In the 18th century, a Swiss Mennonite farmer by the name of John Shenk settled his family near Pennsylvania's Blue Mountain Valley. After a few years of hard work and long hours, Shenk was harvesting more grains that he could sell at the local market. As a result, Shenk purchased a still and began distilling the excess grains he harvested into whiskey. His distillery, which was eventually named Michter's, became the United States first distilling company. The passage of Prohibition in 1919 forced Michter's, along with nearly every other distillery in the United States, to close. In the early 1990s, however, Joseph J. Magliocco teamed up with Richard Newman in an effort to resurrect the brand. When we set up our whiskey program for Michter's, says Magliocco, Dick and I wanted to get back to the cost be damned roots and produce the finest whiskey possible. Our goal was to show that whiskey made in the United States could be the equal of great whiskey made anywhere in the world. Michter's award-winning US1 Sour Mash Whiskey is the cornerstone of this Toasted Barrel Sour Mash Whiskey, made by taking Michter's US1 Sour Mash Whiskey and aging it for an additional period of time in a secondary bespoke barrel. This custom made barrel is assembled from 18-month air-dried wood before being toasted (not charred). Several different levels of toast were carefully evaluated for the second barrel before the Michter's production team led by Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson decided on the final bespoke cask that would best display the elegant nuances of this special whiskey. Heaven Hill distillery was founded in 1935, immediately after Prohibition ended in the United States in 1933, after a group of investors decided to be ready for the rebounding market. The investors including the famous Joseph L. Beam. Heaven Hill is located on a massive estate boasting 22 multi-story rick-houses across hundreds of acres of land. Now known as the Heaven Hill Bernheim Distillery they have the second-largest inventory of Bourbon Whiskey in the world. It is also the only remaining family-owned distillery in Kentucky. After retiring their hallmark 6-year-old bourbon, on June 24, 2019 Heaven Hill launched this 7-year-old Bottled-in-Bond flagship bourbon. RUSSELL’S RESERVE SINGLE RICKHOUSE

Inspired by the unique conditions of the rickhouses at the Wild Turkey Distilling Co, the Russell Family proudly introduce the Single Rickhouse collection, featuring a limited release of liquid from a single rickhouse. This collection explores the often unsung contributions specific resting places have on a whiskey’s final character, celebrating varied nuances of whiskey aging across these different environments.

The inaugural release, Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse from Camp Nelson C is bottled from a small batch of just 72 barrels. Aged on the optimal center cut floors 3 and 4, bottled at 112.4 barrel proof, and non-chill filtered, this rich and decadent bourbon delivers a rich, unexpected blend of flavors that captures the essence and spirit of its roots. Camp Nelson C has since been dismantled – making this unique bottling truly one of a kind.

TASTING NOTES

COLOR: Rich, dark amber

AROMA: Vanilla, caramel and cream that transition to fresh and dried fruit and then notes of brown sugar, oak and char.

TASTE: Thick and rich introduction with notes of toffee, coconut and vanilla that transition to notes of apple, dried fruit, toasted pecan, chocolate and baking spices.

FINISH: Long finish with silky mouthcoating that transitions to a pleasant balance of oak, baking spices and rich sweetness.

STOLEN American Whiskey begins with a mature 11-year-old whiskey. Ever insatiable, STOLEN tapped into industry experts by adding a layer of artistry rooted in extracting staves from ex-whiskey barrels and toasting them in a 360-degree rotation over an oak wood fire. Turning the staves at key points during the toast allowed STOLEN to capture richly nuanced flavors across the entire wood gradient, resulting in a smoky consistency for every barrel stave. To impart these fire roasted notes into the whiskey, STOLEN employs a secondary, barrel-finishing process where the juice is continually analyzed for taste and nosed for aroma until it peaks in boldness resulting in an additional layer of finished flavor complexity that differentiates STOLEN Whiskey from other traditional American whiskies and bourbons. On the nose is a roasted coffee bouquet that enhances dark fruits and lingers through an exceptionally long finish. On the palate, natural flavors of toasted caramel, dark molasses and smoky chocolate mingle. STOLEN Whiskey's initial buttery mouthfeel ultimately balances out a bold and lasting finish.

Following the end of the American Revolutionary War, Johannes Reginald Beam emigrated from Germany to the United States, and eventually settled in Kentucky County. At the time, Kentucky County was still considered part of Virginia, and was overseen by a military governor named John J. Bowman. In order to encourage westward expansion, Virginia issued pioneers who agreed to settle in Kentucky County corn writs, which granted the pioneers 60 acres of land if they agreed to settle in Kentucky and start farming corn. After settling in Kentucky, Beam began harvesting corn and set forth a family tradition by distilling the excess grains he harvested into whiskey. Since then, seven generations of the Beam family have been involved in whiskey production for the eponymous company (the company is actually named after James Beam, who rescued it following Prohibition). Today, Fred Noe a seventh generation master distiller and the great-grandson of Colonel James B. Beam shepherds his family legacy forward. TASTING NOTES 

Nose: Cherry sawdust, warm pine pitch and marsh grass. A nose that is light and sunny. Closer to warm lakeside days than cold forest nights. The aroma hits with high summer energy and optimism making it unique compared to other McCarthys expressions.

Palate: Light and juicy with a good deal of burned sugar and citrus. Back flavors of salt brine and sea spray make this the whiskey version of camping on the Oregon coast. To others it’s as comforting as early morning diners and French toast with coffee. The addition of an ice cube exposes the whiskey’s sweeter tones. With a baseline of sarsaparilla root and chicory, the higher tones of toasted cereal grain, orange peel and maple syrup definitely shine.
