Why the neck tie?

Sitting prominently on the slopes of Volcán de Tequila is Sandovales, a historic hacienda built in 1821 that has housed prominent Mexican families for generations. As Agaveros Unidos de Amatitán acquired land for the Rancho Miravalle farm, Sandovales became a centerpiece for the family, and over time, the fertile landscape that laid claim to the only visible structure in the area became the subject of multiple legends and considerable local lore.

These days, Azuñia honors its rich history in the region by paying homage to one such legend. Ever notice how our signature Añejo tequila comes with a leather bracelet and silver coin? Legend has it, long ago, a failed robbery attempt left valuable coins scattered throughout the fertile fields where Azuñia’s agave grows today, and these little gifts are a nod to one of many stories that help make this land such a special place.

Mal Bien Tepextate – Ramos is made by Victor and his son Emanuel. They are the 3rd and 4th generations of the Ramos family to produce mezcal in the Miahuatlán District of Oaxaca, an area famous for its abundance and diversity of A. karwinskii sub-species (madrecuixe, tobaxiche, etc.). The community of Mengoli de Morelos where they live and work has a population of just under 200 people. They are related to the neighboring Cortes family via Victor’s wife (Emanuel’s mother), Cleotilde, whose sister Cesilia is married to Felipe.

The maguey Tepextate (Agave marmorata) used in this mezcal are cooked for 8-10 days in an underground pit oven with Encino and Mesquite. Once cooked, the agave rest 3-5 days before being mashed by ox drawn tahona. They’re fermented with open air yeasts for 3-8 days before being double distilled in a copper refrescadera still.

Glenlossie’s stills were fitted with purifier pipes which carry any heavier alcohols which have refluxed out in the lyne arm back into the body of the still to be redistilled. It is the use of these purifiers which adds a certain oily textural quality to the spirit, while a long fermentation also helps to promote a grassiness in the new make. Glenlossie remains a major contributor to its parent company’s blends, and other than Diageo’s Flora & Fauna series.

Aroma and Taste

Nose: Sugared almond, spicy oak, melon and milk chocolate.

Palate: Hazelnut praline, polished oak and berry jam, along with hints of vanilla fudge.

Finish: Orange curd, dried apple and a pinch of nutmeg.

Allt-a Bhainne is a silent hero for Chivas Brothers serving as one of the lead malt whiskies in its Chivas Regal Blends. This particular cask has been Chapter 7™'s baby since 2016. They've been watching over the maturation carefully and decided to give this fruity whisky a twist by finishing it in one of our Caol Ila first fill bourbon casks and the result is exquisite.

Aroma and Taste

Nose: Fruit basket, flower bouquet, manuka honey, candied orange, a touch of smoke.

Palate: Butterscotch, canned peach, honey, gingerbread, cinnamon spice.

Finish: Sweet, long, mandarine dipped in sweet spices.

THE NAME CORRIDO COMES FROM THE POETIC BALLADS SUNG BY SMUGGLERS WHO RISKED EVERYTHING TO PEDDLE TEQUILA IN PROHIBITION-ERA BORDER REGIONS. MANY OF THE EARLY CORRIDOS CELEBRATED THESE BORDER BANDITS AND FOLK HEROES—TELLING TALES OF TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDIES ALONG TRAILS AND AROUND CAMPFIRES.

Inspired by their corridos, the songs of the people, late founder Brad Hoover founded Tequila Corrido to create an all-natural, handcrafted tequila of the future by honoring the spirits of the past. With every harvest, we pay homage to the tequila-making traditions and stories behind its evolution and weave their corridos into each expression of Tequila Corrido

Redbreast is a single pot still whiskey, for which a combination of malted and un-malted barley are triple distilled in copper pot stills. The brand was created by W.A. Gilbey & Co, and bottled using whiskey sourced from Jameson's Bow Street distillery in Dublin. When Jameson amalgamated with Powers and Cork Distillers to form the Irish Distillers group, the Dublin distilleries were closed down, with all production moved to New Midleton distillery in Cork in 1975. Gilbey's discontinued the brand ten years later, but agreed to sell it to Irish Distillers who relaunched it in 1991.

Espadín Capón 2014 | Cándido García Cruz | Summer 2020 Release | CANESP001 | 506 Bottles

In March of 2014, Cándido and his family harvested over 100 of the largest and ripest capón Espadín magueys from their red-earthen, tierra colorada parcel known as “El Llano,” where different species of agave grow within the milpa system, side by side with food crops.  Carefully selected, these massive piñas were rested for eight days before being pit-roasted with mesquite wood for another eight days. Cándido rested the unearthed agave for eight more days, aiding the cellulose to breakdown into fermentable sugars before chopping up large cooked chunks with a machete and passing the material through a shredder. The dry fibers sat for 24 hours before the maestro deemed appropriate the addition of well water in a 50/50 agave to water ratio. Wet fermentation ran for 10 days before the fibers and guarape were ready for distillation. To adjust the final level of alcohol, Cándido composed the batch using the low percentage común from the second round of distillation, known in the region as the resaque. Cándido’s daughter Florencia helped throughout the process of composition, leaving her own particular mark on this production. The flavors and aromas are spot-on reflective of its makers, the palenque, and the land from which the maguey was grown. If you’re not yet acquainted with the expertly crafted Espadín of Miahuatlán or are already a devotee, this batch will surprise even the most jaded of palates.

For years, this special Espadín has been a favorite of ours, so it brings us great joy to be able to share the last few hundred liters with friends and agave fans in California!

Cosa Salvaje Tanya Tucker Limited Edition Extra Añejo Tequila is made from 100% pure blue agave. This tequila by Cosa Salvaje is presented in a beautiful black bottle and filled with an Extra Añejo special blend which is considered to be a true sipping tequila.

Aroma: Cinnamon, caramel, vanilla and nutmeg.

Taste: Begins smooth, rich with a hint of oak, but then gives way to a delicious range of sweet cinnamon and maple.

Aging: 5 years.

Agave

Agave Jabalí, or Convallis, is rare and extremely difficult to work with. During fermentation and distillation, this agave foams and expands, with a possibility of the liquid to explode out of the seams of the still. This agave is distinctly wild and considered to produce the most exotic of all mezcals.

Taste

The aromatics express notes of lavender and sage. Bright green vegetal flavors of celery and parsley grace the palate with a lingering finish of black pepper.

Agave

Part of the American Oaxacensis agave family, the Castilla is a close cousin to the Espadín agave. Smaller in size than an Espadín and often discovered more in the wild, this agave is heavily influenced by its terroir. Sourced from deep in the heart of the Oaxaca valley close to a river, the agave added fruit forward notes.

Taste

Driven by the region that the Castilla was sourced from, the aromatics are fruit forward and earthy. A slight sweetness is evident on the palate with flavors of roasted agave, mocha and fresh mint and pepper, finishing smooth with subtle hints of smoke.

Agave

A subspecies of the Angustifolia family, the Sacatoro agave takes about eight to twelve years to mature and is harvested from the hillsides of Guerrero. Unique in itself, the characteristics of this agave showcase the aromas of wet earth, a rich smokiness on the mid-palate, and a finish reminiscent of wild flowers.

Taste

Slight sweetness on the nose with a soft mineral scent of river rock. An initially viscous mouthfeel leads to a savory palate with flavors of sage, fennel and creamed corn. The finish is lasting with a brined salinity and effervescence.

As a tribute to shared Irish and American artistry, Heaven's Door Master Blender Ryan Perry and Redbreast Master Blender Billy Leighton collaborated on the 10-year-old Heaven's Door Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished in casks used for Redbreast Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. Full and complex body by way of Rich Ripe Fruit, Red Apples, Figs & Dates, as well as an unmistakable nutty note of Marzipan and Ground Nut, especially in the finish

Wolfburn has finally come of age. Northland is the first, and ongoing, release from the Scottish mainland's northernmost distillery. This is a light, sweet and fragrant whisky, with notes of fruit, nuts and a hint of peat.

The famed Sazerac Coffee House was founded in 1850 on Exchange Alley in New Orleans, Louisiana and soon gained fame as the home of “America’s First Cocktail” known as the Sazerac. Using rye whiskey in place of the French brandy, a dash of Peychaud Bitters, and Herbsaint, what eventually became the official cocktail of New Orleans was created.  This straight rye has a mellow spice and dry sweetness that dances on the tongue, giving pure delight that is worthy of the Sazerac name.
