrels for 15 years. Once intended for the Gardere family, it is released each year in limited quantities to the public since 1960.
