Exclave Spirits was created to pay homage to the lost stories and contributions of Black people who have advanced distilled spirits. 

Black has been synonymous with cool for a long time, but now it’s time to write our story. Too often our stories are marginalized, if recognized at all. In recognizing this, Exclave exists to counter this tendency. Eschewing what has been previously written, opting instead for autonomy over our narratives. Ones that embrace pain and celebrate victory. Ones that fundamentally understand the role our history, both in this country and throughout the Diaspora, plays in our lives today. 

As we embark on this journey 3 principles are essential to Exclave: Authenticity, Freedom, and Self-Determination. 

With every product we release we explore the intersections of these concepts. Interrogating what they meant not only the vanguard of Black distillers who have laid the foundation we now stand upon, but for ourselves as we collectively determine a future that centers a Blackness that is vibrant, triumphant, and liberated.

Exclave Rye is a powerful blend of 51% rye 49% mash aged in new American white oak barrels to produce a rich whiskey that embodies the skill and sophistication of Black American spirits producers.

Milam & Greene Whiskey is made by some of the world’s most experienced whiskey professionals, including CEO, master blender, and author, Heather Greene and 30-year whiskey veteran and master distiller, Marlene Holmes. The Milam & Greene team distills in Blanco, Texas on copper pot stills as well as in Kentucky on classic column stills, using its proprietary yeast recipe and mash bill. Aging takes place in rickhouses located across four states in casks with an assortment of char levels for a variety of flavors resulting in the most thorough array of casks made and collected by any craft distiller. These casks become the ingredients from which its award-winning American whiskey range is batched to create perfection. Milam & Greene Whiskey believes in using the best people and ingredients to create delicious, award-winning whiskey for whiskey lovers.

STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY FINISHED IN PORT WINE CASKS

Indiana Rye whiskey is brought to Texas where we batch it in our warehouse and finish it in old Port Wine Casks. The Texan sun influences the rate and strength of flavor imparted into the whiskey. Some casks take longer than others. The team tastes the whiskey finishing in the Port Wine Casks regularly until the optimal flavors are achieved. Casks are then batched together, tested regularly and proofed before bottling.

After serving in World War II as a Radar Bombardier, Elmer T. Lee returned to his home in Kentucky and earned his engineering degree from the University of Kentucky.  He joined the distillery in the late 1940’s as a maintenance engineer.  He first interviewed with Colonel Blanton who famously rejected him by saying, “Son, we’re not hiring any hands today”. Fortunately, Colonel Blanton changed his mind and Elmer T. Lee started working the following week.

His genius for bourbon production propelled his rise from Maintenance Engineer to Plant Engineer, where he was eventually promoted to Plant Superintendent.  From there he earned the shared title of Plant Manager and Master Distiller where he oversaw much of the distillery’s modernization and growth until he retired in 1985.  

After retiring Mr. Lee served as Master Distiller Emeritus and Ambassador for Buffalo Trace Distillery. He was inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2002 he received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Whisky Advocate, and again from Whisky Magazine in 2012. In 2013 Elmer passed away, leaving behind a prolific legacy of creativity and exploration that helped shape the Bourbon Industry into what it is today.

Aged in New American Oak barrels and made from Blue Corn. We combine a unique set of ingredients to achieve this lavishly rich bourbon.

A limited-edition bottling of Johnnie Walker Blue Label celebrating Chinese New Year and the Year of the Ox. The bottle features artwork from award-winning artist Shirley Gong, with the ox symbolising prosperity, growth and good fortune.

Furthur Bourbon combines MGP High Rye Bourbon aged for 3 and 5 years, which is then matured in newly charred American Oak barrels with a capacity of 53 gallons. It is distilled at MGP in Lawrenceburg, IN and bottled at 101 Proof in Pebbroke, KY. The bourbon is non-chill filtered and has a mash bill consisting of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% barley.

Four Super Bowl victories was no ordinary feat, but then Terry Bradshaw was no ordinary player. So, it makes sense that Terry Bradshaw Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is anything but ordinary. The Paul John range of single malt whiskies, produced by John Distilleries in Goa, India, marks a significant venture into the world of premium spirits for a company that has already made a notable impact in the Indian molasses 'whisky' market.

Brilliance, a member of this range, is crafted using Indian 6-row barley sourced from the Himalayan foothills. After careful distillation, the whisky is matured in bourbon barrels for a period of 3-5 years before it is bottled at its natural cask strength. Despite the tropical climate's influence on evaporation, resulting in approximately 12-13% loss per year, the whiskies from Paul John demonstrate exceptional quality even at a younger age, much like their counterparts from the renowned Amrut distillery

About the Brand

Tobermory, the capital of Mull, lies towards the northern end of the island. The bay is one of the safest anchorages in the Hebrides, indeed the original name for the area was Ledaig (pronounced Led-chig) from the Gaelic, meaning 'safe haven'. This made it the ideal place for the fishing town which was established there in 1788. The name of the town 'Tobermory' was derived from the Gaelic tobar mhoire, which means 'well of Mary', and relates to the well and chapel of St Mary built for the community. As well as Tobermory, the distillery also makes Ledaig single malt. The main difference between the two is that Tobermory is lightly peated and Ledaig is quite heavily peated. In 1797, a local merchant by the name of John Sinclair filed an application to build a distillery but was refused. Permission was finally granted the following year for Sinclair to proceed and Tobermory Distillery was founded. Today, Tobermory Distillery is one of Scotland's oldest operational malt whisky distilleries celebrating its 200th anniversary in 1998. The water source for the distillery is a privately owned Loch close by the Mishnish Lochs, high in hills behind the town. The water from the Loch is richly aromatic with peaty phenols that lend impart a subtle flavor to the whisky. Due to the water's character, the barley malt used remains unpeated. The aging process now takes place at Tobermory’s sister distillery Deanston, near Doune, for a minimum of ten years. This change of location induces further complexities in the final blending. The result is a fresh, lightly peated whisky, medium-dry with a smooth and fruity taste.

Tobermory 21 Year Old

A 21-year-old single malt from Tobermory distillery that has been finished for three years in an oloroso sherry butt, imparting rich, sweet aromas of clove-studded oranges, dark chocolate, vanilla, and oak that fill the nose. The palate offers notes of prunes, walnuts, dark chocolate, nutmeg, and Caramac bars, with hints of cinnamon and leather lingering in the finish.

Another distillery in the new-school 1960s whisky-boom era, Glenallachie Distillery was built in 1967 with a view to producing spirit for blending. Traditionally it has always produced a malty spirit, reasonably light in character; however a recent change in ownership has seen changes to production methods, particularly lengthened fermentation, which will see Glenallachie’s profile change in the coming year. Consequently the latter vintages, which are really quite rare as single malt bottlings, will eventually be no more.
