Aultmore distillery was founded in 1897 by Alexander Edward, one of Scotland’s best-known distillers, during the peak of the late-Victorian whisky boom. Supplied to the big blending houses of the day, AULTMORE single malt's popularity with them gave rise to the distillery's success, having drawn great admiration for the smoothness of its spirit. In fact, its qualities are so fine and well-balanced that it was soon one of just a few single malts rated ‘Top Class’ by industry experts. Aultmore 12 Years is part of Dewar's Last Great Malts collection and originates from a distillery in the central Speyside region of Scotland that has been producing whisky for over a century. This particular release, introduced in 1896 by Alexander Edward, who also owned Benrinnes and later acquired Oban, marks a notable addition to the lineup. Traditionally, Aultmore has mainly contributed single malt whisky for blends and hasn't had many regular official bottlings. Therefore, Dewar's decision to release a new age-stated range from Aultmore is intriguing, and its positioning in the single malt market will be an exciting development to observe over the coming years.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Notes of malt, banana, dried fruit, vanilla, a touch of tartness, and waxy citrus peel. A buttery undertone adds depth to the overall aroma.

PALATE: Grassy hay, malt, dried fruit, subtle hints of chocolate and banana bread, tartness, with underlying notes of citric acid and honey.

FINISH: A medium finish with flavors of banana bread, slight sweetness, and a touch of hay.

This marks the 162th bottling of Fortaleza Blanco Tequila, representing a significant milestone. For the first time, they employed a novel approach by fermenting the mosto with bagazo, the cooked and crushed agave fibers, within open-topped wooden vats. The distillation process mirrors that of a prior special batch, Lot 100, and the final product boasts an 80-proof strength.

Produced and bottled exclusively on a family estate located in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico, this tequila stands out with its distinct and flavorful profile, characterized by subtle notes of vanilla and butter. Its aroma is redolent with citrus nuances and the rich scent of cooked agave.

The older of the two rums from Barrilito, the extra time spent aging is evident in this heavier rum with a slightly smoky flavor that doesn't overpower the rum flavor. Bottled at 43% alcohol by volume.

Nose: The nosing finds mature smells of molasses, honey, milk chocolate and nougat.

Palate: The palate entry is a touch smoky and very sweet; the honey and molasses tastes come to the fore at the midpalate.

In the 1830’s our Woodford County distillery was the setting for a series of discoveries and innovative practices that today define the bourbon industry.
