Founded in 1824 on its site in central Speyside, near Elgin, Miltonduff is one of the many distilleries that illicitly produced spirit before its founding date, and took advantage of the passing of the Excise Act.

Traditionally both ‘Miltonduff’ and ‘Mosstowie’ spirits have been produced here, the latter being a variant of single malt produced between the 60s and 80s primarily for blending. The Mosstowie variant was produced utilising Lomond Stills, which meant many variables during distillation could be manipulated to promote distinct characteristics; the Miltonduff spirit is steadfast in its consistency: light, fresh and elegant.

Miltonduff’s spirit character is typically cereal-led and light, although some floral characteristics often also shine through. A single cask, cask strength and un-chillfiltered expression from Miltonduff Distillery, matured in an ex-Bourbon Hogshead.

Speyside single malts are single malt Scotch whiskies, distilled in Strathspey, the area around the River Spey in Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey, in northeastern Scotland. Although generalized, known as a region that produces delicate and fruity whisky, many styles are produced here. Almost half of Scotland's distilleries are situated here, on the banks of the United Kingdom's fastest flowing river.

Born of non-GMO AC Hazlet Winter Rye and Heirloom Corn planted and harvested by head distiller Michael Swanson, Roknar Minnesota Rye is milled, fermented and distilled in very small batches. 

Aged for 16 months in 15-gallon charred oak barrels and finished in Cognac casks. With a mash bill of 80% rye, 10% corn and 10% malt barley, Far North aims to establish MINNESOTA RYE as a regional style in the spirit of Pennsylvania and Maryland-style ryes.

TASTING NOTES

Roknar marries aromas of brown sugar and cinnamon with vanilla bean, roasted almonds and freshly sawn oak. These scents are precisely restated as flavors on a butter-smooth palate, with additional notes of smoked ham and balsa wood. Excelsior, New York’s state motto, means “Ever Upwards,” and our Excelsior Straight Bourbon is made exclusively from Hudson Valley grains, and then aged in a New York-coopered barrel of Hudson Valley oak. The Bottled-in-Bond release of the Excelsior Straight Bourbon fulfills our mission of creating spirits of historic significance.

The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 was one of the first consumer protection laws in the United States, and mandates (among other things) that the whisky be made, aged, and bottled by the  distillery on the label.

As with all of Coppersea’s “Heritage Methods Distilled” products, we mash Excelsior Bourbon Bottled In-Bond in open-top fermenters for additional local terroir, twice-distill in True Fire Copper, direct-fired simple alembic stills, and barrel age our spirits at the ultra-low proof of 105.

This full round Bourbon bears aromas and notes of fig, apricot, sweet ginger, cinnamon, vanilla and caramel.
