Sixth Annual Cidercraft Awards 2023 - Double Gold

Produced in the Cotentin Peninsula of Normandy France using artisanal techniques perfected by woman cider-maker Marie-Agnes Herout of Maison Hérout, this authentic Normandy cider offers fresh, crisp, and round notes. It's dry - but not too dry. Organic, with the second fermentation occurring in the bottle.  Packaged with love.

It's like biting into a cold, crispy apple followed by hints of orange citrus, forest floor, bitter coffee bean. Slight lavender and apricot on the finish. Full bodied with layered complexity that dances across your palate.

TASTING NOTES: Bright deep rose color. Sweet, savory aromas and flavors of dried cranberry, red current, rhubarb, figs, sweet heirloom tomato, pimento, and applesauce with a round, vibrant, fizzy, sweet medium body. A concentrated rosé cider packed with flavorful sweetness.

La Chouette—which means “the Owl” in French—refers to the surprising bond between this elusive night bird and French cider. Traditionally, many farmers in northwest of France made their own cider with apples from their orchards. Often, the farmers made their cider in barns, where the owls could be seen watching over the production from their perches under the roof. Thus La Chouette has always looked after French cider and continues to look over our cider today.

Located near the stunning Mont Saint-Michel World Heritage site, La Chouette is produced in the cradle of France’s cider-making region. Cider-making has been a part of Pierre-Henri Agnes’ family tradition for three generations. Like Norman farmers of their time, both of Pierre-Henri’s grandfathers crafted traditional farmhouse cider (“cidre bouché”) with cider apples from their orchards or by buying cider apples and using the services of a mobile cider press and mobile Calvados still (a very popular approach in the 1940s to 1970s). When Pierre-Henri and his friend Alex decided to launch their cider company, Pierre-Henri remembered the story of an owl that would fly over his grandfather’s farm and dwell under the roof in the main building where his grandfather would store the fermenting apple juice. 

Process

La Chouette is insistent on finding the perfect balance between sweetness and tartness by combining both sweet and bittersweet apples, in the purist tradition of French cider-making. La Chouette only uses dedicated cider apples (never table or eating apples), always uses 100% pure apple juice (not reconstituted apple juice), and has no added sugar, water, coloring, or flavoring. Using these traditional, authentic, French cider-making methods gives La Chouette a pristine apple taste.

Then, within the crystal clear liquid of a gin distilled with Christmas spices, laying warm on your tongue and the crispness of orange and ginger playing against a hint of chocolate, blackberries, nutmeg, black current and warm/oozing/golden maple syrup to mention a few ingredients in this exceptional gin… plus imagine shaking this liquid to create a cascade of silver snow trickle downwards, spectacular!

Flavor Profile

A hint of eucalyptus and coco on the nose going into a front forward of butterscotch, caramel, and a touch of aniseed on the back end with a linger of citrus and coco aftertaste. The finish rounds out nicely with a mixture of butterscotch and aniseed. 

The Whistler 5 Year Old Bodega Cask Single Malt is a triple distilled whiskey that has been wholly matured in the finest Spanish Sherry Butts for its whole life. These butts were sourced from our partners in the famed Bodegas of Jerez de la Frontera.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Stewed dark fruits, leather, chocolate and tobacco on the fore with citrus peel and caramel undertones.

PALATE: Oily mouthfeel with leather, spices, dried figs and sultanas, coupled with bitter chocolate and dry citrus peel.

FINISH: A long, lingering, dry mouthfeel with dried fruits and maltiness remaining.

This 15 years straight bourbon features rye spice, hints of cherry, vanilla, and oak.

The Bond and Lillard brand has a long and storied history dating back to 1820, when brothers John and David Bond founded their distillery in what is now the city of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The distillery quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality bourbon, and in 1869, the Bond family sold the business to Colonel C. C. Lillard, a prominent local businessman.

Today, Bond and Lillard Batch 2 Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon pays homage to the brand's heritage with a blend of carefully selected barrels of whiskey, each aged for at least 10 years. The whiskey is made from a mash bill of corn, rye, and malted barley, which gives it a complex and well-rounded flavor profile.

Chicken Cock Whiskey's newest limited release Chanticleer is fine Kentucky Straight Bourbon finished in premium French Cognac Barrels. Limited to only 32 barrels, Chanticleer celebrates the long time French-American friendship dating back to the 1700s and to Paris, Kentucky where Chicken Cock was founded in 1856. With vibrant notes of ripened peaches and delicate sweet cream the flavor bursts of vanilla and cherry with compliments of softened plums and candied dates. This is the second edition in a collectible series of limited holiday releases.

Our fruit producers, located in the Hautes Côtes de Bourgogne area, less than 20kms from Nuits-SaintGeorges, have been the same for many generations ensuring particular attention to the fruit. Delicate Lloyd George and Rose de Plombières raspberry varieties add vibrant flavor to this unique and beautiful spirit and wonderfully highlight the lush fruit of the region.

Stainless steel vats are filled 2/3 of the way full with fruit then topped off with alcohol and macerated for four to five weeks. After filtration, crystallized sugar is slowly mixed into this infusion which naturally lowers the alcohol content and further develops the flavors of the fruit.

To the eye: cherry-red

On the nose: lush and intense fruit immediately which dissipates into sweet floral aromatics

In the mouth: bright intense fruit and round full mouthfeel. Long pleasant finish that is dryer than expected.
