Raglan Road 5 Year Old Irish Single Malt, cask strength 54.9% ABV, is another collaboration, aged in bourbon, matured in madeira, finished in imperial stout produced by Seamus McMahon’s Brehon Brewhouse. This fine craft brewery is situated in Killanny Monaghan, across the fields from poet Paddy Kavanagh’s Inniskeen homeplace. Kavanagh spent much of his life in Dublin, and was very well known around Ballsbridge and D4 in general, including the Beggars Bush (a Ryan establishment). Raglan Road seemed a fitting name for this town and country, Dublin and Monaghan, family to family, Ryan and McMahon, collaboration. An ambitious and technically difficult finish, we sent casks to Seamus in which he finished his stout, then retrieved them and filled the same day with our whiskey. We think we got it just right; judge for yourself. 3,500 bottles, numbered, and signed by Eunan Ryan.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR: Amber

NOSE: Homemade marmalade and the white toast it’s layered on. Candied orange peel, real orange peel, pound cake and panatone. Plain cookie. Cake mix and pith, and with water, orange petals on top of those peels.

PALATE: Honey nut cheerios. Bread crust. Bran biscuits, more orange peel, and thick gooey nougat. As with the nose, with water comes orange blossom water – and more cereals and citrus wax.

FINISH: Thick frosting, citrus pith, old-school orange sweets and pound cake again. Breadiness and citrus, together at last. Sultanas for a minute straight.

Inspired by an enormous pecan tree on the old Belfour ranch in North Texas, this 92-proof bourbon whiskey ages with toasted pecan staves inserted into the barrels to provide its unique yet nostalgic flavor profile. The Boss Hog X transcends tradition with a double finish inspired by our own land of milk and honey. Each barrel of Straight Rye Whiskey is aged in new American Oak before completing its journey in two unorthodox finishing barrels. The first is seasoned with our own experimental spirit – distilled from rye and whey, infused with aromatic resins from the genera commonly known as Frankincense and Myrrh  – delivering notes of creme brulee, lemongrass and rosemary to the final whiskey. The second and final finish is aged in craft mead casks, offering a mellow, round-bodied finish with hints of red berries and freshly crushed black pepper.

The result – thousands of years’ worth of wonder condensed into a bottle of biblical proportions, righteously rendered at barrel proof.

Black Art 11 has been created using pre-renaissance casks from Bruichladdich Distillery (pre-2001) which have been safeguarded and maturing on Islay for 24 years.

An enigmatic alchemy which relies on nature, craftsmanship and the quiet passing of time, what happens inside each cask under cover of darkness in the depths of the warehouse remains a mystery. Black Art 11 is a testament to this elusive mastery. Using artisanal techniques passed down from one generation to the next; the spirit is pulled exclusively from Bruichladdich distillery pre-renaissance casks which have been patiently maturing on our island home for almost three decades. The finite single malt is created in secret by our head distiller, Adam Hannett, with the recipe only known to him. Putting our trust in Adam, he is given creative freedom to bring this incredible whisky to life. Using pre-renaissance Bruichladdich stock, Black Art 11 is unique and unrepeatable. A chance to experiment, take risks and push the boundaries of possibility; only Adam knows what has gone into creating the precious 24-year-old single malt. The barley and cask types are undisclosed, with the final recipe a mystery. Matured in the finest oak, this eleventh edition of Black Art showcases the captivating marriage of faith and ingenuity and we invite you to put your trust in us.

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Rich Tawny.

NOSE: Dried fruits, leather and a hint of citrus immediately open on the nose, followed by a fresh sea breeze. Sweet fruit and floral notes come to the fore, with poached pear, delicate rose hip syrup, black cherry, and sweet mango. The complexity of the single malt is apparent as the aromas continue to open, with cedar and mellow oak complemented with butterscotch, praline, honey, and a hint of cinnamon. Warming oats are balanced with fragrant notes of rose and pear drops.

PALATE: Dried fruits, dates, raisins, barley sugar, leather and oak open on the palate, followed by butterscotch sweetness, praline and hints of coconut and fresh citrus. Sweet apple and pear are married with toasted oak, warming wood spice, dark plums and marzipan, with layers of depth opening with each sip.

FINISH: Oak and dried fruit come to the fore, with Christmas cake notes of sultanas, fig, marzipan, and lingering honey adding to the beautifully rounded finish.

Taylor Fladgate is one of the few remaining houses to produce a 30 Year Old aged tawny Port. Selected red Ports produced in the eastern areas of the Douro Valley are matured in seasoned oak casks in Taylor Fladgate cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Here, the cool and damp coastal climate encourages a slow and gentle ageing process, producing aromas of great complexity and finesse.

Only every two or three years is a reserve of Port with sufficient structure, fruit and power to age is laid aside to age in oak casks. Those that have reached their peak after thirty years are then blended together for balance and finesse, and to ensure consistency of quality and style. The 30 year old tawny is one such wine.
 

Tasting Notes

Deep, old gold colour with hints of dried fruit and honey offsetting the rich nutty aromas. Lush, silky richness with an elegant, slightly austere quality which is quite distinctive. Subtle dried fruit flavours underly, exotic layers of caramel and nuts culminating in an endless finish.

Terrazas de los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon. Naturally low-yield vines grown in the clay soils of Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, bring forth full-bodied, generous flavors. And our best plot in Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley, offers spicy, fruity aromas. Blending the contrasts of five in transition to organic plots, this Mendoza red wine is perfect for ageing.

TASTING NOTES
This Argentinean Cabernet Sauvignon offers a complex bouquet that shows back pepper, tobacco and fresh herbal hints, combined with notes of dark chocolate and caramel due to the oak aging. In mouth, it stands out for presenting a greasy and long sensation with granular tannins and a fresh finish.
