After witnessing copious nights in the warehouse with glasses that refused to be set down, it became apparent that the Blenders Cut needs to be shared! Aged 5 years, we offer this to you at a whopping 115 proof, from the cask. Enjoy straight from the bottle or add a little water to bring out some more flavors.

2021: GOLD, 92 points 2021 Sunset International Spirits Competition

In the modern whiskey climate where consumers are more savvy than ever, and more demanding than ever that producers meet at least a minimum transparency requirement, Black Saddle stands out as a black hole completely void of pretty much any information other than the fact that it is Kentucky straight bourbon and at least 12 years old.  The only hint the bottle gives is in small print on the back label, stating that it was “bottled by Frank-Lin Distillers Products in Farfield, CA”.  A further search for Frank-Lin Distillers Products reveals that they are a California-based bottler of a variety of spirits and wines. In Scotland, you would commonly refer to such a company as an independent bottler.  In the bourbon industry we call it a non-distilling producer, or NDP.

So in a nutshell, Black saddle is a 12 year old bourbon distilled somewhere in Kentucky, aged somewhere, containing a mash bill of at least 51% corn and who knows what other grains, and bottled by a relatively obscure company in California.  Alrighty then!  The only other information you can easily find on Black Saddle is that it won a couple of awards at the San Francisco Spirits Competition in 2014.  

Tasting Notes

Nose:  Little besides ethanol comes out of the glass before this bourbon has had a good rest.  After some air time, aromas of buttered popcorn, vanilla, and a bit of nougat emerge.

Palate:  Simple and lacking much heft or depth.  The arrival is buttery and the development is filled with vanilla, before a bit of pepper shows up on the back end.  Nothing is offensive or off putting, but it’s devoid of any real complexity.

Finish:  Slightly warming.  Spicier than the nose or palate with some light pepper, vanilla, and a touch of citrus to round things out.  Medium length.

Kings County Distillery is a highly acclaimed craft distillery in New York City, known for producing award-winning whiskeys such as Bourbon, Peated Bourbon, and Empire Rye. They use only their own whiskey and never sell whiskey from other sources, with all production done onsite in Brooklyn. Their whiskeys have received recognition from various organizations and publications and are made using a blend of distilling practices from different cultures. Starting as the smallest commercial distillery in the US, Kings County is now located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and named the American Distilling Institute's Distillery of the Year in 2016.

Before “white whiskey,” there was moonshine, otherwise known as whiskey before it is aged in a barrel—though the word can also mean any illegally-made spirit. Ours is a corn whiskey made from 80% New York State organic corn and 20% malted barley. It is double distilled and reduced to a smooth, drinkable 80 proof. Bright with a sweet slap of corn, this is our take on a classic American whiskey. We began making whiskey on the premise that unaged whiskey, like other unaged, full-flavored spirits from around the world like silver tequila, white rum, or grappa, can be delicious even before it hits the barrel. Nose: On the nose, the fresh scent of cinnamon, rose petals, and apricot rest on rich maple and oak.

Finish: The experience is concluded by a long and soft toasted oak finish.

As great whiskey makers throughout the world from Kentucky to Scotland have long known, it takes sweet water from tough rock to make great whiskey. And, that's what Widow Jane is all about. Our whiskeys are proofed with pure limestone mineral water from the Legendary Rosendale Mines of NY, just 100 miles north of our home in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

The Vaults is a limited release of our rarest & oldest bourbons. The whiskey was finished in casks from the Adirondacks in New York, where we found forty two months air seasoned white oak, fire bent and thoughtfully toasted, charred and raised into barrels, resulting in truly New York finish.

In 1876, John D. Willett one of Kentucky's original bourbon aristocrats transferred his interest in the Willett & Frenke Distillery to his sons-in-law, Benjamin Mattingly, and Thomas Moore. Mattingly and Moore continued to operate the Willett & Frenke Distillery together until 1881 when Mattingly finally sold his stake in the company to a group of investors. Within a few years, Thomas Moore acquired complete control over the distillery and eponymously renamed it. Moore would continue to operate the distillery for another five decades until he was ultimately forced to close his doors at the onset of Prohibition. Today, the Barton 1792 Distillery operates on the same site as the historic Tom Moore Distillery and continues to use the same methods that Moore used over a century ago when distilling his own bourbon. 1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is made from a mash of corn, rye, and malted barley. While the use of corn in the bourbon's recipe adds classic notes of buttered bread, biscuits and roasted nuts, the heavy use of rye in the bourbon's mashbill yields a more complex and full-bodied whiskey. After the grains are harvested, they are mashed and fermented before being distilled through a copper-pot still. In 1897, the Bottled-in-Bond Act revolutionized the quality of American whiskey. Carrying on that tradition, this well-aged bourbon from barrels all filled during the same season was bottled at exactly 100 proof for a bold taste and lingering finish - a testament to the Bottled-in-Bond Act established over a century ago.

WHEN YOUR WHISKEY COMES FROM A CASTLE, YOU KNOW IT’S FIT FOR A KING.

In 1966, Mark Edwin Andrews purchased Knappogue Castle, a 15th century castle in Ireland, which was then in ruins. He and his wife, a prominent architect, then embarked on an ambitious program of restoration, in an effort to return the structure to its original state of glory and grandeur. It was around this time that Andrews began buying casks of fine pot still whiskey from top distilleries in the country. The casks were further aged and bottled under what is now the Knappogue Castle label. His last bottling, a 1951 vintage aged 36 years, is revered by connoisseurs as the oldest and rarest commercially available Irish whiskey on the market. Many years later, his son, Mark Andrews III, would bring Knappogue 1951 and his father’s legacy to the United States and other international markets.

Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey is produced by Sazerac Company in Louisville, Kentucky. This whiskey has natural flavors and caramel color with notes of peanut butter, vanilla, and caramel corn with whiskey undertones. Additional time in the glass delivers out butterscotch notes. An initial thick viscose mouthfeel is rampant with flavors of simple syrup, citrus, and sweet vanilla frosting, followed by caramel, popcorn, and massive peanut butter notes. This bold flavor effervesces into notes of vanilla and toffee. The finish is lingering, warm and somewhat dry with a subtle bite evolving into notes of vanilla, peanut butter, caramel, butterscotch, coffee, subtle oak and whiskey flavors. 

Crafted in 1992 by Booker Noe as part of the Small Batch collection, Basil Hayden introduced a more subtle side of bourbon compared to its counterparts.

This style of bourbon was inspired by 1792 whiskey pioneer Meredith Basil Hayden, Sr., a rye farmer from Maryland who moved to Kentucky and began distilling. He chose to distill his bourbon with a higher percentage of rye, and Booker set out to create a similar high-rye mash bill that would offer the same refined, approachable taste profile.

Today, this bourbon stands as a tribute to Meredith Basil Hayden, Sr.’s high-rye mash bill ingenuity, as well as to Booker Noe, a true innovator who sought to welcome new drinkers into whiskey.

Tasting Notes

AROMA: Charred oak and sweet notes of vanilla & caramel with hints of dried fruit

TASTE: Charred oak flavor that is complemented with sweet brown sugar, a touch of black pepper, and dried fruit to round it out

FINISH: A pleasant, lingering charred oak finish with a touch of dried fruit

COLOR: Golden brown

Enjoy the following Cocktail Recipe: 

* 4 oz (120 ml) boiling water
* 2 oz (60 ml) Basil Hayden's Bourbon
* 2 dashes of walnut bitters
* 1 tbsp (14 g) butter
* Cinnamon stick, for garnish
* 1 lemon

Bring the water to a boil. Add your whiskey straight into a coffee or tea glass. Add the water, bitters, and butter, and then stir with a cinnamon stick until the butter is dissolved. Then, to make a string of lemon for garnish, use a lemon zester or sharp paring knife to gently go around the top of the lemon to create a spiral. Clean up the excess with the paring knife.  Garnish the drink with a string of lemon and a cinnamon stick. Great for colds!

Heaven Hill distillery was founded in 1935, immediately after Prohibition ended in the United States in 1933, after a group of investors decided to be ready for the rebounding market. The investors including the famous Joseph L. Beam. Heaven Hill is located on a massive estate boasting 22 multi-story rick-houses across hundreds of acres of land. Now known as the Heaven Hill Bernheim Distillery they have the second-largest inventory of Bourbon Whiskey in the world. It is also the only remaining family-owned distillery in Kentucky. After retiring their hallmark 6-year-old bourbon, on June 24, 2019 Heaven Hill launched this 7-year-old Bottled-in-Bond flagship bourbon. This whiskey scored 92 points and ranked #4 on Whisky Advocate's Top 20 Whiskies of 2019 which stated This whiskey more than proves its merit. It's explosive, bold, and buttery, with warm flavors of honey-roasted peanuts, caramel, chocolate, corn muffins, licorice, and cinnamon, all accented by notes of savory herbs, cloves, white pepper, tobacco, and an earthy undertone. Well-integrated big oak, sweetness, and spice combine to create grace, power, and length. This is pure bourbon bliss, at a very approachable price (David Fleming, Whisky Advocate).
