SCHLEPZIG: WHERE WHISKEY DREAMS TOOK FLIGHT

Road trips often hold the promise of adventure, and in the waning months of 2015, our journey led us to a most unexpected destination - the quaint main street of Schlepzig, situated approximately 60 kilometers south of Berlin. Our initial aim was simple: to acquire a solitary barrel of whisky from Brandenburg's most ancient distillery.

As we found ourselves standing in the charming courtyard of this distillery, listening intently to the owner's words, the contours of our lives were about to change forever. His announcement that he sought a successor ignited a spark within each of us. This, we realized, was the adventure we had been yearning for all along. And so, in 2017, following a multitude of structural transformations, the installation of mash tuns, fermenters, and even our very own mill, we set ablaze Germany's inaugural rye whisky still, and thus, the STORK HOUSE Rye Whiskey was born.

Indulge in a distinctly Texan bourbon, created exclusively from locally sourced ingredients. Crafted from corn, wheat, and barley harvested by a 4th generation Texan farmer, it undergoes fermentation with a unique yeast strain cultivated from a Texas pecan. Toffee and creamy vanilla are balanced with the earthy smoke, with bright notes of pear, gooseberry fool and green apple simultaneously adding brightness and depth. Appearance: Long Ball is a 6 year old bourbon, aged in charred American Oak casks. Amber waves of grain. Long Ball extracted the best char these barrels had to offer, and the result is a deep, rich mahogany that gives it a strong 10+ year appearance.

Palate: First sip is a creamy honey texture. Vanilla undertones carry throughout and linger in the finish. Medium body with a silky viscous mouth feel.

Nose: On the nose, toasted caramel, butterscotch candies, and soft oak nuances. Delicate and floral, this does not smell like 100 proof.

Finish: Vanilla undertones linger through the finish. The higher proof really helps this thing carry.

We selected barrel of the sweet, delicate 51% rye/ 45% corn/ 4% barley traditional straight rye and blended it with barrels of the big and bold 51% rye/ 49% malted barley straight rye. The end result is an upfront flavor profile that is beautifully sweet and rich with a luxurious mouthfeel. The finish has just enough cinnamon and rye spice to get your tongue tingling while the flavors from the malted barley, such as smoke and malt are still present, but softer and more subtle.

American Oak is the first blend in the Oak Series, an innovative double oak technique where Dixon introduces additional charred oak to barrels with a moderate amount of rye in the mashbill. Dixon will match the profile of each batch for consistent taste and character, providing an everyday offering. American Oak moves from sweet, rich butterscotch on the front, to savory roasted nutty notes in the middle, finishing with a lingering mild spice. It is very approachable and perfect for cocktails.

About the Brand
