The Hazelburn single malt whisky pays homage to a former Campbeltown distillery, once the largest in the area, which operated from the early 18th century until 1925.

Springbank distillery, licensed since 1828, embarked on triple-distilled spirit production in 1997. In 2005, the inaugural bottling of Hazelburn whisky, an 8-year-old expression, marked the brand's inception. This first edition featured three labels, each showcasing a different aspect of Springbank: its maltings, stills, and casks.

Expanding their core range, Hazelburn introduced the 12-year-old and 10-year-old expressions in 2009 and 2014 respectively, further exemplifying Springbank's dedication to exceptional whisky.

Among their esteemed selection, the remarkable Hazelburn Triple Distilled 21 Year Old Scotch Whisky stands out. With a bold and punchy nose, it introduces notes of caramel, treacle, and sticky toffee pudding. The nose also reveals creamy chocolate liqueur and hints of ginger, adding to its allure.

First of its kind, El Carbonzado is a testament to  legendary taste, superior smoothness, and handmade traditional craft. Using 100% premium Blue Weber Agave, we age our blanco tequila in new French oak barrels, enriching this tequila with notes of vanilla, caramel, toffee and oak, while clarifying this juice to a succulent smooth finish.

We then do the unthinkable and double barrel rest this liquid gold in premium medium char american oak casks previously used to house one of the worlds highest rated Irish Whiskies.

The results from this whisky barrel adds a beautiful bounty of sweet cream, herb and spice, while enhancing a subtle smoky and savory oak. The taste is smooth, yet unbelievably unique pleasing both tequila and whisky drinkers alike. 

Taste Profile

With its rich dark brown color, El Carbonzado has taken the tequila world to the cognac/Armagnac status of the spirits spectrum. Palate entry has a deep smoky taste, mid-palate brings out intense caramel – vanilla flavors, with a smooth silky finish.

Campbeltown, the whisky capital of the world
Campbeltown has three fully operational single malt distilleries all located in the town itself, this makes it one of Scotland’s recognized whisky-producing regions. The town is situated on the Kintyre peninsula, near the famous Mull of Kintyre, some 240 km from Glasgow. It is a historic Royal Burgh and has been occupied for over 8000 years. Once home to a big fishing fleet, there were also no less than 34 legal distilleries established here during the 19th century, earning the town the nickname “The Whisky Capital of the World”. By 1925, with the closing of the Reichlachan and Glengyle Distillery, Springbank and Glen Scotia were the only distilleries left.  The opening of Mitchells Glengyle Distillery on 25th March 2004 increased the number of distilleries in Campbeltown to three, allowing the town to legitimately reclaim its place amongst the great whisky producing regions.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Opens up to reveal citrus notes, vanilla cheesecake, rhubarb and custard sweets with delicate peat smoke.

Palate: Freshly baked Bramley apple pie and sweet salted caramel. The peat is prolific yet well integrated. A fresh coastal influence evokes memories of a blustery, busy, sea sprayed harbour.

Finish: Long and creamy. Notes of toasted oak and pencil shavings give way to a lasting sweet, fruity peat smoke.

100th Anniversary Limited Edition. The Hakushu 18 Peated Malt is made up of carefully selected malt whiskies all aged for a minimum of 18 years in various casks, created in honor of Suntory Whisky's centenary. The Hakushu Distillery blenders work with peat, while softening the palate using the exceptional mountain water of the area, filtered through ancient granite rocks. Refined and elegant, this centennial Hakushu Peated Malt brings smoke that is less strong, never dominant and in typical Japanese style, more complex and gentle. The result is a spicy, peppery welcome, a slow wave of  smoke that deepens as it reveals its herbaceous notes and green fruity undertones.

This is the man who shaped us, built us, into what we are today. Ian Hunter resides in the soul of our whisky, and in the Laphroaig Ian Hunter Book 4: Malt Master, we honour his memory with a whisky every bit as rare and distinctive as he. A tribute to Hunter’s love for being boldly different, this is a whisky with real character born of the signature Laphroaig peat.

IAN HUNTER IS THE MAN WHO MADE LAPHROAIG WHAT IT IS TODAY.

He was an uncommon soul, with his own distinct manners and moods, not too unlike the whisky he gave to the world. We honour his memory with this series of rare and collectable aged whiskies in his name. Book 4, the latest in our limited series, celebrates Ian Hunter’s establishing of our malting floors and his legacy as the Malt Master of Laphroaig. 

Ian secured the distillery’s lease in 1922, broke into America in the time of Prohibition, was the catalyst for a revolution in the use of American White Oak and is the reason why we are still among a handful of distilleries to maintain our own malting floors today. He put his heart and soul into ensuring Laphroaig was a whisky like no other. 

In Ian Hunter Book 4 we pay tribute to Ian Hunter’s dedication to Laphroaig with a whisky every bit as rare and distinctive as he is. This 34-year-old single malt was carefully crafted from our own floor-malted barley and aged in the American White Oak casks Hunter was first to procure. Perhaps not for everyone, but for the discerning few, this will be a taste like no other. We invite you to enjoy.
