Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy Bourbon Cask Irish Whiskey

Midleton

750 ml | 45% ABV
Whiskey | Irish

Midleton, the brand name synonymous with the annual vintage release of Midleton Very Rare and with the limited releases of Midleton Single Pot Still Whiskeys, added its first permanent Single Pot Still Whiskey to its range in 2011.

Bearing the name of the celebrated second generation Midleton Master Distiller, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy represents a selection of pot still whiskeys which have been matured exclusively in American bourbon barrels with a subtle contribution from a pot still distillate which has matured in an unseasoned American barrel.

This pinnacle of the Single Pot Still range, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy, marked the first time since John Jameson that an Irish Distillers product had been named after a Master Distiller. Single Pot Still whiskey is unique to Ireland in general and to the Midleton Distillery, Co. Cork, in particular, and is regarded as the quintessential style of Irish whiskey. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills, Pot Still whiskeys are characterised by full, complex flavours and a wonderful, creamy mouthfeel.

As a tribute to the man who is inextricably linked to the Midleton distillery and who has more than anyone, shaped the renowned Midleton style, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy displays a distinctive Pot Still complexity yet is refined and poised on the finish.

With over 30 illustrious awards received to date, this is a whiskey that truly embodies its name. In 2016 it was named the Best Irish Blended Pot Still Whiskey at The Irish Whiskey Awards

Yellow Spot 12 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Spot Whiskey

750 ml | 46% ABV
Whiskey | Irish

In 1805, the Mitchell & Sons Wine Merchants Company was established in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. By the turn of the 19th century, the Mitchells sold a range of Irish whiskeys under the name "Spot." This name originated from the company's practice of marking casks of different ages with a spot of colored paint. As a result, Mitchell & Sons sold whiskies named Blue Spot, Green Spot, Red Spot and finally Yellow Spot, which was last seen in the mid-to-late 1960s. Today, Yellow Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey continues to be crafted in the heart of Ireland. The whiskey is made from malted and unmalted barley, which are milled and mashed before being triple-distilled through a traditional pot still. Following distillation, the whiskey is matured for 12 years the Yellow Spot brand was always aged for this amount of time in a combination of American Bourbon casks, Spanish sherry butts and Spanish Malaga casks. The inclusion of the single pot still spirit aged in Spanish Malaga casks gives Yellow Spot its famously sweet character. After the various casks have been blended together, Yellow Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is bottled at 92 proof, just a bit higher than other traditional Irish whiskies which are bottled at 90 proof. "Pot Still Whiskeys define the traditional flavor character of Irish whiskey and we have seen a renewed interest and growth in the category over the last few years," says Brian Nation, the master distiller at Midleton Distillery, which makes Yellow Spot Whiskey. Yellow Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has an aroma of red bell peppers, nutmeg, green tea and sweet peaches from the Malaga casks. On the palate, there is a honey sweetness accented by cloves, baked apples, milk chocolate, coffee and creme brulee. The finish is dry and complex, with notes of toasted oak, red grapes and barley. Yellow Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey was released in the United States in 2015 in extremely limited quantities. The whiskey was named Irish Whiskey of the Year by Whisky Advocate in 2016, in addition to winning Gold in the Wizards of Whiskey competition that same year.

Tullamore DEW 15 Year Old Trilogy Small Batch Irish Whiskey

Tullamore DEW

750 ml | 40% ABV
Whiskey | Irish

Situated in the Midlands region of Ireland, the city of Tullamore was ruled for centuries by Clan O'Molloy. On May 10, 1785, a hot air balloon crashed into the city and began a fire that destroyed over 100 homes, making Tullamore the site of the world's first known aviation disaster. Following the accident, the city adopted a phoenix (a phoenix is a mythological Greek bird that is reborn after it dies) rising from the ashes as its coat of arms, a symbol of its resilience and recovery. Tullamore DEW Distillery was founded within 50 years of the accident, and is situated at the very site where the hot air balloon struck a smoking chimney, which started the fire. Tullamore DEW Irish Whiskey is made from three different grains, including malted barley, unmalted barley and corn. Once the grains are harvested, they are milled and mashed with hot water before being fermented in wooden washbacks. During fermentation, the grains' sugars are converted into alcohol, creating a strong yet sour beer called wash. The wash is then triple distilled through three copper-pot stills: a wash still, a low wines still and a pot still. Through each distillation process, the alcohol content and flavors of the whiskey are intensified. Following distillation, Tullamore DEW Trilogy Irish Whiskey is aged for 15 years in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-Oloroso Sherry and special ex-rum casks, making this both the oldest whiskey ever released by Tullamore DEW and the first time the distillery has used rum casks in such a way. As a result, Tullamore DEW Trilogy has a rich aroma filled with tropical fruits, mixed nuts, tannins and oak. The palate transitions to flavors of chocolate fudge and whipped cream, and leads to an incredibly long and intense finish. Tullamore DEW Trilogy Irish Whiskey shows the power of three in many ways three generations of the Williams family, three types of Irish whiskey (malted barley, unmalted barley and grain), the distinctly Irish process of triple-distillation, the unique crafts of distillation, blending and maturation, and aging in three different types of casks.
