The beginnings of Ocho Tequila can be traced to 1937, when the Camarenas first started making tequila. It is a collaboration between Carlos Camarena and his family and Tomas Estes, owner of multiple Mexican restaurants and bars. He has been passionately promoting and selling tequila since 1976, making him a perfect partner for the Camarenas. The Master Distiller Carlos Camarena is a third generation of tequileros, operating in Jalisco, Mexico. He is well-respected for making high-quality spirits, which have accumulated a respectable amount of awards over the years. Ocho Tequila is the culmination of the visions of these two gentlemen. Made according to tradition from 100% agaves, grown in their own fields, they always strive for perfection, never rushing the process. They are the first to mark not only the year of production on each bottle, but also specify the exact field in which the agaves were grown. "Ocho" translates to "eight" and the number is deeply ingrained in the distillery's history and operations. Out of the first samples produced by the Camarenas, the 8th was chosen. It's the number of years agaves need to fully ripen, as well as the number of kilograms of agave needed to produce a liter of Ocho tequila. It's also the exact number of days that takes for a freshly delivered batch of fruit to be turned into unaged tequila. Carlos Camarena has 8 siblings and the family has been distilling for 8 decades. Every bottle of Ocho Tequila is marked with the year of production, as well as the estate or "rancho", from which the agaves come, not unlike fine wines. This makes the bottles highly collectible. Ocho Reposado Tequila has been aged in ex-American Whiskey barrels for 8 weeks and 8 days and is made from 100% blue agave, then bottled at 80 proof.

Why in the world would anyone want to put something called "Bitters" into a drink? In fact, Bitters are critical in the best drinks. The first publication of a bartenders' guide which included cocktail recipes was in 1862 - How to Mix Drinks; The Bon Vivant's Companion, by "Professor" Jerry Thomas. In addition to recipes for Punches, Sours, Slings, and the like, were 10 recipes for drinks called "Cocktails".

The effect of Bitters in a drink is to balance, round out and complex the flavor. Your mouth has taste receptors for sour, sweet, and salty; AND it has a receptor for bitter. The more receptors triggered as a drink tickles on the way down, the more interesting the drink. You know you have used Bitters correctly when the person enjoying the drink says, "Wow, there is something going on in the background of that drink". Consider that a slam-dunk.

Aroma: Baking bread Caramel and Toffee notes Light Brown Sugar Hints of Cinnamon Oaky and baking spices As I pull away I get hints of dry fig, honey and bananas

Taste: The rye whiskey starts with sweetness. Hints of cherry pits and vanilla, and then the spice of the rye comes in on the tip of my tongue, but it has a soft mouthfeel to it.

Mid-palate, there are subtle notes of caramel and golden maple syrup with some tobacco and cinnamon notes as it becomes buttery smooth, and well-rounded between the sweet and spicy characteristics. 

Finish: A nice clean finish with ginger, black pepper spice, and moderate warmth with a dry sawdust bite.

The Frank Family Vineyards first opened their doors in 1993, when former Disney Studios president Rich Frank bought the Larkmead Winery. The historic winery was constructed in 1884 and is the 3rd oldest winery in Napa Valley. Larkmead was famous for sparkling wines and it's said that Marilyn Monroe was a regular visitor. While they continue the tradition of producing sparkling wine using the French champenoise method, they are more focused on superb still wines today, employing the four estate vineyards in Rutherford, Napa-Carneros, and Napa's Capell Valley. Their Napa Valley wines are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel, but they also have plenty of Reserve wines. They use 100% French oak barrels and everything is done on-site. They are also committed to sustainability and the winery is Napa Green certified since 2015. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon vintage from their Napa Valley lineup is crafted from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc varietals. These were harvested between September 20 and October 22, 2016. It's a rich and complex Cabernet Sauvignon with stunning structure.

OUR STORY
Our story began in 1942, when a young Don Julio González saw a unique opportunity in the production of tequila. He didn’t have much, but what he did have was passion, and after sharing his vision with a powerful local businessman he was granted a loan to create his first tequila distillery. It was this unrelenting passion for excellence that inspired his creation of the world’s first luxury tequila.

DON JULIO’S MISSION
Don Julio González revolutionized the world of tequila by choosing quality over quantity, painstakingly planting each agave further apart to allow proper room to grow and fully mature before harvesting. He would then select only the most succulent portions of the piña, before steaming them for 72-hour cycles. When it came time to bottle his creation, he broke with generations of traditionally tall Tequila bottles typically hidden under tables. He knew his new spirit had no business hiding on the floor, so he designed a shorter tequila bottle for his guests to pass around the table while still being able to see each other.

Celebrated in exclusive cocktail bars, restaurants and nightclubs, the iconic Don Julio 1942® Tequila is the choice of connoisseurs around the globe.
