Following the end of the American Revolutionary War, Johannes Reginald Beam emigrated from Germany to the United States, and eventually settled in Kentucky County. At the time, Kentucky County was still considered part of Virginia, and was overseen by a military governor named John J. Bowman. After settling in Kentucky, Beam began harvesting corn and set forth a family tradition by distilling the excess grains he harvested into whiskey. Since then, seven generations of the Beam family have been involved in whiskey production for the eponymous company (the company is actually named after James Beam, who rescued it following Prohibition). Knob Creek Bourbon was created by Beam's grandson, Booker Noe, who after joining the family business in 1950 was promoted to Master Distiller just ten years later. Booker talked like a true Kentuckian and was known for his contagious personality, and through his launch of the "Small Batch Bourbon Collection" the collection includes Knob Creek as well as Basil Hayden's, Booker's and Baker's bourbons he is often credited as the father of the small batch bourbon movement. Knob Creek Bourbon takes its name from the small water source, Knob Creek, that ran through President Abraham Lincoln's childhood farm. Booker's vision for Knob Creek Bourbon was that of an honest, quality bourbon that could meet the standards strength, flavor, care, and patience of bourbon made before Prohibition distressed the industry just decades earlier. Like Abraham Lincoln himself, Booker designed Knob Creek Bourbon to be honest, unwavering and full of character. In 2016 the much-loved 9-year-old Small Batch Bourbon lost its age statement due to inventory issues. Now it's making its return in style with the label proudly stating: Knob Creek 9 Year Old Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Detailed Description

For Revolution Rye, the mash bill is 100 percent rye (similar to the Canadian rye whiskey used by a few different brands). Interestingly, the Revolution Rye mash bill uses three types of rye grain, including a chocolate malted rye. A portion of the rye is toasted, which Mad River claims releases aromatic chocolate and mocha notes into the distillate.

Nose: Out of a Glencairn glass, the nose has very strong hay and cereal grain notes. Underneath the almost overpowering grassy notes, faint cocoa notes that the toasted rye allegedly adds.

Palate: On the front, the cereal grain notes carry over from the nose. As the flavor unfolds, the cocoa notes make a brief appearance but are pretty quickly overpowered by bitter grassy notes.

Finish: The finish is grassy, dry, bitter, and unfortunately lingering.

Maker Notes

We have a Confession to make – we didn’t make this bourbon. While we never intended to bottle and sell bourbon we didn’t craft, the need to slow the run on our aging inventory overruled our sense of moral authority in this space. And, as such, the first Chapter of our Confession was appropriately named, “Original Sin.” The process of bringing confession to life was more fun than we anticipated so stay tuned for more chapters in this tell-all story where you can expect transparency and premium brown liquid. As we take this journey together, we promise its conclusion to end in penance.

During the 17th century, the Madeira archipelago (situated just 200 miles north of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa) was the major exporter of sugar and sugar cane to much of Portugal and the remainder of Western Europe. As Algerian pirates began raiding European cargo ships in the 18th century, and Napoleon began plunged Europe into a series of wars, the waters off the coast of the Madeira archipelago became too dangerous, and the production of sugar cane, as well as cachaa a spirit distilled from sugar cane shifted to Brazil. Since then, cachaa has become the most popular spirit in Brazil and the third most-popular spirit in the world. Yaguara Cachaa is crafted by a fifth-generation family of cachaa producers, situated in the heart of Brazil. After the stalks of organic sugarcane grow as high twelve feet on the family's estate, expert farmers tenderly harvest the crops by hand using a machete. Then, the sugarcane is pressed and the resulting pulp slowly fermented using a family yeast recipe that has been passed down for nearly two hundred years. Following distillation, the cachaa is distilled through a 750-liter copper alembic still before being expertly blended together by Master Blender Erwin Weimann, who has over four decades of experience in the cachaa industry. As a result of his expertise, Yaguara Cachaa has a golden green hue, along with an aroma of overripe bananas, papayas and dried apricots. The aroma gives way to notes of chamomile, lentils, limes and lemongrass on the palate, and yields to a finish accented by touches of ginger and crushed red pepper. Yaguara Cachaa is gluten-free and was just released in the United States.

Michter’s US1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is made from a carefully selected mashbill that features the highest quality American corn. It is then matured to the peak of perfection. Truly “small batch” each batch of our US1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is batched in a holding tank sized to fit a maximum of twenty full barrels, leaving no margin for “blending out” imperfection and thus necessitating excellence from every barrel. Reflecting the spirit of the Bluegrass State, Michter’s US1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is nuanced, mellow and earthy. Willett Pot Still Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a premium bourbon whiskey produced by the Willett Distillery, a family-owned and operated distillery located in Bardstown, Kentucky. The distillery was established in 1935 and has been producing high-quality bourbon ever since.

The Willett Pot Still Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey is named after the copper pot stills that are used to distill the whiskey. These stills are made of copper, which is believed to impart a unique flavor and character to the bourbon. The whiskey is made from a mash bill of corn, rye, and barley and is aged for a minimum of four years in charred oak barrels.

One of the unique aspects of the Willett Pot Still Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey is its high proof. This gives the whiskey a richer and more complex flavor profile, with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak.

KEY INGREDIENTS
To achieve the smooth, full-bodied taste of our Spiced Orange Ginger Ale, we selected three types of ginger for their complementary, yet distinctive, flavour profiles. From Cochin in India, we source a variety that lends a warm and spicy flavour. From the Ivory Coast, we get a fresh green ginger that has an incredible lemongrass freshness. Finally, our Nigerian ginger brings a deep, intense flavour to the blend. To this, we add cinnamon and clementine to bring a delicious sweetness to the drink. 

Malfy Gin Rosa is distilled using the peel of Sicilian pink grapefruits, Italian juniper berries, rhubarb, and four other botanicals. Our sun-ripened Sicilian pink grapefruits are grown in citrus groves on the Mediterranean coast where the mountains greet the sea. Italian invented gin in the 11th century. Monks living on the Salerno Coast gathered juniper berries and mixed them with alcohol. Today, our family makes Malfy G.Q.D.I. (Gin di Qualit Distillato in Italia) at our distillery in Moncalieri. We use Italian ingredients across our range of gins to give Malfy its signature Italian flavor.
