Lalocura's clay pot distilled mezcales have built a steady cult following of chefs, writers, and mezcal-heads, who turn up at the palenque each day hoping to spend a few hours listening to maestro mezcalero Eduardo "Lalo" Ángeles tell stories, taste  the 20+ expressions he has resting in glass at any given time, and instagram a photo of his colorful dining room table covered in empty veladoras.

Before starting Lalocura in 2014, Eduardo Ángeles spent years working as the fourth generation master distiller of his family’s brand, where he combined a lifetime of working under his father, the late, great Don Lorenzo with a degree in agricultural engineering, and a philosophy that is all his own.

Lalocura is produced in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca, where the agave piñas are roasted in an earthen oven, mashed by hand, fermented outdoors, and distilled in clay pots. It's a process that has produced great mezcal for centuries.

TASTING NOTES: Deep amber color.  Lovely strong pear and baked apple on the nose. Delicate notes of salted butter caramel and cider spices with a hint of salinity. Slightly peppery and minty on the finish. Incredibly round and well-bodied leading to a long extended finish. Serve in a small brandy glass.

This Calvados XO (also known as Vieille Réserve 8 years) follows the strict Calvados AOC Pays d'Auge guidelines that require double-distillations in a traditional copper pot still called an "alembic á repassé."

The fermented cidre that is used for making Calvados (called calvados cidre) is fermented for 12 months in hundred-year-old oak barrels before being distilled. After distillation, the resulting spirits are put in oak barrels once again and aged for a minimum of eight years. 

On the steep precarious hillsides of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango varieties of agave, indigenous to the region, grow wild and are heavily sought after by the local mezcaleros. These varietals produce flavors that are exotically intense, with rich earth tones and savory smokiness. From the heart of the maguey these flavors are traditionally extracted to produce mezcal that is wildly refined. Because we at bozal believe that something wild produces a far richer spirit.

Agave

A subspecies of the Karwinskii Family of agave, the Tobasiche is a wild agave that needs twelve to thirteen years to fully mature. This agave is typically characterized by its herbaceous and cedar-like aromatics with an earthy finish.

Taste

With an unconventional sweet nose this mezcal exerts traces of quince, anise, and strong minerality. This bouquet is complimented by rich herbaceous botanicals on the finish.

Cihuatán Sahumerio is a limited edition rum created as a celebration of love. According to Mayan lore, fire was the symbol of love and the eagle goddess Chantico was its guardian. Thus, every loving home would keep a "Sahumerio", a sacred vessel for fire. These Sahumerios would burn day and night in honor of love.

The Maya were a tight-knit community and deeply valued love and relationships. To attract love, they would perform a simple and enchanting ritual: in a Sahumerio, they would burn treats to gain the goddess Chantico’s graces.

Each treat had a meaning: dried flowers or floral honey for romance, dried fruits for family unity, incense for friendship, cacao, seeds and butters for self protection.

This special liquid is separated from the rest of the reserves for its uniqueness, and to be shared with rum enthusiasts. Distilled in vintage copper pot stills in the year indicated on the label, the rum is then aged in bourbon and single malt whisky casks for twelve years.

After the aging process, the Maestros Roneros carefully blend the rum in order to obtain the structure, body, personality, flavors and aromas that they are looking for. Finally, the rum spends a year in Spanish sherry casks to provide the perfect finish.

A ginger beer, a hint of lime, and aromatic bitters flavor makes for the start of a perfect mule. The addition of award-winning Bourbon adds a depth of flavor to turn the classic on its head. Spicy, bold, and ready-to-enjoy.

A TRUE CLASSIC LIQUEUR

Classic cocktails demand classic liqueurs and no liqueur is more classical than the Pierre Ferrand Dry Orange Curaçao. Crafted in consultation with cocktail historian David Wondrich and based on a 19th century recipe, it is a traditional French “triple sec” – thee separate distillations of spices and the “sec” or bitter, peels of Curacao oranges blended with brandy and Ferrand Cognac.
