Devils River Agave Bourbon Whiskey

Devils River Whiskey

750 ml | 40% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

WILD AND FREE

Near the border of Texas and Mexico, lies an intersection of storied history. The Devils River streams wildly and free through hundreds of years of extraordinary discovery; it has charmed Native Americans, cofounded Conquistadors, and tended to Texas Rangers, alike.

And while many may choose to see the natural-flowing waters of the Devils River as a divide – separating lands, people, traditions, and cultures – we know that the iron-free, limestone-filtered spring water we source to make our whiskey brings people together.

FEATS OF NATURE

Just South-Southwest of the Devils River is another unique feat of nature known for the unusual spiney leafed Agave plant. A national treasure to Mexico and spirits-lovers worldwide, the Blue Agave is renowned for being the primary sources of agave nectar, a syrupy sweetener, and the key ingredient in mezcal, tequila, and now, Devils River Agave Bourbon.

A CELEBRATION OF CULTURES

We celebrate two historically rich byproducts of the nature. The Devils River lures you in with its stunning landscape and pristine tranquil water flowing naturally into the Rio Grande and the highlands of Jalisco in Mexico bears the beautiful Blue Agave with its naturally sweet nectar. We have created a celebration of these two cultures in one unique experience, Devils River Agave Bourbon.

TEXAS-MEXICO

We start with our award-winning,  Devils River Bourbon Whiskey and add a touch of organic, unfiltered Blue Agave nectar from Jalisco, Mexico to create a truly one-of-a-kind Texas-Mexico whiskey experience, Devils River Agave Bourbon Whiskey, 80-proof 40% ABV.

A CRAFT BEER PIONEER SETS HIS SIGHTS ON SPIRITS

The original Anchor Distilling Company was established in 1993 by Fritz Maytag, the same beverage visionary who sparked the craft beer movement with his purchase of Anchor Brewing in 1965. Maytag had rescued the struggling brewery and its iconic steam beer, and after several decades of exclusively producing beer, Maytag saw an opportunity to expand into the distillation of spirits.

THE RETURN OF POT-DISTILLED WHISKEY TO THE UNITED STATES
Fritz’s vision of a rye whiskey revival was fueled by the bold realization that there were no pot-distilled whiskeys being made legally in America at the time. Finding inspiration in the rye whiskeys of America’s past and the great single malt whiskeys of Scotland, Fritz gathered a small team to begin top secret research and experimentation in the distillery. The first whiskey went into barrel in 1994, and the distillery soon began producing three rye whiskeys under Fritz’s guidance, all pot-distilled spirit from a mash of 100% malted rye.

PIONEER IN CRAFT WHISKEY

Old Potrero is an attempt to recreate the original whiskey of America, and marks the return of pot-distilled whiskey in the United States. It’s distilled in a small copper pot still at the Hotaling & Co. Distillery on San Francisco’s Potrero Hill from a mash of 100% rye malt, with rye being the grain of choice for America’s first distillers.

MASTER DISTILLER: BRUCE JOSEPH

In 2010, Fritz officially passed the torch to Bruce Joseph, who is now the Master Distiller of Old Potrero. Fritz and Bruce had worked alongside each other since the first barrels were laid down in 1994. The whiskey has been historically distilled in small copper pot stills at the Hotaling & Co. Distillery in San Francisco.

In Bruce's own words: "Old Potrero new packaging and bottle embody the boldness of a city that's resilient, creative and richly historic. Our Straight Rye Whiskey is now aged a minimum of six years to ensure exquisite quality and taste.

OLD POTRERO SINGLE BARREL RESERVE

Aged in extra fine grain American Oak. The wood was air-dried for 24 months and the barrels were fully toasted and then charred by hand over an oak fire. The mash of 100% malted rye was fermented for four days and then double distilled in traditional copper pot whiskey stills.

About the Brand

The Store begins in 1822 in remote and isolated Livet valley that made it ideal for illicit distillation. This is where our founder George Smith learned his craft. Hidden away from the Customs Officers and soldiers amongst the hills and abundant springs, George had time to distill slowly making a whisky that would soon become world renowned. In August 1822, King George IV arrived in Scotland for a state visit and asked to try a drop of the infamous Glenlivet whisky. An illegal dram it was, but even that didn’t stop the King.

By the late ‘30’s, The Glenlivet distillery was producing more than 200 gallons a week. This expansion meant our founder would soon need more employees. A few years later, Andrew Ushers & Sons of Edinburgh joined as sales agents, helping spread the word of the whisky.

To this day we continue George Smith's vision to break traditions, set new standards and move things forward; selecting exceptional unique casks, finishes and liquids and delivering unique serves and cocktails to open up the world of single malt to all.

Our Glenlivet 12 Year has been called a lot of things in its time: smooth, fruity, complex, sophisticated, entertaining, classic. The Original Malt Whisky Almanac says: “A first-class malt. One of the most popular malts in the world – deservedly so.” Representing The Glenlivet’s signature style, this classic malt is first matured in traditional oak, before spending time in American oak casks which impart notes of vanilla and gives the whisky it’s distinctive smoothness. The mineral-rich water that comes from Josie’s Well helps form the flavors during mashing and fermentation, whilst the specific height and width of the copper stills add a delicate yet complex character. Keep a bottle on hand for every occasion.

LITTLE BOOK TO THE FINISH

FREDDIE'S NOTE

Little Book Chapter 6, “To The Finish,” is the sixth chapter in the Little Book Whiskey series. “To The Finish” offers a chance for any curious whiskey drinker to expand their palate - both seasoned connoisseurs and newcomers alike. The name of this year’s chapter offers fans of American whiskey an opportunity to experience liquid that I personally had a hand in creating and showcases the innovation of Little Book chapters over the last six years.

Little Book Chapter 6 is a blend of five different liquid streams using different wood staves and barrel techniques that impart a unique liquid profile due to the secondary aging. This chapter continues to push the boundaries of blending and challenges what some might assume of lower aged whiskies. The way these liquid streams complement each other makes this liquid extremely approachable, even for those who haven’t given cask strength whiskey a try.

The inspiration for Chapter 6 came from combining two of my passions – cooking and whiskey. The way they complement each other and come together is what sparked my curiosity for “To The Finish”. Using the smoke and flavor of hardwoods, I am able to bring together timeless tools from the culinary trade into pioneering my work with American Whiskey. The result is a taste that’s bigger than its individual parts. A flavor made from generations of curing, grilling and distilling.

For the Noe family, the kitchen has always been a home away from the distillery and a way to share family traditions between generations. My granddaddy spent hours in the smokehouse practicing his craft and curing meats. My dad’s passion was reinvigorated once I was old enough to tag along. Dad enjoyed teaching me about this family tradition and working to perfect granddaddy’s sausage recipe – he always thought it needed a bit more sage. My personal passion is around family and cooking, looking into the details of what works and what doesn’t. These traditions around family meals, shared traditions, and my pursuits at the grill inspire my own work in the rackhouse and they’ve been poured into Little Book Chapter 6.

Freddie Noe, 8th Generation Master Distiller, Fred B. Noe Distillery
