Decoy California Zinfandel Wine 2021

Decoy

750 ml | 14.2% ABV
Wine | Zinfandel

Established more than 30 years ago by legendary vintners Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, our roots run deep at Decoy. This California Zinfandel highlights a bright red-fruit and spice expression of Zinfandel. Reflecting the character of each growing season and the diversity of our vineyard sources, Decoy has established itself as a wine of distinction. From vine to bottle, we craft our wines to the highest standards, only using grapes from exceptional vineyards.

Wine Profile

Production Notes
Varietal Composition: 90% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah

Winemaker Notes
This tantalizing Zinfandel leaps from the glass with concentrated aromas of wild blueberry, blackberry, plum, vanilla and freshly cracked white pepper. The luxurious fruit and spice layers are echoed on the palate, where they glide across velvety tannins to a robust finish with just a hint of lingering sweetness.

Production
The growing season began with minimal winter rains and a mild spring. With drought conditions throughout California, we carefully tailored our vineyard practices to ensure balanced crop loads. With slightly elevated temperatures, budbreak at our North Coast vineyards was approximately two weeks ahead of the cooler Central Coast. As a result, our North Coast harvest concluded on October 15th, with our harvest on the Central Coast wrapping up on November 6th. In both regions, the berries and clusters were smaller than average, producing lower yields but deeply concentrated flavors, aromas and textures. Overall, the resulting wines are of exceptional quality, with lovely balance, excellent natural acidity and bright, juicy flavors.

Corsair RED Absinthe

Corsair

750 ml | 56% ABV
Wine

Absinthe, which is a spirit traditionally derived from grand wormwood, anise and fennel, has a long and colorful history. While its origins remain unclear, the use of medicinal wormwood dates back to ancient Egypt. In the 18th and 19th centuries, absinthe was distributed by the French Army to its troops as a cure for several digestive diseases, including dysentery and tropical fever. When the troops returned home, they brought their taste for absinthe with them. Spurred by the temperance movement and winemakers, absinthe eventually became associated with hallucinogenic effects. One critic claimed that absinthe would "make you crazy and criminal,"and that it would "provoke epilepsy and tuberculosis." In 1905, Swiss farmer Jean Lanfray murdered his family after consuming considerable quantities of wine, brandy and two glasses of absinthe. While Lanfray had a history of alcoholism, Swiss teetotalers seized the moment and passed a referendum making absinthe illegal. Similarly, absinthe was prohibited in the United States for nearly a century; from 1912 until 2007, absinthe was not allowed to be consumed on American soil. Corsair RED Absinthe is a unique interpretation on the classic green spirit. "Our company got going about the same time the U.S. ban was lifted, so it was one of those things where we said we could make a little and people would come and want to know about it," says Andrew Webber, the co-founder of Corsair Artisan Spirits. "It's one of the most uncommon absinthes made in the world, so people have found use for our product, and it has its own uses in mixology." Corsair RED is made using traditional absinthe ingredients, but is tweaked with some unusual additions, including citrus, tarragon, dragon wormwood (a relative of grand wormwood) and red hibiscus flowers. "We think of a good spirit as something like a musical chord made up of several notes," says Webber, noting that Corsair originally envisioned creating a more traditional absinthe. "Our early batches were missing a note in the chord. But when we added hibiscus, everything clicked." The hibiscus flowers give the absinthe its unusual red color, and add a floral note to the palate that is complemented by tangy citrus, herbal undertones and a spicy, peppery finish. Once the absinthe has been distilled, each bottle is filled, labeled and boxed by hand Corsair's small operation has no mechanized components. "We make less in a year than a big distillery spills in a day," says Clay Smith, Corsair's distillery manager. "Our products are extremely small batch, meaning that our largest run is 550 bottles."

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Dundas Scotch Whisky

Johnnie Walker

750 ml | 43.8% ABV
Whiskey | Scotch

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich has an exceptional single malt from the 'ghost' distillery of Pittyvaich at its heart. Pittyvaich closed its doors in 1993 after just 18 years of life. Though short in life, Pittyvaich left a distinct and growing legacy. This hidden gem is now gently spoken about the world over for its unique Speyside style.

Sweet fruit notes if fresh apple gather with the distinct autumnal flavours of Pittyvaich, beautifully balanced with the delicate subtle sweetness of honeycomb and soft wood from the 'ghost ' whiskies of Port Dundas and Carsebridge. Other very rare whiskies from a quartet of Speyside distilleries including Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore and Strathmill alongside the Highland whisky of Royal Lochnagar, bring aromas of dark fruit and berries before easing into gentle butterscotch, stewing orchard fruits and a dash of cinnamon, all combining to create an exploration of this rarely seen 'ghost' whisky. In total this special blend consists of whisky from Pittyvaich and 7 other rare whiskies.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare releases are a series of limited editions that explore the rich flavours and distinctive distillery character of selected whiskies from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves. Each release offer a fleeting opportunity to savour the depth of character of whiskies from 'ghost' distilleries that have long since closed, but whose spirit still lives on in the precious liquid captured in every bottle.

Villa Lobos Reposado Tequila

Villa Lobos Tequila

750 ml | 40% ABV
Tequila | Reposado

About the Brand

Villa Lobos Tequila is the result of a friendship and close collaboration between two of the world’s most respected and trusted family experts on tequila and spirits respectively, the Camarena and the Sklar families. Between them, they bring 10 generations of tradition and heritage to their work.

The San Francisco Spirits competition voted the Reposado not just double gold, but also the judges accredited Villa Lobos as “… the best tequila submitted in the competition in all categories out of 143 other brands… !“

Villa Lobos Tequila is a story of a generation spanning alliance between two families, the Camarenas and the Sklars, respectively tequileros and spirits producers and importers, since the mid 1800’s.

Commissioned by a trader to source bottles of El Tesoro de Don Felipe and Tapatio tequila for the UK market, Dale Sklar, founder of import company Wine & Spirit International Ltd, traces the producer and travels to La Alteña distillery in Arandas in 1988. Upon arrival, he is greeted by Don Felipe Camarena, his son Carlos and his daughter, Lily -and not by a typical mariachi band!-, immediately taken to see the stills and offered fresh blanco at 55% from a cow’s horn, as it drips out the small copper pot still. Everything feels authentic, ‘old fashioned’ like a step back in time, and devoted to the liquid. There was almost immediately a shared chemistry between the Camarenas and Dale, he becomes importer of both tequilas and the relationship begins.

Flash forward to 2010, some 22 years later. El Tesoro, joint project between Mr Bob Denton and Don Felipe, is sold. Dale proposes to repeat history, this time with Don Felipe’s son, Carlos and himself. Dale has already registered a brand name, “ VillaLobos”. When pressed, Dale reluctantly admits that he was inspired during his very first trip to Mexico in 1969, when at the age of just 18, he met a beautiful Tapatía, Señorita Lupita Villalobos, one night in Guadalajara. The rest is history, but he honoured that memory by dedicating the best tequila that could possibly be made, to Lupita !
Carlos and Dale -both sons of fathers, grandfathers & even great grandfathers who spent their lives in the spirits business and learned almost all from them- unite their families to create this very unique, soft, gentle tequila.
