LA COLONIAL REPOSADO SMOOTH & SMOKY

This is the second volume in our limited-edition series celebrating the Sauza family legacy. Inspired by La Colonial Club, founded in the 1930s by the second Don of Sauza, Don Eladio. Using traditional processes of the era, including tahona stones to crush the agave, this cask-strength Reposado offers notes of vanilla and smoke, in celebration of the late nights at La Colonial Club.

Aged for 21 years, our whisky's velvety style reflects all our time-honoured skills in marrying casks - techniques for which we've been renowned since our distillery began. Over the initial maturation in American oak casks the whisky develops an intense spicy sweetness. It is then finished over two years in Portuguese port wine casks, gaining rich, dark chocolate notes and full-bodied elegance. This unique balance of such contrasting casks, reveals a wonderfully complex dram.

Maker Notes

When we first discovered this barrel, we were immediately captivated by its balanced and dynamic flavor. The natural sweetness of the corn bourbon mash has pulled the best characteristics from the expertly charred new American oak. Rich and nutty toffee with smooth caramel has imbued this spirit with a robust maturity. The rye-heavy mashbill adds a magnificent contrast, exposing drinkers to a concert of flavors that seamlessly dance between sweet, savory, and spicy. The end result is an unquestionably bright spirit—something we more typically associate with a young barrel—but in an unmistakably mature presentation. The depth and complexity of this barrel truly needs to be tasted to be appreciated. 

We have one of these barrels to share with the world, and each bottle is poured from the one barrel, persevering all the uniqueness present in the cask. Bottles will be available for a limited time only. 

While Riverine contains traditional gin botanicals like Juniper, Coriander, and Orris Root, it is not a gin proxy. Rather, it is a nuanced, sophisticated spirit in its own right.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Bright sumac fades to cool mint.

PALATE: Citrus, sorrel, and coriander lend a vibrant piquancy to start, layered with moss and earth.

FINISH: Deep forest notes from juniper and parsley linger on the rear palate, as rosemary imparts a long herbal finish.

The Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a bright and inviting nose with loads of fresh berry aromas: boysenberry, blackberry and baking spice notes. The nose leads to a plush, juicy, full mouthfeel filled with fresh berry jam and dark chocolate flavors. The wine is well-structured with a dense core of fruit and smooth tannins. The balanced acidity gives the wine a long, flavorful finish.
