About the Brand

It all started in 1790 when the 25-year-old son of a Scottish prosperous cabinetmaker asked for a 300£ loan from his father to set up as a wine merchant in London. This ambitious young man was George Sandeman, the founder of Sandeman, who ended up establishing one of the world’s leading Port and Sherry wine businesses. From early on Sandeman specialized in these two great Iberian fortified wines and, following a usual practice in those days, began trading not from own offices but from Tom’s Coffee house, on Birchin Lane, London. Business was agreed on a ‘gentleman’s word’ and George soon gained an impeccable reputation, characteristic of The House of Sandeman to today.

Situated over 1,000 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Monadhliath Mountains, Tomatin Distillery is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland. Its origins date back to the 15th century when drivers, bringing their cattle over the high mountain passes to the Tomatin market, filled their flasks from a still hidden at the Old Laird's House, which is situated adjacent to the distillery. Since that time, centuries of isolation and generations of family tradition (some workers at the distillery are the fifth generation of their family to work there) have created a distillery rooted in Scottish heritage and tradition. Tomatin 14-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from plump, Scottish barley. After the barley is harvested, it is mashed and fermented before being distilled twice through Tomatin's copper-pot stills. The stills have a round, flat shape that gives the whisky a rounder and sweeter flavor profile, notes Douglas Campbell, Tomatin's master distiller. Campbell, who began working at the distillery in 1961, joined Tomatin as an accountant, doing clerical work. "After that, the managing director, John McDonald, took me under his wing and gave me the chance to work in different parts of the distillery. I did mashing for three or four years, distilling for a couple of years, worked in the warehouses. Eventually, I was one of the charge hands getting casks ready for dispatch." Campbell has over fifty years of experience at Tomatin Distillery. "My father worked here as a cooper, my wife worked here for 10 years as secretary for the managing director, and my son works here now in the warehouse. I was born in Tomatin, I belong to Tomatin. Campbell's expertise is the foundation of Tomatin Whiskies. The distillery has produced several beautiful whiskies, full of character, including their 14-year-old single malt. This whisky became a part of the Tomatin stable in 2014. Aged in bourbon barrels and finished for one year in Tawny Port casks (which previously held port for around 50 years), this is the first expression from Tomatin to be aged in this variety of wood. Fruity with a slight nuttiness, this single malt is smooth and sweet. Gold medalist at the 2016 San Francisco WSC and World Whisky Awards, the 14YO also scored 92.5 in Jim Murray's 2017 Whisky Bible.

For over four generations Gonzlez family has been perfecting the tequila-making craft. To this day, they incorporate age-old processes and values handed down for generations. El Mayor tequilas are handcrafted in the fertile, rocky soils of Jalisco Mexico using Weber Blue Agave. Once harvested their hand-selected agave is chopped stacked and cooked in autoclaves, before the cooked agave is shredded and gently pressed to extract the full agave flavor. After being fermented with a proprietary, family-owned yeast strain, the agave juice is double distilled in copper lined pots. El Mayor Extra Aejo Tequila is the epitome of aging gracefully. A 100% agave tequila is meticulously aged in American white oak barrels for a minimum of three and a half years. This stunning Aejo earned Platinum at the 2017 SIP Awards and Master in the 2017 Tequila Masters Super Premium Category.

Spirit of Hven organic gin is a true handcrafted distilled gin produced from fresh botanicals which are infused for 24 hours with the finest quality organic grain spirit. Following infusion, distillation is carried out in the unique Hven copper pot stills. The special design incorporating both helmets, baskets, and columns promotes the development of a Fabulous organic distilled gin. The result is an outstanding luxury gin with delicate aromas and a taste of citrus, juniper, and grains of paradise.

Flavor
The gin holds clear citric notes, still smooth distinct tone of Mauritian Bourbon Vanilla and Cassia bark. Fresh Swedish junipers have a round character, well balanced with Cardamom and Calamus root. Sichuan pepper, Aniseed, and Guinea pepper give structure and edge. This gin has a surprisingly long smooth aftertaste with a gentle touch of Liquorice and cut hay.

Lineage is a marrying of the traditional Scotch Single Malts that have long been an inspiration to us with innovative approaches to grain and maturation to celebrate Texas provenance. Made from both Scottish and Texas-grown barley and aged in both refill and new oak barrels, Lineage celebrates both old and new traditions.

Maker Notes

Second in our five-part Sherry Wood Series, this 2023 Edition whisky has been matured for six years in Bourbon casks followed by 4 years in Palo Cortado Sherry hogsheads made from Spanish oak.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: There are notes of parma violets, buttercream icing and peaches on the nose, along with hints of cola and grated ginger.
